Very good. Galvatron's back to being badass, and the nasty future is very well done. OK, so the US flag scene is pretty lame, and the ending's kinda anti-climatic but I still love the story.

I don't think I've ever even heard of or seen what any of you are talking about. Is that the part in the US comic run where it's the future, America has been destroyed by the Decepticons (lead by Galvatron) and they're going to use these big machines to absorb the energy of the atomic blasts of the missiles Europe is going to shoot at America to kill the Decepticons? And there's only like three or four Autobots left alive or something...I read that one, it was really dumb. Definitely typical American patriotism nonsense.

Funny that Furman even used such a thing, seeing as he's not american.Uberking Robert wrote:I don't think I've ever even heard of or seen what any of you are talking about. Maybe Hasbro/Marvel forced it on him? Should ask him that in an interview . I mean, the story would've been even more gritty if Spike fails and dies...
And speaking of Spike, whatever happened to Fort Max in that reality?

It's OK, and certainly features Delbo's best art on the comic...
The problem I had even as a kid was that the opening captions describe this as a possiable future. But upon seeing a timeline in which he wins Unicron doesn't just decide to do whatever he did in that future (and what's waiting just over a decade to an imortal?).
Also, if he was so adament on geting hold of Galvatron, why not send Hook Line and Sinker to the present day Ark to retrieve Megatron and then simply rebuild him?

Either he can't see all the details of that future or that future coming about relies very heavily on the actions or non-actions of other individuals whom Unicron can't rely on.inflatable dalek wrote:The problem I had even as a kid was that the opening captions describe this as a possiable future. I'm pretty fond of Rhythms of Darkness, even with the stupid American flag thing at the end. I suppose a part of that's due to the fact that it was the first TF comic I ever read (I was all of four or five at the time); the high bodycount and general darkness of the story really made an impression on me.
I'm glad that Furman saw fit to randomly toss the Pretender Monsters in there, too. For some unfathomable reason, I've always had a soft spot for the little buggers. The much-improved art from Delbo goes a long way towards making the issue impressive, too.
I could list a few other things that I liked about the story, but the bottom line is that I'd probably give a thumbs-up to any story where Cyclonus and Scourge got the tar beaten out of them by Getaway, Chainclaw and Guzzle.

That kinda harmed my enthusiasm when reading it first time.inflatable dalek wrote:

But it did start off well, and had a rather exciting battle at the end, before the cheesy cop out and Galvy getting owned far too easily.
Delbo was better than usual, but still not my thing. It would have been nice to get at least one clear picture of the emaciated Roddy.
And the ruins of the twin towers... gosh.

didn't some dude post here once or someone link to a post suggesting that you culd predict 911 through Furman's writings? crazy foo.
As an aside went to Ground Zero yesterday - v moving.
On topic - i like Rythems - its pretty dark. The ending is cheesey but the way i read it all they were trying to do was buy more time, if Galvy had not come back it was actually an ok plan, expecially if they managed to take out a decent number of 'cons, who i would suggest may have got a bit complacent due to Galvy seemingly winning all their battles for them. Plus we don't actually see how many 'cons are still alive after the consumption of Cybertron - the 'bots may not have been that out numbered.
Their other options was just to stand around and let Galvy become more powerful.
The other thing i like is that the characterisation of the lesser known guys is really strong, some people onjly get a sentance or two and you get a real sense of them - although Chainclaw is massively at odds with his wimpy UK appearence, but then he has been through a lot i guess.
Def Delbo's best work by a country mile.
My only real concern is that Crossblades goes out like a tart.

I think that was discussing something he had up for sale on ebay, including the Rodimus pic from Rhythms.Best First wrote:didn't some dude post here once or someone link to a post suggesting that you culd predict 911 through Furman's writings? crazy foo.

Well it was a 'possible' future... But then there are so many movies/comics showing the ruins of the twin towers.Best First wrote:didn't some dude post here once or someone link to a post suggesting that you culd predict 911 through Furman's writings? crazy foo..
That's even more of an accomplishment since in this reality, UNicron is still alive and enhancing their powers...Warcry wrote:I could list a few other things that I liked about the story, but the bottom line is that I'd probably give a thumbs-up to any story where Cyclonus and Scourge got the tar beaten out of them by Getaway, Chainclaw and Guzzle. I started to like the Pretender Monsters after this story, even if their toys were crap. I mean, the mere notion that there is a point where even Decepticons start have doubt about their goal, makes you wonder what Galvy must have done in that reality. I take many Cons didn't take kindly to Unicron eating their homeworld. Also I don't think it's by accident that we don't see any high-ranking Cons like Shockwave or Soundwave. I can guess what happened to them...Best First wrote:The other thing i like is that the characterisation of the lesser known guys is really strong, some people onjly get a sentance or two and you get a real sense of them -
I guess his quote could have been "Please don't hurt me!" But seeing he survived this far, he must be hard core by now... Oh and we don't see Grimlock anywhere. Furman killed him off screen!!!although Chainclaw is massively at odds with his wimpy UK appearence, but then he has been through a lot i guess.
Poor guy never even transformed. I had to wait 4 years to get internet access and find out he was a Pretender... I never saw the toy.My only real concern is that Crossblades goes out like a tart.
Interesting that the only 3 Autobots left standing in the end (Jazz, Prowl, Inferno) are pretty much the "Classic Heroes" toys who were on sale in 1990 in Europe at that time...

I think I took the piss out of him quite a lot as I remember, then he put in a personal appearance and got quite affronted at my suggestion that he might have been stark staring.spiderfrommars wrote:Yeah, but then he went and put in a personal appearance! Great times...
