Quoted for truth. And I rarely quote for truth...And, whether in the short-lived Dreamwave company or the Marvel comics of the 80s, every time the comics have moved away from Furman they devolved.
You know, the whole AHM thing reminds me of what happened to the Thundercats comics a few years ago...
After a failed rehash of the 80 cartoon (kind of like DW's first G1 comic), they produced a brilliant comic (The return) set in a dark future, with quite a mature storyline and some very surprising twists... AFterwards came Dogs of War which followed in this genre, although the ending was very rushed - the whole thing was one issue shorter then it should have been...
So, after the succes of these two, what did the publisher do? They fired the writer and returned to the 80' cartoon storyline with one of the most insipid Thundercats stories ever (Hammerhand's revenge). Not surprisingly, the title was cancelled soon after the last issue came out...
... did I mention Furman also used to write Thundercats? And so the circle comes to a close...

Not technically true, but the general point remains. I'm more pissed about the spoilerised survival of everyone in general, especially Sunstreaker. Given that Max Dinos hasn't even started yet.In AHM, Optimus Prime lies dying on a metal table, which means that Revelation has to end with him getting the fatal wound
Would also massively debate "Everything good about Transformers comics has always come from Furman", though I'll assume you're only referring to IDW, so I'll let you slide.
Other than that, good stuffffffff sprunky.

I see your point here. Thundercats: The Return was maybe a little too mature! But they could have backed off of the rape and deviant sex and still maintained mature, deep storylines.BB Shockwave wrote:Quoted for truth. That's the cool thing about the TF's. Thundercats comic revival was basically in response to the 1980's revival or 6 or 7 years ago. TF's don't need nostalgia to maintain popularity.

Eh, it's not shown but pretty much 'openly hinted at' that Monkian kind of 'played' with the captive Cheetara. A lot...sprunkner wrote:Wait, wait... I must read this. Thundercats rape? Is this in trade?
Plus you get to see Wilykit and Wilykat all grown up in skanky outfits and on leash as Mumm-Ra's slaves....
For me the whole story felt like I was reading G2 - these are really NOT your "father's Thundercats"! There are some quite shocking cliffhangers. You should definitely get the trade, it's a good read and very nicely drawn.

Having read it, I'm actually considering tracking down The Return and the concluding Dogs Of War arc for the sheer what-the-f*ck factor... if you think The Return reads like exploitative masturbatory fan fic, Dogs Of War disappears into pure drug-influence territory...sprunkner wrote:Wait, wait... Just don't let anyone you know and currently enjoy the respect of pick it off the shelf and start reading.

Well, glad I was able to spark some interest here...
I sometimes wonder (even though THundercats is a VERY marginal thing for me beyond DCAU, Gargoyles, even X-Men) what'd be like to have Simon Furman writing Thundercats again. Will it ever happen? :cue dramatic music:
