Hello! I'm going to buy a Beast Wars: The Gathering and I have some questions...
Up till now I know well only 3 first series of Beast Wars. I comletly don't know what's happening in Beast Machines i Beast Wars II/Beast Wars Neo.
Did I missed something important not reading them?
And were can I find summary of all series?
are there more comic books about Beast Wars?
And last: How much will I understand from the gathering ? :P
Thanks,
Tornero.

The first three seasons of BW are all you need to see first. The Gathering takes place mostly during the end of season 2 and the start of season 3. BM is a two-season sequel to BW that may or may not happen in the IDW comics continuity.
A couple of characters from BW2 and Neo show up in the gathering but it's not essential to have seen those series to understand what's going on.
The only other BW comic books are the Botcon convention exclusives (such as this year's Dawn of Futures Past which will be available in comic shops) and a short one-shot story in the Dreamwave Summer Special which reads as a kind of prologue to The Gathering (although it has different writers). Dreamwave used it to promote their forthcoming BW comic series but that was never produced due to the company going a bit tits up.

Especially as they bear no discernable relation to the Japanese characters. Other than Magmatron, they're little more than Easter Eggs.Metal Vendetta wrote:A couple of characters from BW2 and Neo show up in the gathering but it's not essential to have seen those series to understand what's going on.
Grrr. Argh.
Well I've not read it, and I haven't suffered at all.Tornero wrote:What is the plot of this Summer Special? Is it worth to be bought with The Gathering?
Either the three-part pilot eps for the original TF cartoon... or a series of profile books, published by Dreamwave. (Akin to the Universe profiles that Marvel publish)And what is "More than meets the eye" (i know that it is not Beast Wars)?
Grrr. Argh.

To add to my esteemed colleague Blendocron's reply:
The summer special plot is fairly throwaway, and it wasn't written by Furman...it fits with The Gathering but is in no way essential, and is basically a teaser for a BW series that would have been Gatheringesque, but probably not as good.
I don't know whether Dawn will be a one-shot or a series...has anyone on here read it yet?
And More Than Meets The Eye will be Beast Wars soon - well, sort of. Simon Furman and Ben Yee are working on a series of Beast Wars profile books that may or may not be called Beast Wars More Than Meets The Eye after the DW G1 and Armada books of the same name.

Hrm. Oddly, I've just found a copy of it in a box of old junk.Brendocon wrote:Well I've not read it, and I haven't suffered at all.Tornero wrote:What is the plot of this Summer Special? Is it worth to be bought with The Gathering?
Which means that I have read it.
And that it was so brilliant that I managed to forget even having bought the thing.
Rock on!
Grrr. Argh.
I'd actually claim that it doesn't fit. IIRC there were plans to include cartoon characters to Dreamwave's planned six-issue mini-series. Please, don't ask me to provide a link to that.Metal Vendetta wrote:The summer special plot is fairly throwaway, and it wasn't written by Furman...it fits with The Gathering but is in no way essential, and is basically a teaser for a BW series that would have been Gatheringesque, but probably not as good.
In IDW version Optimus Minor doesn't make contact with cartoon characters. Not even in Rattrap's dreams.
