probably mtmte, the basic premise was sound (mind you, a collection of fact files is a pretty hard idea to cock up). some of the actual entries suck, but on the whole it's a good read and there's plenty of pretty art to look at.
for the whole, the script writing in the comics proper left me fairly cold.

Well I quite liked the Sunstorm thing, the Summer Special and the extra Megatron story we got...the Insecticons bit totally lost me though. The next two issues were pretty good, but I was dismayed to see impending fembots though.
It's probably more to do with Don's artwork more than anything to do with the plotting, though I did think Mick had a nice take on Megatron. Better than Marvel's? Hmmm, probably not, though Marvel MEgatron was a bit...eccentric to say the least.
Bits of V2 were okay but got lost in the general mish-mash, like Grimlock taking a missile to the face was a great moment, but for him to show up again a couple of minutes later was just silly. And...well, we know it has enough flaws without me going over them again here.
Predaking/Bruticus was nice.

When MV talks about DW, I often find myself agreeing.
Vol 3 - Sunstorm stuff was enjoyable, but went on for far too long. The Insecticons stuff was crap, but then it picked up again. I liked the last issue but the next issue with fembots did not bode well.
Vol 2 - First half good, second half bad.
Vol 1 - Soulless.
MTMTE good.
Micromasters - gash.
I liked Armada, before the kids showed up.
So 50/50 most of the time.

again, a shame, but we will get over it.spiderfrommars wrote:When MV talks about DW, I often find myself agreeing.
*double tap
Sorry, the Sunstorm stuff was ****ing boring meaningless s***. I think even giving it a passing glance of approval is a diservice to both TFs and comics in general, especially the later, which is where it always seems to go wrong.
MTMTE was fine, but it ain't a comic, so.
With you there.Ozz wrote:I liked Transformers/G.I.Joe. Well, first five issues of it. The last one was really bad.
The last ish of MTMTE had some interesting reading in it.
Sunstorm saga should be preserved as an example of how not to write a comic book. It's bad, sorry.
I did like some bits of the G1 ongoing tho. But they tended to be scattered about, a couple of pages there, a couple of pages here...
Nothing else springs to mind.

Oh, oh, oh! I forgot about Transformers vs G.I Joe v1! That was some fookin' ace stuff, it was so diff from the regular DW-stuff that I forgot that it was made by them.
Altho I wasn't as put down by the ending as others, it did seem rushed, as if there was pieces of the story missing.
I liked most of the v3, including the Sunstorm-saga. Altho it could have been shortened by an issue or two.
I think the only thing that I now in hindsight liked in v1, was the intro with Megs, two fleshies out for a smoke and a piss, and the giant death-machine from outer space comes up behind them, steps on them, producing some much needed reddish slime.
EDIT: Silly brit-slang.

It's only logical...Best First wrote:the last issue was quite good.
the rest was pretty much sheeeite.
MV will have to be killed for liking the sunstorm stuff, shame, but sacrifices must be made.
MTMTE, well, I loved it especially the previously uncharacterised 1990 Micromasters bios.Of course there were characters who were butchered (CARNIVAC, for Primus' sake! ) but all in all, it was good.
-Besty, you gonna kill me too, cause liked Micromasters... Well, not everything. The main plot was rubbish, but I liked some of the charactersiation given to the Micros. Too bad the art looked worse then Jose Delbo trying to draw with his toes.

Yes, characterisation.
Any last requests?
I actually liked the Sunstorm storyline too.
Micromasters was awful (Sorry BB), But taking down Shockwave, was the final straw
I really, really loved the way Pat Lee drew Prime. Oh the joy of seeing those STUPID frames around the windows on his chest and the amazing Giraffe type neck, awesome, just awesome.
Pat Lee, if you go near Prime again or any other TF for that matter (Not to mention Generic looking, gold and red Metal suited super hero). Infact just drop the pencil!
That's a Pat Lee Streaker right

I just finished Labyrinths by Jorge Luis Borges and Wonderful Life by Stephen Jay Gould. On Monday I read Going Postal and yesterday I read Pyramids, both by Terry Pratchett. Currently reading Porno by Irvine Welsh, which I expect will last me until Saturday, depends how stoned I get and how many newspapers I pick up in the intervening time.spiderfrommars wrote:Sure. Hitch Hickers, etc, etc, Schindlers list, The Silmarillion, 253 (Which is a nice idea for a book, best not to read if recent events have troubled or affected you though). A few other bits and bobs.
I know it wasn't brilliant but it was certainly an improvement imo. V 1 was boring, V 2 was ruined by the old 6 issue rule and Micro Masters sucked tail pipes for pennies.

Frankly. Yes, there was waay too much "slag" jargon in it, but you have to look underneath. When was the last time you saw a DEcepticon (IE Motorhead) feel guilt over killing an Autobot?
And the 'little iacon' was in a way, showing us what life would'been before the war (sure it's stolen from the "Wreck an' Rule" cantina scene, yeah...)
Also I liked the interludes with the DEluxe Insecticons, Chop Shop was funny-
These are minor things, though, and the main plot SUCKED,,, especially since we never found out just what the hell were Countdown and Skystalker fighting for on Paradron (duh). And I'll never forgive Mick the sacrilege he's done with Shockwave's head...

Meh, I would be. People who like the Shitstorm saga need their brains inserting.Best First wrote:have the people who like the Sunstrom saga actually read...

not that i am trying to insult your intellects or anything.
honest.
bah.
Preferably into their rectum.
Logic dictates there is no place for such emotionalism in a Decepticon commander. Nor is there room for incompetence.

ooo, can i add that to the list of quotes that includes "I'm just glad to be getting a transfromers comic" when it comes to merrily accepting an inferior product?Josh wrote:if you cant enjoy one might as well enjoy the otherBest First wrote:yes, art is so much more important then plot.Yaya wrote:I too enjoyed the Sunstorm Saga, particulary Don's art.
Or i could aspire to comic books that actually thrive off the interaction between the writing and the art rather than looking back fondly on a company that largely didn't seem to understand how this equasion worked (look at Furman's own recent admissions on this front).
It seems rather inane to point out that Don's pictures are nice, because, well, obvioulsy... but in isolation that doesn't make it a good comic and it never will, especially not over the course of 6 issues.
In the name of Stan Lee
Story first
art second
forever and ever Amen.
