Am I crazy?

Post by jboyler » Mon Aug 08, 2005 11:48 pm

I'm at the end of my three-week Transformers marathon and I've watched the whole series from beginning to end. I've come to the conclusion that the post-movie episodes are generally better than season one and two, and I've also come away thinking that Rodimus Prime really wasn't all that bad.

A lot of people say he is a wimp and a whiner, but I don't really see it. There are only a handful of episodes where he complains about not measuring up to Optimus Prime, and I can't really say I blame him. While he doesn't have the same sort of grandfatherly wisdom OP has, Rodimus is still confident and capable 95% of the time. The other 5% of the time his doubts are handled very well.

In fact, 'The Hardest Burden to Bear' is one of the best episodes of the series.

So am I crazy for thinking Rodimus doesn't deserve the bad rap he gets?

Lets see... cartoon-wise I agree the post-movie stuff is better. And while I prefer Optimus to Rodimus, the cartoon did give Rodimus more characterisation. It's just a shame it was a bit inconsistent: one episode he'd conquer his demons, and then he'd be back to square one in the next. The way he becomes Hot Rod again in The Return of Optimus Prime is a bit lame.

But for every Burden Hardest to Bear there's one where they all become humans or something. Or go into Daniel's nightmares. Or meet aliens who sing harmonies. Or discover that Unicron was built by a goblin.

I think Headmasters is better, tbh, and I've only seen the awful dubbed version.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

Season 3 nearly burnt out my retinas. Seasons 1 and 2 were mostly gormless crap but I really found some of Season 3 so painful I had to turn it off

Headmasters/Victory etc. I found very interesting. I wish I had the subbed versions, as then I would be able to be entertained without laughing at the voices :D

Season 3 had one of the worst episodes of the series, but had one of the best as well. I like the movie cast, so that's make it better for me. I prefer Season 3 than 2, which in my eyes had too many episdoes with the same plot, and not many enough (if at all) ones that stood out.

Rodimus, I agree with spider. The reset buttons undoing all his acomplishmests and moral victories are annoying. What's worse, he could be really capable leader in total control of the situation in Fight or Flee, without a single whining moment, and still sulk in the corner week later.

I'm sorry but I own series 3+4 on dvd and it pains me each time to watch them. The animation swings from good to "we left our monkeys in charge" bad. Also the underlying theme of most of the eps is the "lets play together" of the bots and cons just gets plain annoying! Rodimus whilst being a capable leader never really seems like an authority figure. The characters were just really bad as well as were some of the ideas (intergalactic olympics anyone?!)

i tend to agree that the third season had some bad eps(carnage in c minor is sooo dorky!!) but the season two had worse ones(hoist goes hollywood? kremzeek?)but i believe given the time rodimus would have begun a geat leader (we all can have doughts about orselves)(thats why hes my second in command)
a rainbow is more than it seems, its happiness, wonder, excitement and dreams

Woah, don't get your hopes too high, divebomb. They're OK, and loads of the first-season bots turn up for cameos - there's a gestalt fight almost every episode - but it's hardly Shakespeare...

Season 3, like seasons 1 and 2 has some great episodes , but is mostly crap.

I have really enjoyed what I have seen of Headmasters so far, looking forward to the dubs.

Burden Hardest to bear... I wathced it a few weeks ago'cause i thought I'll give a break between someBatman TAS episodes...

It was, horrily pointless. Especially the japanese teacher giving Rodimus ancient wisdom, and the japanese president complaining about the Bots causing damage while fighting the Cons. Sure, call Godzilla if youthink he'd do better...

Plus, SCourge gets all-powerfull with the matrix and then a human (!!!) samurai defeats himwith a sword...

Galvatron was as much a drooling idiot as ever, andCyclonus still the loyal stooge. If anyone could tell me why Cyclonus serves such a leader whois clearly only a hindrance to the Con cause so loyally...

About the only thing in this episode that was fun were Dead End and Wildrider's little chase (I love those two) and the hilarious animation error that let Broadside be the same size as Predaking...

Personally I love all the cartoons, I have a special place in my heart for them, nostalgia and all that. Yes, they`re a bit bobbins, yes, they`re all pretty implausible, but hey, they`re part of my childhood and for that alone I`ll still watch them, along with Dogtanian and Visionaries, and the rest.
Logic dictates there is no place for such emotionalism in a Decepticon commander. Nor is there room for incompetence.
