Yeah, I have no idea what's going on. People are talking about HOS #3, I haven't seen that solicited anywhere. Now Stormbringer #3, which is delayed until tomorrow here in the States due to our lovely Labor Day holiday.
Best First wrote:I thought we could just meander between making well thought out points, being needlessly immature, provocative and generalist, then veer into caring about constructive debate and make a few valid points, act civil for a bit, then lower the tone again, then act offended when we get called on it, then dictate what it is and isn't worth debating, reinterpret a few of my own posts through a less offensive lens, then jaunt down whatever other path our seemingly volatile mood took us in.
SPOILERS
ok, Thunderwing is making a right mess of Nebulos, Bludgeon and his crew are keeping track. Bludgeon nips out to check on how his pretender shell is coming along...
Back on Cybertron and the Centurian droids are just about to kick the two technobots in when:
Da da da da!
The wreckers and Prime turn up and kick ***** out of em! They've located the cons down to the sub levels of an old fort at Thunderhead pass and are going to go in the 'back door'...
back on Nebulos the con infiltration unit there are monitoring Thunderwing and come to the conclusion that he's as big a threat to them as he is the Nebulans. Darkwing is in charge and tells the rest of his unit that the choice is:
1) attack Thunderwing
2) Tell Megatron they lost Nebulos.
They go for option 1, but Darkwing clearly has a brain so abuses the hierarchy he set up - First he tells Thrust to remain and blow the place up if they all get killed. Then he takes Dreadwind aside and basically says: "we're ******, let the grunts die first, get a bit mashed up so it looks kosher then we leg it"
Back on Cyb the Wreckers burrow in - Scoop appears to be a genuine member now - and get violent "Save the I.D.'s for the body bags!"
Finback gets basically 'landed on', then they frag some sort of outpost, Springer tossing a grenade in to blow up Skullgrin and Bomb-Burst.
Iguanus excapes and burns off to find Bludgeon who was last seen checking out his shell... Upon finding him... Well, he kinda craps himself. Bludgeon looks MEAN!
Nebulos:
The cons attack Thunderwing. Thunderwing ****s them up. Ruckus, Roadgrabber, Crankcase... TOTALLED!
Dread and Dark stay in the sky and drop bombs on TW, then run away to find Thrust and leave. You dont see what happens to Skullcruncher, but he looked pretty chicken so I'm guessing he legged it too.
Cybertron, and the Wreckers find Bludgeon... and Iguanus, minus a leg.
Oh, Budgeon is also on his knees, ripping chunks of his own face off... See, he ****** the experiment up and has gone totally gaga, His mind wasn't up to the process apparently, ha the c word!
The Wreckers blow up the thing controlling Thunderwing.
On Earth it appears Razorclaw is in charge of another infiltration unit. Darkwing has told him TW is back online, he's spreading the good word to Megs.
Megs lets it be known very clearly that whatever it takes should be done to stop TW and when questioned by Razorcaw on Cybertron, seems to quietly relish the chance to blow up the planet!
Back on Cybertron, the Wreckers are alerted by an orbital perimeter alarm, something is entering Cybertrons airspace.
Guess who that is then!

Man... From the sounds of this, Simon has outdone himself again!
SPOILERS!!!!
Below!
Darkwing and DW being typical, I saw that one coming... should be fun to read...
Wreckers winning, saw that one too...
Bludgeon going gaga? Now, that I didn't see coming... Certainly interesting how he'll turn out later. Anyone thinks he and his cult are the 'Reavers' Sixshot is sent to find in the Sixshot mini?
So Nebulos is totally devastated? Or is there some hope for *-masters later?
I wonder... will Cybertron survive... ? And anyhow, what makes TW THAT strong? Can't be just his shell...

SPOILERS
Solid, solid issue through and through.
Sometimes, that third issue in a four-issue limited series doesn't add much to the story. That was not the case here. Revelations are made, and the story progresses quite nicely.
And how kickass was Bludgeon in this one? Didn't see his role as primaryantagonist in this series coming, but its working great having Thunderwing as Bludgeon's weapon. Something tells me though that its Thunderwings time to shine in the coming final issue.
Simon is doing a great job with the pacing here. He has also steered clear of being overly mystical, and I really appreciate that. I have to tip my hat to him again for achieving something I never thought possible--namely, giving the Pretender technology practical significance in a very cool way. With Cybertron's caustic enviroment, the Pretender technology finally makes sense. Well done, Simon.
Don and Josh's work is, again, of the highest quality we could hope to find in a TF comic book. Who would have thought that the greatest penciller in TF comic books would also be one of our greatest inkers? Don just keeps getting better and better, which is almost scary when you think about how good he already is. When you get those offers from Marvel or DC, Don, remember who loves you most, okay?
And ThunderCharger...that umbrella....good stuff
Another solid "A" comic. To produce three outstanding issues in a row is hard to come by in any comic series these days, but IDW has done just that.

Yeah, I was hoping for some Wreckers vs. Bludgeon action.sprunkner wrote:I was disappointed that I didn't get to see Bludgeon kick some ass Worlds Collide style.
More specifically, Springer vs. Bludgeon, sword-to-sword.

Look pretty similar huh?
I reckon there's a very decent chance we'll see a tank megatron remolded Bludgeon released in clasics at some stage.
I wouldn't be surprised at all if IDW and Hasbro are working dead close re: future toys and the comics, think Hasbrow may be kicking themselves for not thinking of doing it as soon as TWW came out in 2003.
We already have Classics Jetfire being the exact guy in Stormbringer.

ooh, good spot on Megs.
if they don't do this its a pretty blinding coincidence. (Potentially) Nice to see the comics and the toys working together in what seems to be a non interfering way as well.
As for issue 3 - it made my pants sticky. Great stuff - didn't see Bludgeon losing his marbles coming at all.
I usually get a bit miffed when older Characterisations are abandoned but i always thought that the old springer turned into a bit of a pansy in Marvel Uk after Impactor died, so its nice to see him as a decisive and hardcore wrecker leader here - more Wreckers plase.
Stil not sure about Scoop's role, he didn't seem to be in teh actual attack party - not sure if he is some kind of auxilery support or something - good job 100% of wreckers missions we have seen so far required digging.
Sandstorm didn't get much to do did he?
Also not exactly clear where Prime's crew are - but i am looking forward, in a slightly wistful way, to seeing Dogfight die horribly next issue. If this occurs i think we have to assume Furman was not a fan of the the triggerbot/con gimmick, especially as he has already tried to strangle windsweeper and made the 'bots feature in tha godawful cowboy story 15 years ago.
Loved the characterisation for the Infilatration unit on Nebulos - the good ol DWing - DWind interaction, although Dwing seems more aujthorative than his previous incanation. The hit and run commentary seemed to echo Dreadwin's advice when Highborw attacked Unicron...The shot where they are flying towards Thunderwing and he is blasting the ground, do we think he is finishing off Crankcase (who suprised me with his braveness) or that was the end of Skullcruncher?
Loved seeing Roadgrabber hurled through a skyscraper.
Overall though - I think my fave bit was actually Prime craddling Iguanus - classic Prime, reassuringa dying enemy, stuff like this really lends to the nobility of the character
Love Prime's big PMOP style guns as well.
Only reservation - bit unclear on Broadside's size which sometimes made the perspective i some panles a bit screwy. But maybe that's just me.
Let's hope thsi ends in the style it desrves too...

Forgot all about him, actually.Best First wrote: Also not exactly clear where Prime's crew are - but i am looking forward, in a slightly wistful way, to seeing Dogfight die horribly next issue.
I'm sure there was a point to his appearance, and its either as you say, he's going to die the hero death, or he's going to be the savior of the day. Why else have him pop up?
I hope he doesn't bite it. As much as I hated his cowboy story in Marvel, I think he looks quite kickass. Be unfortunate for him to go, but Bludgeon looked kickass as well, and now he's strumming his lips going PWWWWWTTTTTTTTTTTT......

Yes, just when you think you can foretell what Simon will write... BANG! I wonder, is this the end of Bludgeon and crew? If I have to complain about the issue, it's that they went down too easily... granted, it's the friggin Wreckers and they suprised them, but still... plus where was Bugly? Sitting on the closet reading Playbot?
I do hope they will be the 'Reavers' Sixshot is sent to find... a mad Bludgeon would be even more scary.. plus I don't think any of the Pretenders are 'gone for good' dead, only deactivated-
I think Springer was like that mostly, but he started out indecisive... - bit Ultra Magnus-like. However by Survivors, I think he was really hard-core leader material.I usually get a bit miffed when older Characterisations are abandoned but i always thought that the old springer turned into a bit of a pansy in Marvel Uk after Impactor died, so its nice to see him as a decisive and hardcore wrecker leader here - more Wreckers plase.
I think it's a fair bet he's a regular Wrecker, from what Springer tells him in #2 he might be new to the group (and might be casualty next issue...)Stil not sure about Scoop's role, he didn't seem to be in teh actual attack party - not sure if he is some kind of auxilery support or something - good job 100% of wreckers missions we have seen so far required digging.
Hey, he wasn'T that bad... plus he was in more stories before that one, Race with the Devil for example... I always like to compare Dogfight to characters like Casey Jones or Raphael from TMNT, so full of anger and energy he doesn't know where to went it.Also not exactly clear where Prime's crew are - but i am looking forward, in a slightly wistful way, to seeing Dogfight die horribly next issue. If this occurs i think we have to assume Furman was not a fan of the the triggerbot/con gimmick, especially as he has already tried to strangle windsweeper and made the 'bots feature in tha godawful cowboy story 15 years ago.
-Could be... btw I think Don mixed up the two Triggercons accidentaly while drawing them - Ruckus is the guy who knows no fear, Crank-case is a simple data collector (hence I think it should have been him telling DW the news in #2). Or maybe Simon just gave them new personas.Thunderwing and he is blasting the ground, do we think he is finishing off Crankcase (who suprised me with his braveness) or that was the end of Skullcruncher?
That was a truly heart-warming scene, showing how compassionate OP truly is...Overall though - I think my fave bit was actually Prime craddling Iguanus - classic Prime, reassuringa dying enemy, stuff like this really lends to the nobility of the character
It disturbed the hell outta me too, especially on the cover... I think as with the Dinos in the DW G1 run, Don is going for the cartoon ways, where Broadside was sometimes as large as a Gestalt...Only reservation - bit unclear on Broadside's size which sometimes made the perspective i some panles a bit screwy. But maybe that's just me.
I can't wait to see the end resolution... will Cybertron be blown up? After what happened to Bludgeon, I expect the unexpected... I guess Razorclaw and the gang will go place the explosives next issue, as every flashback with OP and Megs has been leading towards this outcome - Prime secretly blames himself for not making the sacrifice when it could have saved lives now...
