Any ideas? Tried mailing you but the AOL address seems to be dead. Tom's not sure where he got Zeck from -- possibly an online bibliography, possibly a response to a question in a UK issue.

Heh. By early knowledge you actually mean early knowledge.
I have no info on this. I've never actually assumed it to be Springer (though its of a similar style) whilst Zeck or Golden - I'm no expert on their works. Reminds me of Budiansky or Jim Fern. You know, that kind of anonymous droopy look. Can't say I've ever liked it!
For some reason I actually thought Springer had passed away. *shrug*

Cheers. That's actually a place he got a fair bit of info from, IIRC -- but there was also a list of cover artists published in one of the issues, apparently. Plus the letter page questions, which I'll admit I haven't bothered to skim through scans of again... Tom says he'll have a look for the list when he sobers up.
Considering the rest of Zeck's work, I can see why mention of a throwaway cover for TF #3 might get omitted, intentionally or otherwise.

Hmm... I was about to say Bob Layton and/or Paul Ryan, going from memory, but a further actual look at the cover reveals that it can't possibly be either of them.
In perticular the way the metals are rendered.
Mike Zeck, eh? The same Zeck that later went on to do the best work of his, and DeMatteis, life on Spider-man: Kravens Last Hunt? If it's really him, then the artistic journey he made is almost astonishing, isn't it?
EDIT: Also, I just found a certain follow-up freaky storyline that I most DEFINITELY need to get! And in real-life paper and everything!
Spider-man: Soul of the Hunter. I believe this is the freaky story where Kraven's soul somehow makes its peace with Spider-man, and in return can pass on to eternal rest.
It was referenced in an old Swedish spidey-mag, and I never got where it was from, but now I think I know. The reference was during the Howard Mackie-run... Spidey goes crazy, Hobgoblin gets super-strength, first son of Kraven, yaddah yaddah..

Yeah, that did cross my mind. Then again its couched as a 'complete' list (i think, i was drunk last night). Hmm.Denyer wrote:

Pretty sure i have not seen any scans of what passed for the Transformations page in isue 6 anywhere i am afraid.
However as i understand it the page had a very different format at the start so maybe it didn't even have that info.

Apparently there was a list of cover artists in a later issue -- with the reason given that they'd had a lot of questions (so probably some of the artists poked them...)Best First wrote:Pretty sure i have not seen any scans of what passed for the Transformations page in isue 6 anywhere i am afraid.
Anyone remember that, or is our Marvel maître d' just going nuts?

Yeah, that happened in issue 53 but the credits therein only streched back as far as issue 40.Denyer wrote: Apparently there was a list of cover artists in a later issue -- with the reason given that they'd had a lot of questions (so probably some of the artists poked them...)
