Transformers you would like to see in a future Spotlight

Post by Hound » Sat Jan 20, 2007 4:35 pm

We have had a pretty good selection of Transformers in the spotlights so far. I believe no more have been announced after the Galvatron one. Hopefully IDW will continue with the series.

So, which Transformers would you like to see get a spotlight issue?

I think Mirage would be a good choice. Especially if IDW used his current 'classics' form which I think is genius. Even in his G1 incarnation he was pretty much ignored in both comic and cartoon.

I would also like Nick Roche to draw this. I demand it be done.

Agree about mirage, and similar for Thundercracker from t'other side.

Personally i'd be quite keen to see a Ravage spotlight. Assuming we get something similat to the blinding marvel uk 'Megs only friend' and cunning but loyal bastard one, and not the snarling cypher we had in both the cartoon and DW.

Scorponok would be cool, altough i understand he is in the UM spotlight.

I think it would also be nice to see someone random and underdeveloped given a shot - Sureshot for example, or his supposed oppostite number, Treadshot. Anyone with an interesting undeveoped Tech-spec quirk really - which i guess brings us back to Mirage and TC.

On that front i really like that Hardhead and Astrotrain have been picked to play parts. I love that, while there is a core of 'first wave' charachters, we don't have the silly toy release date based approach we saw in the DW continuity and which was of course also forced on the original continuities.

Art wise - any of the current crop is good. IDW are bossing it on the art front.

IDW are bossing it on all fronts actually.

love it.

Agree Ravage would be a cool one.

Repugnus? Cyclonus or Scourge? Dare I say... Starscream?

Anyone got a handy link to the upcoming spotlights and the artists drawing them?

Repugnus could be a good choice, the most despised AUtobot.

Hmmm. I think you're on to something there, BF. I think having a oneshot with both Mirage and Thundercracker together, a Two-shot, if you will, is an incredible idea. Have them both sent by their respective factions to attain the same goal, only to meet up and bond on a certain level, given their commonalities. Have them have their own independent adventure together somewhere in the galazy.

I like that idea. I'll broach it to Simon on the IDW boards, maybe he'll think about it and get the urge to do it.
"But the Costa story featuring Starscream? Fantastic! This guy is "The One", I just know it, just from these few pages. "--Yaya, who is never wrong.

I wsn't suggesting they should go together - and i think the notion that they have commanalities is flawed and a rather forced story notion.

Yes they both doubt their causes - but this means that they actually don't have that much in common.

Mirage is an upper class character who doesn't feel much affinity for the Autobot cause. Essentially he is more bothered by the high life, not that keen on his 'lower class' comrades and essentially doesn't care very much only finds himself on a side in the war because his aristocratic life has been taken away by it. he also needs constant persuassion to remain on the side, suggesting a strong will.

TC on the other hand actively needs a cause, and it is his scorn for those who can't fly that has driven him towards the deceptiocons, but his compassion for life causes him to question the cause. However TC is essentially a bit of a coward so he is easily kept in mind.

so they actually have little common ground. One is a strong willed snob who doesn't care very much. The other is a bit of a lowbrow coward who needs direction in his life but is troubled by the fact he actually does care.

the above based on their universe profiles and my general opinions. Essentially i think its a bit of trite idea that doesn't do justice to either character.

Repugnus would certainly be welcome, as would Mirage and Thundercracker...in fact I'm a bit disappointed we don't get more from Thundercracker in Escalation beyond a couple of lines. Then again, there's so many possibilities for characters with interesting stories to tell...Blades, Ravage, Ratbat, Blaster, Divebomb and Guzzle (obviously) are all worthy candidates before we start getting into the really obscure ones (Clench as a personal wish, or Ironfist, with a name like that he seems like he'd be a fascist Autobot). I'd like them to take a bit more of a risk with Spotlight characters, so far the choices have all been fan-favourites, and (apart from Sixshot) were all featured heavily in previous continuities. I know that Banzaitron, Squawkbox and Swindle showing up and getting screentime is cool, but i'd love to see some of the obscurer bots getting into the spotlight.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

Getaway - Seriously he could have an excellent survival/hunter story about him. Quickswitch also has a good background that could be built upon.

Nobody's as of yet picked the most obvious one... :)

BLASTER.

Other than him I'd like a Bludgeon one, focusing on both his early days of learning his "dark arts" and his current situation, trying to make sense out of the mad world that his pretender Shell has locked him into..

Scattershot is also a character that I've been keen on learning more of ever since I read his profile, seeing as he doesn't strike me as a very scientific guy, more like a warrior-type that would feel more at home in the Wreckers than as a Technobot-leader. Yet he must be rather clever now mustn't he?
