The new DVD box set came out last week. Anyone picked it up?
I have only watched the first 5 episodes but I am really enjoying it so far. It's very different for a Transformers cartoon because the human characters are the focus of the series. The humans
are Transformers and the actual Transformers pretend to be human.
The concept for Pretenders makes so much more sense in this series. The Seibertron's are in hiding, disguised as normal humans and only shed their disguises when the Destrons attack, where they become full sized Transformers. It works for a cartoon far better than it does the comic anyway.
Oddly I have yet to come across some rubbish Destron who is used as everyones comic relief bitch yet.

I'm waiting for those evil sods at Play.com to deliver it.

I think Cancer and Browning might fill that role.
Yeah, I watched the whole thing when it was on TV.

Yay indeed!
I finally got this, and after viewing up to the episode "A Strange Friendship: Cancer and Minerva", I have to say I'm really enjoying this. The characters are awesome, the stories roll along at a good pace with action and plot in equal measures, and damn, but it's good to finally see the Pretenders in cartoon form.
Yes, this one is a winner.

It's a good series, as long as you can try to forget to expect any similarty between the characters and their US/UK counterparts. (too bad, I'd have loved to see gloomy old farts Dreadwind-Darkwing animated...)
Otherwise it has the best storyline of the 3 Japanese animated G1 series, with some really good characters. Oh, and Overlord ROCKS! Man, a toy that was around in Europe since 1990 and we never even know where to put the character, where he belongs... I always imagined him to be the Con counterpart of Omega, since he too splits into two parts...

I'm watching the second to last DVD now. I love the subtitles! They go so far as to explain cultural humor and even translate the background music throughout the series. Image quality is excellant. This is the first time I've watched Masterforce from the beginning and in order. It's a really good set. The only thing that could could have been better is the box art.
My only wish is that Marvel had handled the Pretenders as well as Masterforce did. It's even obvious that Godmasters were much more powerful than the Westenrized Powermasters. Masterforce is one of the best Transformers series ever.
I recently acquired a multi-region DVD player. What a joy it's been to be able to watch the Metrodome DVDs on something other than my computer.

I have to agree with all the positive comments here. I am on the last disc now and have enjoyed almost every minute that I have watched so far.
I also love the main theme music
