It's very, very good. I think I described it to my housemates as "magnificent". I didn't actually get to read it until Sunday morning due to excessive alcohol intake on Saturday night, but it really was worth waiting for. Magmatron is a great villain, and I love his line towards the end: "So. That is how it is to be." Lovely.
Agreed.Besty wrote:Story - great

I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

Chiming in with the BW love.
Particularly liked the art techniques used for the Cybertron pages.
Loved how this comic just got down to it, bish bash bosh there's your set-up and cast, next!
The pacing control was effective for me. Nicely crafted stuff. Liked how the main protagonist pretty much stands in place whilst everything around him moves, his plan unravels and he's still this big dominating presence.

hmm. controversial.spiderfrommars wrote:Haven't read it just yet.
Am I to take from all this love that its better than Infiltration?
its very different in terms of pacing and assumed knolwedge, and you don't know many of the cast.
I think BW's is easier in a way as the continuity is a lot more linear, whereas G1 has been rebooted to buggery (ouch).
Oddly i actually think Don is better suited to the beasty stuff, the more colourful look suits his art (and i'ts great to see solid black being used well after DW).
actually all this is just me working my way up to saying Yes, it probably is better than infiltration.
but the comparison is a little unfair as thsi seems more squarly aimed at the fans which means it is less hamstrung by an introductory narritive.
Simon's done a blinder either way.
2 good TF comics. i'm confused.
yay.
Although I thought it was good, I'd have to say that I have preferred Infiltration so far. I was a bit dispointed in the use of Magmatron for a name. I'm all for a differnet leader but why such a similar name to Megatron, it felt forced to me. Similarly the use of a Oppy Prime head on the maximal commander. Do maximals just get given a optimus head when they are in charge???
Also wasn't too impressed with Magmatron's alt modes, I can see the sea one just flopping about on the ground while the other two do their thing.
Besides that I thought it a good read and definatley like the where it appears to be going. The out of sinc time thing was very cool.

Well, Soporific, you have to remember that Magmatron is a villain from Beast Wars Neo in Japan, and a future member of the new Dinobots in Beast Machines, hence the name Magmatron, and the alt-modes. He acctually had a toy.
You did notice that he's got several modes I hope? He's basically a sort of combiner, of a pterodactyl, a Tyrannosaurus, and a Plesiousaurus.
Means he can operate in both land, water and the air, at the same time.

Even when he's a Dinobot, he's still a Predacon though - his box came with Japanese writing and a Pred insignia.Predabot wrote:Well, Soporific, you have to remember that Magmatron is a villain from Beast Wars Neo in Japan, and a future member of the new Dinobots in Beast Machines, hence the name Magmatron, and the alt-modes. As Pred has partially pointed out these are all existing toys/charactres, just ones that never made it into our continiuities previoulsy.Soporific wrote:Although I thought it was good, I'd have to say that I have preferred Infiltration so far. The Maximal is Leoconoy.
LioConvoy. As in Lion, not Leo.
Loved it! Especially the cameos for Dead End and Killer Punch. Anything that can throw away a Killer Punch cameo is the sex.
Handy guide to identifying JBW toys/chars!

I'm sure I put elasmosaur when I submitted it.

Quetzalcoatlus, Elasmosaur and Gigatosaurus, iirc. Just to be pedantic. Or just to be me, whichever you prefer.Predabot wrote:He's basically a sort of combiner, of a pterodactyl, a Tyrannosaurus, and a Plesiousaurus.

It's different. Personally I enjoy Infiltration more overall.spiderfrommars wrote:Am I to take from all this love that its better than Infiltration?
Anyway, my late and preliminary review:

Comments, crits and correction of blatant mistakes welcome. Even if it's just "you nicked our review format, you git."
Sorry guys,
I don't really know anything about beast machines or the Japanese tfs, I just thought they where new characters. The fact he was a combiner was kind of my gripe, I just felt that if you need all your alt modes in the same place to combine it would be easier if you didn't have ones that where confined to different terrain.
Once again sorry, I didn't mean to rub people the wrong way.

It's really no problem Soporific.
I've read it now, and I have to say, I enjoyed it more than Infiltration too.
Josh's colours are pretty darn great. Good stuff.
Makes me wish he was on the regular book as colourist, instead of Rausch. Wich I really feel is turning in Sub-par work on Infiltration. He's ussually much better, I really have no clue what the heck he's up to.
As for the writing and art, well their both top-notch. And really, what do you expect, it's BEAST WARS!
{cue insane electric guitarr-solo from season 2}
Durun durun durun duu! Dun duu!
I think, that if you left both Don and Simon on this series for more than the 4 issues alloted, and let em' rip at it, it could be bloody awesome. There's just so many cool things to do with the worlds of the Beast Wars.

I just had a looong discussion with a fellow HUngarian Transfan who think Furman ruined the show with this comic. LOng story short, I pointed out to him that none of the TFs were organic before they arrived on Earth, but he did raise a point -
When DW went down, we got previews about their upcoming BW comic. Now, I know it's essentially the same as The Gathering, but did Simon rewrite-it or did Don draw new pages?
And how come, if they already got the rights to use this DW material, that they don't have the right yet to publish Energon or TWW?

"I've come to believe you are working for the enemy, Vervain. There is no other explanation... for your idiocy." (General Woundwort)
Or even afterwards.BB Shockwave wrote:LOng story short, I pointed out to him that none of the TFs were organic before they arrived on Earth
The BW characters are no more organic than a ye olde Pretender. It's synthetic covering.
Otherwise the reformatting in Beast Machines makes no sense at all.
Grrr. Argh.
Both? Seems likely going by what Mr F said and simple common sense.BB Shockwave wrote:Now, I know it's essentially the same as The Gathering, but did Simon rewrite-it or did Don draw new pages?
*This* material would not really count as DW stuff. And how come, if they already got the rights to use this DW material, that they don't have the right yet to publish Energon or TWW?
It's possible the other reprints are coming, considering they've just reprinted some DW G1 stuff and the MTMTE books are listed as being reprinted by them in the Summer. And it's possible they're not.
