Transformers:Timelines #2 Review (SPOILERS)
Moderators:Best First, spiderfrommars, IronHide
Got a hold of this not knowing what the heck it was.
And loved it.
Needless to say, it was the most pleasant of surprises to find that this comic takes place in the Marvel continuity and chronicles what happened after the Ark crashed back to Earth and after the whole Last Autobot ordeal.
I wasn't expecting that, and it just blew me away.
I hadn't really realized what getting back to the Marvel days would do for me. Come to find out that I probably would have preferred IDW continue where Marvel left off after all.
So yeah, this was an "A-" for me due to the nostalgia kick. A pleasant surprise.

"But the Costa story featuring Starscream? Fantastic! This guy is "The One", I just know it, just from these few pages. "--Yaya, who is never wrong.

Yeah, that was pretty much my reaction when my comic guy handed it to me.spiderfrommars wrote:Eh? What? How?
Who wrote/drew it?
What was Timelines 1?
Here's and Ebay summary of it. http://cgi.ebay.com/TRANSFORMERS-TIMELI ... dZViewItem
It was published by FP Comics (Fun Pack?) and was not written by Furman but some other dude. It features the Transformers Classics toy versions of the characters, but the story clearly is an extension of the end of Furman's G1 Marvelverse.
Timelines #1 was, I think, about the Beast Wars before they arrived on Earth.
I think each issue features a story from different universes.

I think it discounts G2. Megatron is sitting in the Ark in his Classics form. We find out what happened to Shockwave and Ratchet too. Galvatron's not in it because, as you recall, he got tossed into icy waters by Fortress Maximus. Grimlock's in it and Bludgeon is mentioned.spiderfrommars wrote:The synopsis I read said something about Megatron after the second Ark crash at the end of the G1 comic. Is it set before G2 or does it discount it?
That's all I'm going to spoil you with.

Yeah, actually I JUST saw Timelines #1 at my LCS, in a firesale of stuff that people had pulled, but never came to get.
It WAS Beast Wars, and that combined with the hefty price tag persuaded me not to get it. But that Timelines #2 sounds super super sweet.

Hmmm yeah, was able to read this yesterday...
Not only does it seemingly discount G2, it also apparently discounts the Marvel UK stuff. Which is a shame. I agree with Snarl, the writing isn't fantastic, but it was good to see original G1 characters again. I liked the glimpse of the Megaton/Ratchet/Shockwave stuff and using the ehobby exclusive character was quite a good idea imho. Oh and fembots...
Some nice touches, i'll probably re-read it again, but it's not a first class winner, unfortunately.

Sadly, yeah, other then for the great art and the fanwank, it's nothing special. It does have character moments for Dreadwing or Weirdwolf, but the dialogue feels forced most of the time, and the whole Bugbite plot is silly. As Megs puts it, "I've had my fill with visitors from another dimension!" The final battle was too hasty. Starscream just vanishes... Grimmy doesn't do much. Ah well, at least we can now say we had a Comic with Action Master Snarl in it.snarl wrote:I was reading this in FP this arvo...
TBH, it came across as if it was written either by a **** or a 13 year old.
Not to mention it disregards Marvel UK totally...
Anyone else saw Galvatron's cannon behind Megs? Makes you wonder why his new cannon is part orange, eh?
Now this one, this is better... a bit. And now I want a Hacksaw toy...

"Games of Deception" was this year's Botcon comic. The main set included Classics Thundercracker, Dirge, and Thrust who were repaints/remolds of the Classics Starscream mold, Dreadwind who was a repaint/remold of Classics Jetfire, and Bugbite who was a repaint of Classics Bumblebee.veritech wrote:So what's the deal with Bugbite. I've read online speculation that he may be the same "Bug Bite" from Go-Bots. Is this true? And if so, why does he look like a Bumblebee/Cliffjumper clone?
The reason why Bugbite is a Bumblebee repaint dates back to a previous Bugbite who was a repaint of the G1 Bumblebee reissue. He was released with other Minibot repaints who were supposedly their Go-Bot namesakes who traveled from their universe to the Transformer universe as a special duties unit. The other repaints were Bad Boy, Pathfinder, Road Ranger, Smallfoot, and Treads.
That should cover it.
