IDW #1 TF Comic Sales

TRANSFORMERS INFILTRATION #1* is ranked # 30 of the top 100 comics sold for January 2006.

That would put it at around 55 to 60,000 copies sold most likely, and the highest ranking non-Marvel, non-DC title.

Not bad. If you subtract the nostalgia fad sales from the DW #1 numbers of over 100,000 copies, you likely get a similiar strong start with IDW.

The question is will it maintain those readers.

DW's worst titles sold around 28,000 to 33,000 after two years before cancellation. IDW is going to have to show some staying power and hold on tight to the fans if they are to be as successful.

I'm hopeful they will continue to deliver the goods. Because for me, it never......ends..... :eyebrow:

I heard that they placed #30 on the list earlier. Good scoop there, numbers be good. :)

Even in the end, DW had three titles (G1, War Within, Micromasters) selling over 25,000 copies a piece, placing high in the top 300 each month. In todays market, this is considered a huge success for a non-Marvel, non-DC company, yet despite this, DW folded.

But DW folded not because they were selling poorly, but because of very poor business management and internal corruption. IDW is on different financial footing altogether and have been around much longer. Chris and Co. seem to have their act together even without Transformers, which is great for us because even if TF dropped to the 20,000 copies level, it would still be their top selling title. For example, last month their top selling title was ANGEL OLD FRIENDS #1 at 17,164 copies sold.


No matter how you slice it, we are in good hands. I'm sure we would still get our Transformery goodness monthly without fear of bankruptcy or cancellation.

Think about it. IDW doesn't have a single title in the top 100 for years on end, yet they still exist. Which means they know what the #### they are doing and what they need to do to survive. Transformers, even at 20,000 copies a month, would be by far their biggest seller, which is just the icing on the cake for them. Take out the icing, they still have their cake. DW only had icing.

Like I said, we are in good hands.

What I'M interested in just how many BW fans are out there that missed out on G1 and are now pumped for their own comic.

BW SHOULD be a much easier sell to people than WW was, I would think, even without the show characters.

I agree with the above post, though. DW used TF to make the whole boat float. IDW has a much better balanced buisness plan.

Besides, the day Chris Ryall starts spending his company profit on Ferraris and posting shirtless pictures of himself on the Internet, at least he'll be around to answer for himself. :lol:

Here are the official sales figures for #1 from ICV2.

30 TRANSFORMERS INFILTRATION #1* 45,468 copies

Looks like I overestimated by about 10,000 copies.

Putting this in perspective, here are DW numbers towards the end:
74 TRANSFORMERS GENERATION 1 VOL 3 #10 29,682 copies
100 TRANSFORMERS WAR WITHIN VOL 3 #3 22,928 copies
98 TRANSFORMERS MICROMASTERS #4 (Of 4) 22,517 copies

Comics money? Eh, it depends, I think. Some guys seem utterly ******* minted, others don't seem so good. Successful-non megastar guys that don't go into the companies, that stay creative only, seem to be comfortable.

Did anyone see that feature on Joey Q's flat? He's got a massive wall-mounted flatscreen TF in every room including the bathroom.
Plus you know, full mod kitchen, home cinema, 20 foot long glass dividing wall for displaying his custom guitars...
