Wow... that's some pretty impressive off-diamond-charts sales. Much better than we were thinking then. And GO EUROPE! ^^

I guess it's true then, we don't take too kindly to them "real American Herooooeeesss" here in the EU, but like them Robots?

And in the U.S it's of course the other way around... Well, different cultural strokes and all that.

I wonder how much Marvel and DC sells outside of Diamond...?

I was looking at that and thinking, "Wow, LSOTW was really that far under the Bumblebee series?" The sold-out figure makes sense.

Yeah, but what doesn't make sense is why they underproduced LSOTW vs the Bumblebee mini.

My theory: they wanted to be able to say they sold out LSTOW to increase the interest. Mission accomplished, I would say. Though the issue stands on it's own, to be able to make the "sold out" announcement just increases the fervor for it.

I'm assuming IDW is under-producing the series, since Lone Star Comics didn't get LSOTW #2 in until two weeks after the release date.

Transformers fans being stupid probably has something to do with it, too. After all, Drift's popularity has skyrocketed since his toy was announced.

There's a very good explanation for this...two actually.

1. The week LSOTW # 2 was shipped there was a trucking accident that delayed shipments to a lot of stores serviced by Diamonds Plattsburgh, NY warehouse. A lot of other IDW titles that shipped that week were affected. Angel, which usually sells around 20K, is listed at around 11k for the month of Feb. The March list should have the rest of the sales for issue # 2 at the bottom of the list.

And you guys, it makes no buisness sense for IDW to intentionally under-produce a series. They are going to make a print run for what they think they can sell based on pre-orders. And even though the issue sold out through Diamond, that number is still lower than the actual print run IDW produced.

Now to reason # 2 for low TF sales...ever since IDW has had the TF license they have been operating as a non-premier publisher. And, according to Ted Adams (IDW CEO) there are many retailers that don't even look past the premier section of the Previews catalog and only order titles from the premier publishers (previously Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, and Image). That means there's a lot of stores that don't even order IDW titles just because they are lumped in with the independent comics group.

Well not anymore! If you haven't seen the news IDW is the first company since 1996 to earn the recognition of premier publisher with Diamond making them the 5th premier publisher. This is a BIG deal. That means IDW will get moved up to a section in the front of the book and they will have more advertising space and pages. They will also get to showcased on the cover of the Previews catalog for a couple of issues out of the year. IDW is certainly hoping that this will result in increased sales by reaching those retailers and customers that don't usually have must exposure to their books. The April Previews book comes out on 31Mar10 for books shipping in June. It'll be interesting to see if IDW titles see a sales bump for June issues.

I had no idea about the accident. Thanks for enlightening me.

But out of the three US distribution centers, the NY center is the farthest from Texas. I wouldn't think they'd ship comics here when the Tennessee warehouse is much closer.

Look at the comparison here:

TRANSFORMERS: INFILTRATION
JAN06 #1 45,468
FEB06 #2 35,828
MAR06 #3 30,344
APR06 #4 28,835
MAY06 #5 27,264
JUL06 #6 25,303

They really dropped the ball when they didn't have an ongoing from the start. Then again, I think Infiltration's slow start contributed to that sales plummet from 1 to 6. Still, ending a series at 25k when that same series would sell almost in the single-digit-thousands these days is pretty damn good.

I would think, regardless of whether Simon, Costa, McCarthy, or Roche were writing, we'd still be seeing the same sales we have now.

It would take big name writer and artist to maintain those levels now.

I dunno. This was a year after Dreamwave folded. There had been plenty of Transformer comics on the market at this point. This isn't like when Prime Directive #1 sold something like two hundred thousand copies and was going for up to fifty bucks in some places.

We don't know how different those estimates for Infiltration would have been had the cover price been $3.99 instead of $2.99.

Glad that sales on the Bayverse are down.

Sad that Simon was wasted on that terrible abortion-verse of the TFs.

Ongoing has shed a fair whack of readers over the last arc then.

I can see them struggling to get momentum back on that book - it's a stinker to be honest.

Well, they shouldn't have decided to pitch the book at ***** then.

See, this is a big thing - the book is clearly not aimed at me.

If you look at their board, they've blatantly targeted a certain element (the cartoon idiots) to the detriment of the story.
