New Avengers/Transformers #2 (spoilers)

First of all:

Stuart Moore at IDW's forum wrote:

Hey guys -- Stuart Moore here, writer of NEW AVENGERS/TRANSFORMERS and the RAMJET SPOTLIGHT. I think I can clear up some of the Decepticon-fusion...

The "new" character introduced in the miniseries is indeed Ramjet, who spins off into his own Spotlight right afterward. The "supposedly new" character seen in the preliminary, uncorrected preview pages to issue #2 was actually an art mistake! It's Thundercracker, and he's been corrected for the final book, which goes on sale tomorrow.

Hope that helps. Though I did enjoy the speculation...!
What the? How is that possible? :o

Anyway, We have (highlight to read):

Bumbelbee using his holomatter avatar to trick Luke Cage.
Jazz running over Wolverine in a bid to calm him down(!)
Doom shocking some sense ito Wolverine.
Megatron not trusting Ramjet because he only arrived half a Mega-cycle ago, before ordering him to guard the device that's making the Avengers go mental. :o
Speaking of Ramjet, he looks like his original 1985 toy.
The Decepticons getting powered up on Spider-man's blood, refined into some sort of Ore-13/Energon. Can you say "Spider-Decepticons"?
Iron Man turning up in a large mech, based on his armour, having heard rumours of giant extraterrestial robots living covertly.

Well, that was certainly bizzare, can't say its a good read as I can't take this seriously, Let's hope it's not actually part of the IDW-Furmanverse.

i thought it was appalling - Decep's powered up by Spidey's blood? what?

And the notion that Ramjet might somehow be a threat to meg's authority becausehe had 'arrived recently'. eh?

Oh, and Iron Man's dialogue at the end, dear lord.

and the art contiues to suck drama from every scene.

really bad.

But somehow not quite as bad as Megatron: Origin

I thought the Autobot/Avengers punch up was just daft. And the "Ramjet can't be trusted because he arrived half an hour ago" thing was just a whole new level of "What?"

All whats needed to top all this is for the Decepticons to start shooting off spider-webs at both the Autobots and Avengers (including Giant Iron Man).

not over the moon that this guy is apparently writing the sot light as well.

no issues with people other than SF writing TFs however so far, with the exception of Nick Roche the people and stories that have been chosen have really dissapointed me.

I don't get it tho... why couldn't they have Bendis & Furman co-write this series together?? And why not put one of Marvels big-league artists that have so far been on Avengers on it too... :(

Had they done so, then this really might have been one of Marvel/IDW's top-selling titles. Bah.

I would have liked perhaps Mark Bagley on it. Since he is super-fast, and could have jugled whatever hush-hush it is he's working on for Marble right now, with this.

Anyone agree?

all of the above sounds better than what we have.

esp the Bendis/Furman bit.

Bagley is great although prob wouldn't be my top choice for this, to be honest my ideal would probably be EJ.

From Marvel, well, Hitch but that would never happen.

Or Jummy Cheung, as that cover was quality.

Or the lad who did runaways.

Aye. That would have been super-cool a team-up between the bald-men. :)

Yeah, well EJ might not have been a bad choice, but he's busy with Devastation, right?

And the reason I didn't suggest like Finch or Cheung on it, was ( like you already figured, hrrm ) because they're also busy with secret stuff. Heck, everybody that's any good at Marvel is busy with secret stuff, even Bagley. Some of those peeps can do more than one monthly tho, but they're really few.

I wonder where they find these guys. Holmes, afaik, has no previous writing credit except for video games.

yeah, i find it a bit of a concern to be honest, using Furman was a master stroke but their other writing hires, ceratyinly Holmes, have an air of Dreamwave about them in terms of ability and ideas.

which i do not say lightly.

Yeah, it's silly as hell.

But y'know, seeing Captain America in the same panel talking to Prime just does something for me. So does seeing Wolverine pinned under Jazz. I'm actually enjoying it more than any TF crossover done yet. I think this is more for the TF fans actually than the Avengers fans. I'm sure the Avengers fans who don't follow Transformers are like "WTF?"

So thumbs up for me, but don't go looking for quality here.
"But the Costa story featuring Starscream? Fantastic! This guy is "The One", I just know it, just from these few pages. "--Yaya, who is never wrong.

Yeah, if that pathetically awful cover combined with the near universal blasting of this mini series doesn't keep me from buying the trade (which it hasn't), I suppose nothing well. *sigh*

Apparently Ramjet will have a quite unexplainable urge to overthrow Megs in the IDW-verse according his Spotlight info. Joining the club with Starscream, Shockwave, Scorponok, Bludgeon and many others.... I hope it'll be a parodistic spotlight showing us that "not everyone can pull off a Starscream", because I can't seriously imagine Ramjet with his humongous 5 score intellect devising wile plans to kill Megs. He'll probably try to ram him with his nosecone. :)

As for the crossover, I'm on the same opinion as Wolverine: "What is this, avengers vs. Nascar?"
