Ultra Magnus - Autobot leader!

Post by spiderfrommars » Thu Oct 27, 2005 11:15 am

So, was he really not cut out to be Commander?

Could he have been better than say Rodimus, or Grimlock?

no, he would have been even worse than Optimus was, i mean, Magnus was much more of a hippy than Op ever was, and that's saying something!

just look at the amount of time's Magnus gave in! and he was only ever good when he lost his temper, and that's not a good quality to have in a leader.

he's an excellent second in command, but never leader.

Rodimus got the bum deal, even with his Matrix juice upgrade he hadn't been prepared for leadership, he had to learn as he went along and in the middle of a civil war, that's one tough deal. (which is why i liked someone's idea (soryr, can't remember who now) that after the events in TimeWars, Oppy keeps HotRod nearby to teach him a thing or two after the abmissal performance RoddyP gives out).

Grimlock was a good leader, however, he often had too narrow a focus and too much of a temper, again not good qualities in a leader. However he was a good tactician and very cunning. Again, a good second in command i reckon, but not the best leader.

Love the Magnus, but an out and out leader he is not.

Certainly the kind of soldier you would want fighting by your side though.

how experienced was Magnus, as old and experienced as Prime or a young soldier with a good yet inexperienced head on his shoulders?

If it's the later, then I think given time he would learn from his mistakes and eventually make a great leader.

But if by the time the movie pops up he's an old war dog and considers Galvatron and the Sweeps to be the Transformers "Darkest Hour" then I guess I'd go with the second in command vote.

Considering how everyone treats him in Target 2006, I guess he's pretty much of a veteran by then-

But I assume he was created after Prime left, since Prime never says anything along the lines of ever knowing him,and Magnus says at one time he longs to fight side-by-side with Prime, meaning he never did before.

I have a theory about that, which I have already elaborated somewhere on this board-... :D

Its odd because the first time u see UM hes introduced to Impactor by xarron . it sort of comes across like hes a brand new robot.

Wasn't in implied somewhere that he was built specifically for Operation: Volcano?

Blast. Now why weren't these pages included in the scans I downloaded. :sheba:

Anyway, it still goes with my theory. Namely, that after many vorns have passed and still no sign from Optimus, everyone believed he was dead. But the Matrix was still intact, and since the Matrix is where the essence of all TFs (especially Primes) go, they tried to use the Flame to resurrect OP into a new body built for him. That's why UM looks like OP inside...

I like this theory because it kinda explains why Magnus is so full of indecision and self-doubt, I mean, people were expecting the return of a legend and he had to live up to it.

My take is that plain old Magnus was one of a number of Optimus-style robots on Cybertron (Fusion was another) similar to the seekers and Prowl, Bluestreak, Smokecreen etc. He was badly damaged whilst on black ops with Impactor and Xaaron had his core rebuilt into Ultra Magnus, ready for Volcano.

But y'all knew that, right?
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

Fusion was a one-off character who appeared in an Annual story which showed some of Prime's early days. Fusion was a mate of Bluestreak and got deaded. :(

Brief rundown of the story here:
