Beast Wars issue 4 (spoilers)

Post by sprunkner » Sun May 14, 2006 3:11 am

Well, apparently I am the champion of the world and the first to pick up this little gem. Spoilers follow...

So... Does this feel like a bit of an anticlimax to anyone else? Some really good stuff, including: "Grimlock? The Grimlock?" and the whole Grims/Magmatron fight was pretty sweet until he LOST like one page into it! Me Grimlock no lose fights!

But then, of course, the bit with Razorbeast and the chronal displacement was a nice touch. One of those stories where the info we need to defeat the bad guy is dropped in issue one and then the action keeps our minds off it until the last minute. I was pleased.

And the double Don splash page of Beast Wars mayhem made up for Grimlock's losing. Almost, anyway. Yet Ravage wasn't in the splash page. And there's something else... why can't Grimlock fight Ravage in this issue? We don't need story. Just fights.

The sending back of Magmatron I liked, though it's ridiculous not for Razorbeast to kill Megs. I mean, he's displacing the timeline already like crazy. "I don't want to mess up continuity... er, the timeline."

All in all, very much a lead-in and a bit disappointing. I wonder what this would have been like had another BW series not been in the works.

Killerwhale-Elephants rock. :) As do polar-bears.

I thought it was a good read for sure, altho it could have been a bit longer perhaps, everything happens at lightning-speed here.

I liked that Grimlock didnt trash Magmatron because that was what I was expecting! So I was pleased that it wasnt what one would think.

Razorbeast fight was better in that way, because he outsmarted Magmatron.

Torca was perfect in his Infantry General role leading the rest of the maximals (although his initial cameo suggested otherwise what he said he did, maybe he woke up with a bad temper?).

I really liked the issue, its been a long time since I enjoyed a tfs series as much as this.

i really enjoyed it - the bit wherethe Maxi cavalry rushed in made me grin from ear to ear, even if it is a bit of a plot staple.

i agree Grimmers went down a bit easy, oh, and Magmatron wasn't sent back, he was sent nowhere basically - hence the comment 'you're out of time'.

the timeline stuff, meh, its a decent excuse not to mess with continuity i guess, but it does seem a bit unclear as to how much Razorbeast etc knows about how the BWs turn out and where the future we saw in issue 1 fits in terms of Beast Machines.

Oh, and Torca was being pulled out of a Tar pit, not restrained in issue 1 i think, so no mood change.

anyway - great issue, great mini. loved it.

mind blowing art as well.

I think it's a case of dramatic irony - he doesn't know how they're going to turn out, but knowing Megatron he says he'll probably try to "leave this planet a Maximal-free zone and export his madness back to Cybertron". I'm pretty sure they're from a pre-BM timeframe.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

Me too. I liked that he lost.... he still helped provide a distraction (and some good lines!) but it underlines that Mags is very hard to beat. It's nice that it fell to Razorbeast and his wits to save the day.

Really liked this series. A great success from IDW.
