I figured it would be good to have a topic on IDW's upcoming "Stormbringer" event where we could share some news & rumors. So, everyone knows by now that Figueroa will be the artist and Cybertron will be involved. Anything else? Speculation? Unicron dances in the rain in a tutu? (unwilling to look for more info as I am supposed to be working on finals)

I think the problem with using Impy is that he'd be such a good character he would draw the focus away from the main toyline characters, something presumably Hasbro would be keen to avoid. If he does appear, I'd bet any money he won't survive the series.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

The generation of fans who grew up worshipping the character?
And that problem would exist in any story devoid of humans. If they're there to be identified with, you take them away and the "lack of anybody to identify with" issue's gonna be the same regardless of which giant metal robot is in the middle of it.
Not really saying anything should be told from the Impster's perspective. Just that "detracting from the other characters" isn't really a legit reason to omit him. Because that can be said of any non-toy character.
Hasbro seemingly had no problem with his inclusion back when there were toys of the other characters to be detracted from... can't personally see it being a major stumbling block now.

Brend speaketh the trutheth.
yeth.
To be honest my main issue with Imapctor is actually Springer, in the original Merval UK run he was aleays a pretty crappy leader and stood well in IMpy's shadow, if he was developed to have a bit more swash and buckle, whihc i suppose he was to some extent in WW, then i woul;dn't miss impy so much. Also a grit injection is required, Springer always seemd a bit light for someone who essentially led a commando squad, at least he did down teh line, his first intoduction, along with SS and BS was smashing, but he seemed a bit wimpy and indecisive at several points after that.
IMO.

More Whirl characterisation would be most welcome.
All he got in Marvel was a couple of issues in Target:2006, one shot of possibly his feet (but thinking about it, more likely to be Sandstorm's) in Distant Thunder, and a panel or two in Peace.
But from that, IMO, he came across as a battle-hardened vet, and at the same time like a more even-tempered version of Impactor.
Was he ever in DW?
