Maximum Dinobots #1 Review (SPOILERS)

Post by Yaya » Wed Dec 10, 2008 10:47 pm

Nice introductory issue that pretty much sets the stage.

Good to see some familiar faces back in play, and nice to have the Machination/Skywatch storyline continued.

Art was good. Not quite up to the lofty standards that Nick and Josh have set in the past, but still strong work.

Atrocious dialogue at the beginning was painful, with the ridiculous tossing of Furmanesque Earthen cliches and quips by the Dynobots, which apparently all talk and act the same. Surprise, surprise.

Thereafter though, I was into the story. Kind of a quick read though. Of course, introductory issues often are, so it's understandable.

A "B". Looking forward to the next issue. Glad Simon is back playing in his sandbox.
"But the Costa story featuring Starscream? Fantastic! This guy is "The One", I just know it, just from these few pages. "--Yaya, who is never wrong.

I think the dialogue at the beginning is miles ahead of anything AHM has thrown up so far.

It is exactly how the cons should have spoekn in AHM 1.

Its reminded me of ott Tartino Pulp dialogue, its typical "were too cool for this **** and we know it" stuff, we're just going to out smack talk each other, even though we're a bit **** at it - which is charactisation in itself.

For reference, let me type what I think actaualy is atrocious dialogue.

"THE CREATURES BUILDING MATERIALS ARE STRANGE, EVERYTHING SEEMS WEAK... SOFT"

That isn't actually a spaz talking, that's a members of a crack Con unit...

"FLYBOYS ARE HERE"

See comment above

"LOOK AT THEM RUN! OUR VERY PRESENCE FILLS THEM WITH TERROR!"

"YOU WANNA SEE TERROR, WAIT TILL MEGATRON GETS HERE"

"MEGATRON? FEAR! *BANG* TERROR! *BANG* I AM THE MASTER OF THESE THINGS, NOT -"

How long do we have to wait before we have SS saying "ME STARSCREAM WANT TO DO GAY ROBOT SEX!"?

That particular little salvo from Starscream... Brilliant stuff there shane, take a carefully crafted, proven to be very useful, interesting, machiavellian patriot and turn him into a gurning, whiney, camp **** with such an inferioirity complex he's showing off to a pair of *****, who only two minutes earlier were displaying very negatiev thoughts towards M and plenty willing to talk **** about him and were willing to help actually eliminate him. in two panels.

Now... I've seen people actually say the dialogue in AHM is GOOD!?!?!?!?!

To quote Clarke W. Griswold, I think you're all ****** in the head!

By the way, that there is actaully THREE ******* PAGES OF DIALOGUE. THREE F-U-C-K-I-N-G PAGES WORTH. TYPED OUT IN TWO MINUTES!

OF A ******* REBOOT!

VALUE FOR MONEY THERE FOLKS, WHY DON'T I WRITE THE NEW COMIC, I'M JUST AS BIG A **** AS MCCARTHY.

But why am I talking about that steaming pile of **** AHM in this thread?

This is because... Because AHM is so ****, people have stopped giving a [composite word including 'f*ck'] about the tf comic. I cannot find a shop near me that stocks it. That's why.

*****.

My LCS didn't get this in! They've been so bad about stocking the TFs lately.

Incidently, does anyone else agree that the bot on the ad for the new movie prequel comic at the end of the issue would have made a hell of a lot better Megatron for the movie than the porcupine crab bot they ended up going with?

I had to special order all TF books from my LCS because he didn't stock them at all. I have finally given up on the single issues and will be buying only trades. My LCS would almost always forget to order a book and then I would have to get it off of ebay and pay WAY too much for it.

The first of a five course meal has got my taste buds tingling with excitement! :joy:

I mean, having Furman back on writing duties is a breath of fresh air compared to getting gangraped by your close relatives with McCarthy releasing the video onto the internet and charging people for it.

Josh's colours are much more vibrant here than on [AHM - ed] and geel with Nick's pencils, I know this sounds childish but considering the circumstances, I hope Furman ignores McCarthy and continues on his merry way.

I think it's as good a start to the series as we could hope for, even down to it being Roche drawing Su's designs. Su is a superb artist, but Roche's style better suits the breakneck pace this series needs to go at. Bit of a dream team then, imo.

AHM has dialogue?

...I may have to go round and see if my Max Dinos preorder has arrived after my lab work this evening.

I got this now, it's pretty good isn't it.

Sets the scene nicely, hopefully it all kicks off next ish - judging frmo the cover teaser at the back, it looks like it's going down Dinobot hunt style, which suits me just fine, cause that story is a classic.

I like the skywatch guy, he's probably my fave hume in IDW so far and he's barely been in it.

Bit too heavy on the recap for my tastes. Lots of nice tidbits such as establishing the bulk of Dante's exo-skeleton, pre-TF toy refs, with generous helpings of Roche character... but no surprises. Eager for something to sink my teeth into at the moment.

Love to see that the Headmaster exo-skeleton's legs in Dante's case, are separate units -seeing as how larger Scorpy is then Sunstreaker.

Loved the white Streakers, hommages to Diaclone... :)

I'm still intrigued how the whole HM process works... what happens with the original head...

Too bad that due to AHM, we know Hot Rod will make it alive from the confrontation next issue, and the Machination will fall... :(

i'm worried i am starting to get that Starwars feeling about TF comics as a whole. I don't mind this bit as such but whole seems tainted and in the hands o' people who don't get TFs potential or what makes a half decent comic.

As such i quite liked this but it has a faint air of pissing in the wind.

Hey, you never know, the Machination might win, Hot Rod and the dinos barely escape off Earth with their lives, and then we all get surprised in the final issue of AHM with the Humans utterly defeated, as Scorponok faces off against Megs.....

.....aaaahhhhh, who am I kidding? That'd be way beyond the infantile capabilities of little Shaney boy.

Waiting to see Grimmers show up in AHM now, with dialogue consistent with a mental age of four.
