Another topic got me thinking about names that have no Value...
For example - Soundwave, TF into a stereo player, makes sense yes?
Ultra Magnus - right, so that means hes special yet doesnt really explain much elxe. so crappy name yes?

I means Beyond Great - i think its a great name.Impactor returns 2.0 wrote: Ultra Magnus - right, so that means hes special yet doesnt really explain much elxe. so crappy name yes?
Tracks, why doesn't he make any? Altho it kind of makes him sound like he runs away.
The only names i don't really like are the ones with negative connotations like Misfire - because it just doesn't make sense to me that someone would put up with them or ones that seem to derive from behaviour (so again Misfire could be an example) because it seems like the guy ran around with no name for a while before something he did earned him a title.
Then again i often wonder if some Deceps changed their names as part of their joining the faction to make themselves seem more scarey. But that being the case, Misfire still makes no sense.

Scattershot's kind of believable.
I have trouble with Jazz and Bumblebee, because that makes no sense to me. Why would one be named after a style of music and the other "code-named" after an earthen insect? Bah. Others, like Ironhide, Hoist and Ratchet seem quite logical, though I just realised Grapple sounds a little bit saucy.
Biggest annoyance is Rodimus Prime though. Ultra Magnus at least means something, Rodimus Prime doesn't mean anything, it's a dumb made up name. And it inspired a slew of awful Fanboy-imus Prime names (those that post on this board excepted).
It's a bit of a weird coincidence that, say, Bugly, got the Pretender shell that looked like a bug too, but I suppose when we saw him in WWDA he was messing around with those energo-bugs - perhaps the Pretender process can be shaped somewhat by those within it? Though that doesn't make sense either 'cause Doubleheader only had two heads in his Pretender shell...

Galvatron.
I mean, why? What does it mean? Is Galva now an improved (read bigger/better) version of Mega? At least Gigatron makes sense in that regards, but Galva?
I'm being lazy and can't be arsed to check any profiles, but Doubleheader has always bugged me. Specially when we see his heads argueing in Matrix Quest (or is my memory playing tricks with me there?) Does he have a split personality or something when out of his shell?
TFs seem to accept name changes quite easily, Bumblebee to Goldbug (and then back to Bumblebee (just cos of Ratchet)), Divebomb/Swoop, HotRod/Rodimus... so i don't think it's something they especially grow attached to (except Swoop of course!).
I mean, realisticaly (heh, always chuckle when someone says that when talking about fictional stuff), i'm sure none of the TFs would have names like "Bumblebee" or "Jazz" as they are quite Earth specific words... even "Optimus Prime" (cos it's Latin).
Just thought of another one, "Windcharger"... hello?
"Huffer" is another one that always made me chuckle, is it cos he Huffs a lot or something?
"Kup" as discussed a zillion times.
Poor old "Hosehead"... heheh...
Omega Supreme is quite a cool name tho.

Galvanising is a method of electro-plating. Galva~ being an archaic prefix pertaining to electrics, e.g. galvanometer (now voltmeter).Legion wrote:Galvatron.

Galvatron, therefore, was obviously just Megatron with a bit of electro-plating.
Shame really, but the electro-shock must've been the reason for his heightened insanity, strength, eye-glow, hair standing on end... I got nothing.
Maybe Gigatron conjured up images of a gigantic TF, rather than a normal-sized one with a heavy-duty arm-cannon?

Boy, maybe it was me that needed the electro-shock therapy!

That was the song of the tour in Budapest.
Galvy did tend to not hold back didn't he?
And when he travelled through time, world, his finger was on the button.
I think your Mrs is on to something mate.
On topic that latin i don't mind so much as i its no different (to me) than English words like Hoist - its just a translation from an alien language, but i agree about Jazz and Bumblebee, although i guess again you could say they are linguistic aproximations for Cybetronian equivalents.
Doubleheader has a twin headed jet mode which makes some sense. Maybe the Pretender process takes into account existing inclinations or abilities, doens't really explain Skullgrin or Iguanus though does it.
Altho potentially if you go by the cartoon when you get an upgrade you also get a name change, i.e Orion Pax to Oppy, Dion to UM (maybe) and A3 to Alpha Trion.
But then why tf would you call yourself Doubleheader. Unless your shell was Jenna Jameson...

That's the funny thing... Rodimus MUST mean something in Japanese! Why? Well I saw an episode of Slayers months ago,and there was an old warrior guy there who was called Rodimus! And yes, I checked on Slayer sites, it's written that way too. Maybe someone who knows japanese can check?Metal Vendetta wrote: Biggest annoyance is Rodimus Prime though. I've always been under the impression it was a made up name, and a quick bit of investigation with google (.com/.co.uk & .jp) only returns TF related sites when you do a search for Rodimus.

What about Windbreaker? No wonder his name was changed to Zap in Europe...
And Fangry is still better then Horri-Bull. Imagine how often he thought they called his name, when actually..
-SCorponok: Your stupid device isn't working, Vorath! That's horrible!
-Horri-Bull: Yes boss?
-SCorponok: Not you!
(reminds me of an Asterix book where all the vikings had names like Paf or Plaf or Seismograf, so when someone slapped someone and the word 'plaf' was written on the panel, a viking usually said 'yes, boss?)
