Preview art from IDW Transformers #0

Denyer brought the link to TFA.

I like it, people at TFormers apparently not, but I don't care. ;) Script's more important to me than art anyway, but this looks nice and clear, which is quite enough for me at this point.

The head shots seem to take cues from both Marvel (Bumblebee) and Dreamwave (Runabout/Runamuck), and the page art is brighter and cleaner than what DW churned out. Liking it so far. :)

I like the way they seem more painted and shaded then the flat cell look of DW, much more realistic looking then the DW colour

I'm withholding judgement until I actually see the finished product.

(Wow... there's a novel idea...)

There are niggley things I dislike about the robot heads (Oppy's antennae) and certain aspects of the color scheme (a-bit-too-yellow-faced B'bee), but overall, I think this thing might work out.

Odd choices for Decepticons, but otherwise looks good.

That's kind of a draw for me personally.

Muchas gracias to Mob for the Sig, proving why he's called 'King'.

The "i" in "Señior" from "Señior's Covenant" is intentional and part of a stupid & cheesy inside joke from '02. Thank you for your concern.

Hmm... I was gonna say something along the lines of: "What previews? The photos are so bad I can only see a big blur." about these previews, since I've previously seen the same pics, but with an absolutely abhorrent quality.

Now, these look better, you can make some things out. Looks kinda cool, more main-stream coloring, and I suppose the DW-colours were a bit too far out at times. Unique look they had tho.

Looks prematurely satisfying. I'll reserve judgement until we get some real preview-art.

Are these the same pics except resized?

The colouring reminds me of DC's recent Space Ghost.

Not bad, although I will still reserve my opinion as they're only head shots but storyline will still be the main winner or loser for me.

But I'm going to buy the first few regardless ;)

Wow . . . bye, bye Anime-inspired giant robots, huh?

Hello Marvel 1980's style giant robots. It's been a while, It's been a while . . . . .

I like the analogy to a painted animation cell. The DW artists would make decent painted backgrounds but fill up the page (sometimes very awkwardly) with plain, flat-colored robots. They stood out from the page and did not seem to be 'integrated' with the background at all.

Even worse, you could not see the pencil work through all the thick colors. I prefer to actually see the art in a comic, and I would have appreciated a sketchier, pencilled look. The DW comics didn't have a human touch, and you might even think the whole thing was computer rendered (much like the Energon cartoon).

This is the second sin for which I have never been able to forgive DW. I don't understand why anyone would actively attempt to imitate manga art. I enjoy comics where I can see the artist's work, not ones where I see the artist imitate someone else's. Besides, compare the imitation-anime characters in Energon to those in an actual manga (Battle Angel, Akira, Blade of the Immortal) and you can how pathetic they are.

(Again, though, that's comparing an imitation to an authentic artist)
