me being annoying yet again

Over the last 25 years the Transformers have appeared in media from the exquisite to the scribbled and been licensed to the responsible and the... Pat Lee. Discussion of all the branches of TF media within!

Dirge, Ramjet and Thrust were all modified F-14s, iirc. Was was it 15s?

But yeah, they're pretty much based on real aircraft.
Grrr. Argh.

Weren't the original seekers F-15 Tomcats?

Image

Which would make the coneheads modified F-15s, though I don't know of any that really looked like that. I imagine Thrust is the most likely to exist in real life with the VTOL stuff, but I've never seen one...
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

Yup. That's what Transformers is really missing. Another repaint.

Thank you!

Ring first - my sister's pal and her boyfriend have an uncanny ability to turn up just as a meal starts. Then we have to share it with them - which reduces our original portions. :x
I told them to 'f*ck off' last week.

Well, it's not really that much of a stretch to imagine someone taking the Tomcat fuselage and applying delta-wing technology to it - Dirge & Ramjet.

As for Thrust...
I imagine Thrust is the most likely to exist in real life with the VTOL stuff, but I've never seen one...
...I'd imagine, knowing a spattering about aerodynamics and airframes, that having two massive holes in your wings would just about counter any airflow and nullify the resultant lifting effect. Thrust, therefore, has about as much chance of gaining altitude as a housebrick on a rollerskate.

F-14 Tomcat

Starscream etc were Eagles.

The Skystriker in GI Joe/AF was a Tomcat.

Sunstreaker is a touring custom Lambo Countach LP500S

(but with a huge blower mounted on the back. Oo-er.)

Hey, here's an interesting page I just re-found.

damm - too late, but Kingmob beat me to all the correct information.

Ill be surprised if in the new movie the seekers can be F-15's - why?

Because, in Independence day, the good guys (will smith) fly F-18's and are called the black Knights, the ace flying combat group of the US airforce. in reality the Black Knights are an F-15 troupe but the US gov wouldnt allow the use of the F-15 image in ID because they still belive in national security on the supposedly most deadly plane in the world today...

yay - crap fact me!

the Sunstreaker Lambo with the engine mod wasnt ever a production model - but im sure u could mod on what looks to be 2 giant super charger intakes.

as for thrust, theres never been a plane like it in concept or reality - as plane buff im pretty sure it wouldnt even work.

Dirge looks kinda like a Gripen to me... Those nose-stabiliser, for example.

Thrust, well there were some experimental planes with those VTOL wings, I believe, but not F-15s.

That Powerglide, tho, is quite poor. Much more like the Decepticon Micromaster Air Strike Patroller whose name I can't tag: Nightflight?

Tailwind?

Cool ID4 info. I had kinda thought the F-15s were outdated now, but saying that I think the Strike Eagle is still pretty top? The F-15E or something, I'm remembering this from a Tom Clancy book so it might well be horlicks.

I wonder what they would use instead? F-22 is an obvious choice, but there are non-G1 Starscreams based on that jet, so does that bugger that up?
The Joint Strike Fighter was my next thought, but I think Armada Thrust was based on that.
What's left? Hornet? They're quite cool looking.

What's a Gripen? I didn't know about that 'Dirge'-style Eagle till I went browsing. Kinda cool.

edit: nevermind, soz, found it. Gripen

Heh, remember Dreadwind on the letters page insisted he transformed into a Tornado?

Hmm, that Gripen looks like Stormcloud.

Yeah, and I believe the G2 Skyscorcher Eagle Eye (green plane) is an actual Gripen...

I do indeed. Bristol, England - not more than a few minutes drive for me.

Hence the BAe Systems logo appearing on the Gripen website.

:D

Oh, sorry Predabot. I didn't realise you actually meant "where the Gripen concept was orignally conceived, and the aircraft eventually assembled..."
