Undeveloped potential

Over the last 25 years the Transformers have appeared in media from the exquisite to the scribbled and been licensed to the responsible and the... Pat Lee. Discussion of all the branches of TF media within!

Undeveloped potential

Post by Metal Vendetta » Thu Oct 06, 2005 12:04 pm

Prime, Megs, Grimmy, Screamer and one eye have all had their time in the sun at one point or another, but the cast of Transformers is teeming with characters who have only had brief and inconsequential appearances. With DW we saw the Deluxe Insecticons playing a larger role; Furman seems to be pushing the Battlechargers in Inflitration, so who would you choose to be in your TF story? In short, which characters need to get out into the spotlight more?

For me it would have to be the Monsterbots and the Decepticon clones. I think there could be a nice rivalry going on there to match the Dinobots/Predacons thing, and Pounce, well, Pounce looks frickin' cool.

Any takers?
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

Definitely. Repugnus is the nearest we have to an evil Autobot. I'd like to know what makes him tick.

Also Chainclaw, Vroom and Roadgrabber. Just because.

Sunstorm, Mad Brick should have changed him into a actual character instead of a plotdevice.

perhaps someone like trailbreaker or hoist could have had more time or something. I think it would have been cool as well to have some hard hitting prowl stories

I'd like to see someone actually do anything good with Jazz.

Bluestreak has lots of potential if writers can ever get past his whole 'last survivor' complex. No one ever seems to take it further than that.

I second Repungus. He is a nasty bastard

My last nomination is Punch. I think it would be awesome to have an Autobot who disguises himself as a Decepticon, but has growing 'Jekyl & Hyde' issues, with Counterpunch developing his own personality that threatens to go out of control.

Sideswipe, clearly he is cool, and has those piledriver arms, he should get more page time, actually, more of Prowl would be interesting too...
Oh now to the obvious, the wreckers. especial Roadbuster, hes just cool

I think Prowl has had enough exposure :p

and whilst we are on classic g1 characters - Hound. He never really gets much exposure in either comic or cartoon.

Repugnus skills are sorely needed for a mission in the Generations "What..if"-book. :D

I say, Fortress Maximus! He clearly has more potential than we've seen as of yet. A peace-loving Autobot, who's also a big walking armory.

I also think Scattershot could be unleashed on the Decepticons in a Wrecker-way. He's hard as balls, crazy-ass soldier, but also the leader of a group of intellectuals.

Onslaught and Hotspot, they would have made cool leaders (especially Onslaught).

Marvel Us: "Exodus" and after.

DW: TWW, pretty much through Vol 1 and Vol 2.

Prowl is a major, prominent character. And my personal fav. Bot... :D

I'd like a story about HUbcap. Even his Tech Spec was intriguing - a con-man who doesn't do anything worthwhile to the Bot Cause, he's just there to survive and to possibly work as little as he can.

Trailbreaker doing anything except getting repeatedly caught in the gunsight* would've been cool.

*a generalisation to rhyme with spot light, for the pedants out there.

Prowl's cool.

Snubbed by the cartoon somewhat wasn't he?

^yeah to both. Guess he didn't have a good enough comedy accent or something.

Lot of good suggestions here. Big thumbs up to the Monsterbots, Chainclaw, Vroom, Onslaught, Trailbreaker and Scattershot. Hell, all the Technobots plz.

Hosehead, I think I mentioned the other day. He's basically just 'the other one' out of the Autobot junior Headmasters. Shame.

Some decent characterisation for the Coneheads would be nice.

The cassettes...while a lot of them got lots of exposure, most of it was terrifically shallow. Or comic relief. Something complex focusing on some of them would be boss. Hell, Blaster's cassettes showing up for longer than 3 panels would have been nice.

For a random bloke who could have been made into something interesting if torn away from his sub-group and the crap storyline he was locked into...Wideload. According to his profile, he's a complete ****. Might have been interesting to see more than a panel or so of that behaviour. Give us someone else for our 'hate' thread anyway...

there is a really good fan fic around on that somewhere.

quite like to see Thundercarckers doubts explored more.

And Divebomb, he seems more about the fight that the cause.

Trypticon, because I think the whole "self-loathing" thing would be great to explore, there`s a lot of mileage in that kind of story.
Logic dictates there is no place for such emotionalism in a Decepticon commander. Nor is there room for incompetence.
