TBH their sales, looking at the graph, seem more determined by school holidays! Sales go up at Christmas, Easter but especially over the Summer vacation

It just depends on their release schedule and the number of titles out at that moment, really. I think in March they had more titles out compared to other months and maybe some TPB's as well, which are included in these figures.

Off the first look, the most striking thing to me was that the original animated movie adaptation did so well. I thought it would have seen more Generations type numbers.

So over the past 18 months, they IDW averages from Transformer sales an estimated $213,092 in U.S. revenue. I say "U.S. revenue" because these figures don't include overseas sales, if I'm not mistaken.

So from U.S. sales, TF brings in about two and a half million dollars.

That's by ICV2.com figure estimates.

Like I said, doesn't include international sales and other sources of revenue from Transformers.

And I suck at accounting, so I could be off. But two and a half million doesn't sound to shabby.

Love to see a graph, though.

Probably the best out of IDW's lineup, although at least IDW's other titles can fend for themselves, unlike Dreamwave. I wonder how much the fees they have to pay Hasbro are....

Could we perhaps compare these to the second biggest IDW-property? That would be Angel, correct?

Would be nice to see how TF fends itself in comparrisson each month, so we could see if it's worth the costs of the license. ( wich, surely, must be high.)

Well, they say Marvel did most of the work for the TF/Avengers crossover.

So I would estimate that IDW would get more like 25% than 50%.

So based on this:

Hibbs or someone does the TPB sales at CBR if I can remember correctly, you should be able to find them. They're just as inaccurate as the DM sales figures. They used to be even worse as you couldn't even use them to get an average as they only recorded what was selling really well during a set time-period. So something could sell gangbusters during the first part of the year, then not shift over 300 copies in the last and therefore not make the chart. Bookscan got altered recently so it records sales slightly better now, IIRC.

TF/Avengers is basically a Marvel book. I have no idea how the money is split. Perhaps the same way as the Dabel Bros. deal.

There's a big push on TF products in my company at the moment, but it won't last much longer and I don't think GN sales were all that, tbh. Although TPB sales are basically money in the bank after a certain, normally pretty low, point. It was recently revealed that TPB sales basically keep Vertigo afloat, for example.

I could never even immagine... that our beloved giant fighting alien robots supply such a ginormous percentage of IDW's income..

Sales are only one part of the equation.

The cost of the license is the other. If you look at DW's bankruptcy debt sheet, the cost of the license was quite high and probably the biggest factor, after corrupt business practices, in sinking the company.

According to Ryall last year, it was necessary to increase the price of Transformers:Generations to $3.99 to make it worth it monetarily.

So though TF might make up the largest portion of IDW sales, you can bet your left nut TF is also their biggest expense.

I was just thinking... that must put an awful lot of pressure on Furman and the other writers and artists. Needing to write big titles that need to sell big or they're in the hole. I wonder if it constrains them creatively.

I just don't think that's the situation IDW is in. That was DW's situation.

They had TF, and then they had a bunch of crap no one bought that they still published with the money TF was bringing in. When the TF sales started going down (post early 00s nostalgia time), then DW started sagging because they didn't want to stop publishing crap or buying fast cars.

IDW has plenty of other properties, and they were doing fine financially before TF. They know how to make their numbers and revenue work.

With that being said, I really don't see how Generations at 3.99 makes any sort of sense whatsoever.

Man, look at how much they owe Don and Simon >_< That would royally screw me up financially

We have a client right now our company is battling with because they owe us a ton of money too and refuse to pay and it is such a pain in the ass.
