For anybody here hoping Drift would be the "traitor" better look away from the links below:

i was kind of hoping he just didn't exist.
On that cover i am assuming he is leaning against a bar, and just off camera is the girl he is threatening to stick those fingers up.
The problem with Drift is they have tried too hard to build up excitement about him - i know part of the job is to publicise the comics but its such sledge hammer OMG This will p0wn your style guff that its just off putting.
Plus the thing with TFs is the cast is so massive, and there are so many intersting techspecs out there that really pushing a new guy (esp to the extent of a spotlight) just doesn'tg resonate. If you need a badass racer with a sword...

for example.
I mean he has a lightsabre so he is already cooler than Drift and his whacky Shiar Mkran sword.

Yep, it was summed up pretty well on this blog as well:

See? I can make wild crazy assumptions too!
Honestly, why should I be pissed my original character would never make it to canon? I don't WANT him to make it to canon. He's awful, I just do him for my own amusement and no one else's. If I manage to get a job as a Transformers writer I intend to write about all those guys that never got a chance in the spotlight. Landmine, Flattop, Bugly, Twin Twist, Scoop, Banzai-Tron, Skram, Kick-Off... The Transformers world is so packed with great characters to explore, why would I want to shove in some sub-par self-insertion piece of crap beyond MAYBE a crowd shot cameo to indulge myself a little bit?
What I do hate is some crappy wapanese ricer car samurai guy. That's about as unoriginal as it gets with fancharacters, and it just makes him sound like every thirteen-year old's "totally badass" creation who kicks all the ass in the world. Maybe if Drift's look and character were a little more inspired than jamming a bunch of Anime stereotypes together with the parroting of Bruce Lee quotes ("Be like water", as Shane so put it in an interview), and he wasn't hyped as their Wolverine, I'd be a little more receptive to it.
Furman's Grindcore, on the other hand, sounded awesome. Why can't we get more on him?
"I've come to believe you are working for the enemy, Vervain. There is no other explanation... for your idiocy." (General Woundwort)
Personally, not very impressed with amount of hype. I mean, I don't see he's been overhyped.
Maybe I just haven't looked in the right places, or just didn't care to, but I really don't know much about Drift except how he looks.

The moment you see "there is this new guy and he is awesome i know you will love him" its overhyping.
There's just no subtlty to any of it.
There's also an evident lack of understanding - a new character in a continuity where we have yet to see 90% of the TF cast is not going to be a big hook IMO - i'm not saying don't have 'made up' guys (Gridcore served a purpose) if it s in the interests of the story (you can see why the original Straxus was invented for example) but expecting this to be the reason people read - ooh! new guy - especially at this stage in the IDW continuities maturity - seems an odd one to me.. Giving Starsabre a western debut or something would be far more interesting.
Looking back at the good old days of weekly UK bliss - the Wreckers just - bang - out of nowhere, seriously, a total suprise and they were cool because they were, not because we were told in advance.
Different times i know but this just seems so... crass.

I see what you're saying, but how is Grindcore not in the same category? There are a hundred other characters besides Grindcore that already exist by the same logic above, yet I remember Simon pimping his new character as the new big heavy in the solicits.Best First wrote:The moment you see "there is this new guy and he is awesome i know you will love him" its overhyping.

Worse, Grindcore doesn't even get a toy from Hasbro. Drift does.
That that logic, Drift would actually be more acceptable than Grindcore.
For me personally, the more introductions of new ancillary characters, the more intrigued I am. It's a shame Grindcore became just another Con due to 'the crunch'.
I have fond memories of being literally scared of Straxus, as he came out of nowhere like a mad bat out of hell. The Transformers have certainly been better off for him, as well as Scrounge, Impactor, and Flame.
For me, jury still out on Drift.

But see, that's the point. Drift DOES have a toy, and whether or not you buy toys and maybe will buy a comic or two now or if you buy comics and maybe will buy a toy or two now, that's more $$$ in Hasbro's pockets. Kind of like the Marvel/Star Wars Transformer toys - cross over markets, increase sales.Yaya wrote:

So then where Impactor or Straxus were created for story reasons, this, this "DRIFT" is the untimely echo of Budiansky era product placement. The days where they were required to stick in the new Autobot cars, Pretenders, Micromasters, etc. Obviously not as severe, and only time will tell if its an anomaly or a harbinger, but an interesting comparison, nonetheless.

I mean, it would kickass to have a Straxus, Scrounge, or Impactor toy.
Not sure though why fans are excited about a Japanese race car. Quite boring, if you ask me. Maybe if he has many point of articulation, he might be cool to own.

Ha Ha - the other day - one of the rassclatts that regularly just tries to rile everyone said to him "This isn't a democracy" and JC responded to say "Funny, someone else once said that when banning me from a place and that place is pretty quiet now" (or similar) and i though "****! was that me?"

Hmm...
Facts:
- Grindcore's bobbins. But at least he's bobbins that was made up to fill out a brand new faction without wasting an existing character who could have been better used elswhere.
- Drift is bobbins. And he's bobbins that's using up space that could have been better used with one of the characters just alluded to,
- Of the comics I still buy in singles, only one isn't by IDW.
- Of the comics I buy from IDW, all of them are mediocre dishwater bilge at best.
- Of the mediocre dishwater bilge, none of it is good or offensive enough for me to have any desire to communicate directly with the creators.
- Which is good, because the forum for doing so is a shitmunching [composite word including 'f*ck'] circlejerk of epically self righteous proportions.
- So I avoid the IDW boards and keep my sanity.
- And you should too.
I am Truthbastard Jesus. And this is my gospel.

It's actually a forum called Poets On Fire. There's a great thread here where the person who told me 'this is not a democracy - you must respect me' behaves so childishly that three people publicly ask to have their accounts deleted. Take note also of the point where she switches to using a different account in order to avoid answering any more questions.Ha Ha - the other day - one of the rassclatts that regularly just tries to rile everyone said to him "This isn't a democracy" and JC responded to say "Funny, someone else once said that when banning me from a place and that place is pretty quiet now" (or similar) and i though "****! was that me?"
However, I think it's worth sticking around on the IDW board in case an opportunity comes up to instigate widespread revolt, and perhaps to frustrate their efforts to turn it into a padded playroom.
Dude, I am so grateful to you for laying into that pompous ass, Commander Shockwav.Jack Cade wrote: That's close enough to saying my name three times so voila, here I am.

What do you think, are you going to hand him his ass on a silver plate again?

It's over for you man. Over.
If they banned Dogshite and Skwedge (and Commander_Shockave, nooch) the place would be tolerable i think.

I feel like we're brothers now, sharing a deep bond that none can understand.
BF once called me "Jaja". I immediately regretted taking the name Yaya upon hearing it.
Let me mosey on over to the IDW boards and figure it out.

Ophthalmologist, not optometrist.sprunkner wrote:I wasn't banned, just tired of banning threats. Sort of like "You can't fire me--I quit!"
We are brothers. Though I should have gone with the YaShwav rivalry thing. "Look, just because you're both Muslim optometrist transfans in [location] doesn't mean you have to compete with each other!"
Ophthalmologist are M.D.'s and do eye surgery. Me, I'm primarily a cataract surgeon. Optometrist just prescribe glasses. Common misconception.
Muslim. Ophthalmologist. Transfans member. Three descriptive words you just don't expect to see on a TF website, are they?

Yeah, it's weird how many different people get together here due to our uniting factor (IE, Transformers) ... Me, I'm a zoologist but am currently working in the Pharmacological industry. From what I hear from you, I'm glad I never registered on the IDW boards. Sometimes the urge to answer to some posts was strong, but I managed to resist... I guess things are getting a little too Don Murphy-ish there lately...
