Spotlight: Wheelie

Brilliant, especially the details that go above and beyond such as the retro cover. Sumptuous art and colours throughout, stacks of text, more big-picture stuff relating to the Autobot war effort, and some genuinely gripping character writing. Plus whilst the Quints don't need to be anything more than long-lost buried remnants in this continuity, the nod's nice.

The issue as a whole really shows the care and attention that's been given to putting it together. Solid work by Klaus/Simon/Josh, and is this the first regular issue Denton's edited?

4.5/5

Yeah, i thought this was superb - everything clicked. I was looking forward to Cyc more but i think this was actually a little more enjoyable.

Think Denton edited Cyclonus as well so he's having a good week.

Intriuging to see Reflector get wiped out - i thought they were down to appear in AHM.

One of the best Spotlights, not to be missed
Genius idea having the translator with a twist
Scherwinkski's artwork was so good it made me stare
And the writing of Wheelie made me really care

Well.. Colour me impressed.

Furman has done something I didn't think possible, he's actually made me care about a hated "stigma-character". :o

No longer does Wheelie need to hide in shame among the likes of Jar-Jar from Star Wars, Gwildor from MotU, or friggen' LooKee from She-Ra..

He's stepped out into the light, and now he's a full, proper character. You really feel quite sorry for the lad too, since the no respect policy of us fans have been mirrored in his treatment by his fellow Autobots.

I do wonder, since it would appear as if OP finally received his message in, what was it, first issue of Escalation? If he will ever get off of that savage and primitive planetoid.

I guess it all depends on if us fans wants to see more of Wheelie after this.

Well, I'm game. Bring the pygmy survivalist robot! :)

This is the best spotlight I have read in ages. I never thought anyone could actually suceed in making an interesting character out of Wheelie.

Fair play to everybody involved for taking up the challenge. I really felt for the little guy. I hope we get to see him in future stories providing all of this good stuff isn't swept aside by 'All Hail Megatron' :(

Well, this was Castaway meets Transformers, wasn't it?

It's a fun little tale, but I'm glad I read Spotlight:Cyclonus after this one and not before, or I could see myself being much too harsh in my evaluation of it.

Storywise, it's a fun read. It's a good example of what Spotlight's should strive for, that is, presenting a self-contained tale where we see the main character take a journey of sorts to become something he or she wasn't at the stories beginning. I think we get that here, along with a clever little twist at the end with Wheelie's trickery that brought a smile to my face. Good riddance, Reflector.

Art was good, but not great, IMO. Clearly, Don, E.J. and Guido are in a league of their own when it comes to drawing bots, but Klaus does an effective enough job with the pencilling here and it's good to have him as another option.

Enter the Quints. Sigh. Never been a fan of them, but who knows? If Wheelie can shine as a character, why not them?

A fun, stand-alone "B-" tale, and I find myself not being the Wheelie hater I once was.

(But if he starts that rhyming up again, count me out)
"But the Costa story featuring Starscream? Fantastic! This guy is "The One", I just know it, just from these few pages. "--Yaya, who is never wrong.
