hasn't had green light yet.

Supposed to be coming out in july 07

Arguing now about whether to use old voices

michael bay is on board

soundwave isn't gonna be a copter

there is gonna be no mass shifting (so no megs as a hand gun  )

bots are gonna look the most realistic ever! (hmm)

set now not in 80's

Us military have agreed to use of things in the movie

alternate modes may be diff. (today it has been said that if prime is a truck, he could be a different suck, i mean truck  )

I always liked him as a gun because it represents what Megs is all about.

Guns have one purpose, to kill. thats all Megatron, the psycholagy behind his orginal design is very pure.

Didn't you fools read the original post? Who cares about Transformers, the long awaited Strawberry Shortcake movie is coming! FINALLY, I can see Lime Chiffon and her nefarious avian comrade, Parfait Parrot, pay for their crimes against The Shortcake.

Ugh. Can the return of "My little ponies" be near?

I still cannot fathom why soemone doesn't bring back Gargoyles. One of the best animation series ever (after Batman, of course...) :D

See... the problem I see when you have absolutely no mass-shifting, is that indeed, unless the bots all get alt-modes that have absolutely nothing to do with their old forms, all of the Cons are going to tower above them.

Either way... it turns into bollocks.

I don't really care that much anymore wether or not Megs is a small hand-gun or if Soundwave is a boom-box, but please, can't they find a way so that the bots don't all have to be busses of some kind...

How much blind hope does it require in order to believe that Michael Bay isn't going to cock it up?

Answers in mega-delusional units, please.

I mean, I don't like jumping on bandwagons, but this bandwagon happens top be right. He hasn't made a single film yet that deserves an airing.

my primary concern is that the bots themselves will be background characters in their own movie, with the emphasis being on the humans and their reactions to the 'bots...

which will be crap.

The Rock was fun, mainly thanks to Connery and Cage.

But I can't say I'm a Bay fan.

Pearl Harbor and Armegeddon are amongst the worst films ever made IMO.

There are rumblings that they are saving goodies like Combiners and Triple-changers for the sequel.

Wich I think is probably pretty clever, something a little bit extra to treat the movie-goers to the second time.

I think they should probably unleash the city-bots in the sequel when they're at it, just keep ramping it up troughout the movie, ^^ until the city-bots arise.

When I first joined this site, I had an inkling of an idea for what a series of TF movies could be about, based loosely on the comics, of course.

First film would've been titled "The Arrival", basic plotline being about the emergence of TF activity on Earth.

Second film being titled something like "Second Generation", introducing gestalts and a few other early TF gimmicks.

Third film being titled (but not featuring) "Robot Masters", whereby a marriage* of TF and human results in all (several) of the ~Masters types.

Highly unlikely that anyone would ever follow that recipe. ;)

* not the wedding bells kind!

triologies are the new movie (thanks a lot matrix).

but about bay, he's just directing (and same with arrmageddon and pearl harbor), he didn't write them, he handled the camera work. the stories were really weak, but i never had any complaints about the camera work itself. given the conditions of "the scene has to do this" this being a variable, i don't think his direction was that bad.

if this movie turns out a decent script and plot (this includes alt modes) bays style of directing might work well for it. there's also the alternative which lucas took and there were special effects in EVERY scene and it would totally ruin a good script (even a bad one).

I think that Welker probably has a lesser shot, as his Megatron sounds a bit more like some manical 80s toy villan, and I think G1 Optimus Prime is a more definitive characterization, whereas people like BW Megatron and Armada Megatron a lot as well.

From tfarchive.org
It seems that it's quite the news day with info leaving this year's Comic-Con.
More specifically, Nemesis Scourge writes:

"IESB have just issued the following news which will please a lot of G1 fans around the world:

'While at Comic Con today, our very own Robert Sanchez received confirmation that Peter Cullen has in fact been cast as the voice of Optimus Prime in Michael Bay's Live Action Transformers Movie. More details to follow!'"
TFW2005's crew at this year's Comic-Con claim that they heard from official sources that Frank Welker, the voice of the original Megatron, is also seriously considered for the voice of the character in the upcoming Live-Action film. Maybe the powers that be eventually started satisfing the fans and we can get something good out of it? Let's hope so.

For me it's Welker for Megs, the Maniacal Tyrant angle worked IMO.

I find Armarda/Energon/Cybertron Megs too Calm and Calculating, which is great for those particular Megs. BUT this is G1 Megs and BW, etc fans should back off and let it get that unmistakeable G1 voice talent touch.

(Soundwave better sound right too)

Agreed.

And you need Welker and Cullen together, it just sounds right.

Again, I'm not so sure about Welker...again I never thought they'd have the brains to pick Cullen, so we're already ahead in my book. But you definitely raise a good point about the other Megs, though. I guess it'll all come down to exactly what kind of Megaton they're writing.

But you raise a great point, Aux: they better not f*** up Soundwave.

I may be about to step into what some will consider sacrilegious territory but....

....don't you think Soundwaves voice sounds a bit dated now; a bit '80's? Like, if you were going to do a modern cover-version of Bon Jovi's 'Livin on a Prayer' you wouldn't use that awful synth-voice box, would you?

Soundwave needs a voice that represents him as a cold, calculating character, though. And that I suppose is what his G1 'toon voice did. We just need a mondern interpretation, maybe.

And Megs - I think I'd rather hear a BW-style voice. Welkers take might be a bit OTT for a non-'toon Megs.

But that's the best bit!

Retro voices are cool anyhow... notice how the Daleks' voices weren't changed at all in the new Doctor Who series. They still sound like nothing else. :)

Fair point, well made.

But, whereas Daleks sound like nothing else, Soundwave sounds like Sparky's Magic Piano

Gosh, after all these years, my screename is still here!!! I haven't logged onto this forum for several years. I was mostly active back when it was the original messageboard by Omega Supreme back in the late 1990s.

Anyway, I completely daydreamed through the trailer in the theaters when we went to see Pirates 2. So I am right now trying to download it online.

I like what I read so far. Original voices, Peter Cullen, Frank Welker. I understand Chris Latta is dead. Wonder how they are going to imitate his voice? It can be done I'm sure (hope they don't do that voice from Beast Wars...wasn't bad, but it just wasn't the same....although it was FAR better than that non-Optimus Prime voice that spoke to Optimus Primal in Beast Machines (barf).

I am really looking forward to this. I hope it has good story to it like Spiderman and is not just a bunch of blowing things up and loud music blaring through the whole movie as they did in Hulk and so many other live action marvel movies
