"Right now, we're thinking there will be five Autobots and five Decepticons," says Kurtzman. "But you know the ones everybody knows like Optimus Prime and Megatron and Starscream and Soundwave and Bumblebee. R.C. is gonna be in it."
Note after stating 'you know the ones everybody knows like', then the well-knowns, it's simply said (entirely separate from the previous statement), 'R.C. is gonna be in it'.
"...but I think there will be a lot of CGI."
Y'think?
"[We've got] All the comics and we've got an office full of toys," says Kurtzman.
*Covenant hears something that may simply be the most promising thing he's ever heard about this film so far...*
Orci laughs, "Who knew all that time as a kid, we weren't wasting [our time]. [In a motherly voice]: 'Stop watching all those cartoons!' (Laughs) I didn't have the toys, but we used to watch the stuff. I remember seeing it after school."
*...only to have it dashed the paragraph afterward.*

Hmm, yup. Still where I was.

The "i" in "Señior" from "Señior's Covenant" is intentional and part of a stupid & cheesy inside joke from '02. Thank you for your concern.

And when he says "DW Comics," he means Micromasters, anything involving Sunstorm, and a picture of a naked chick Pat Lee drew for him on a napkin.

Say it SC...

Also I don't like this:
Although the writing duo hasn't yet finished the script, they have figured out the characters and are now fleshing out the story.
Surely, when picking other characters, it would be better to have the gist of the story first and then pick from the hundreds of TFs that would fit those characters. If they have R.C. :sheba: and have to write the story to fit her, then it's likely to be rather dump. They should think about what they need, and THEN pick the TFs to suit. If you need an engineer to build stuff, you'd pick Wheeljack; a homesick complainer, Huffer, Gears or Mirage. Don't force personalities onto established characters.

Megatron: "We need to create a sonic boom to stun our foes."
(Starscream looks about for Thundercracker)
Starscream (shrugging): "Okay... I'll do it."

They won't have to. If its gonna be a movie about one boy and his amazing transforming car (Bumblebee), with a cast of 'other' amazing transforming robots, then I'm sure we won't even touch on characterisation. :x

I'm starting to think this is gonna be a bit like 'Small Soldiers', but with big soldiers. Character-traits will equal 'their amazing abilities', and no more, probably.

Here's 3 things I'm sure of when this movie is finished:

1. We're going to hate it.
2. The cartoon fans are going to love it.
3. The rest of the world is going to laugh at the TF fandom.

Can I borrow your Tardis?

The problem is that the movie will be closer in media medium to the cartoon than the comics. It makes sense that the filmakers will go in that direction.
Comics have the luxury of thought bubbles for internal dialogue, and the time to take to develop characters properly, and many other things that the cartoon - and the film - would be hard-pressed to emulate.

I hope I'm eating my words when the movie finally does come out, but I suspect I'll be going hungry.

Can I have the window seat? I think we're on the same boat.

No problem - I'm rather tall and like the aisle seat for the leg room. I'll also be near the exit at the cinema in case the new movie assualts my senses with its probable stink.

I never said I was on a boat though. Perhaps a small scooter.

Pssh. You guys need to lighten up. You'll NEVER make two years with that kind of attitude. You'll be putting lipstick on Optimus Prime and chanting "Murphy wants you to be pretty....you be pretty for Murphy...." by May.
We're going to hate it.

Maybe so. Maybe we shouldn't expect so much. I mean, it's NOT going to be as bad as the cartoon. Megatron will NOT unleash Kremzeek. Windcharger and Bumblebee will NOT wear lab coats.

At the same time, I don't think it's going to be a big player at the Oscars, either.

Yes, it will be bad, but at the same time (and maybe I'm just the naive, idealistic one{wouldn't be the first time}) it's a frickin' TRANSFORMERS MOVIE. A live action Transformers movie. And there will be advertising on Burger King cups. And whenever your friends go and see the movie, you will be the first one they come to, to say something like "Hey, what did you think about the movie?", or "So how did Optimus Prime get to be the leader?", or even, "Hey, I liked that Jazz guy, he was really cool." And you may think, "It sucked, Doesn't matter wrong continuity, and that's not the Jazz I know," but still, the point will be, your friends and family will be drawn into your little love, and you'll be able to share something with people in your real life that maybe you only get to share in places like this right now.

See, the problem is that we comic fans see Transformers as valid science fiction, not a nostalgia fix or toys with a cartoon. Which leads into...
The cartoon fans are going to love it
Yes they will. You have to understand, the cartoon fan is a simple person. He has one overriding goal in life: To see the toys he enjoys in motion. It may be animation, or it may be CGI, but the point is, it's moving by itself. And because this movie will inevitably involve seemingly real Transformers interacting in reality, they will enjoy it immensely. That's all they really desire out of the movie to truly have fun with it, and as Joe Paolantonio says in The Matrix, ignorance is truly bliss.
The rest of the world is going to laugh at the TF fandom
You think so? You honestly think we're worse than Star Wars/Star Trek fans? The hardcore comic book fans who loved Spiderman or X-Men? Or the almost Shakespearish tragedy of the Daredevil or Punisher fan? In this world of furries and cosplay and Pokemon, can anyone truly blame us for liking some bad ass toy robots? I mean, you don't have to be a TF fan to look at an Alternator and say, "That's pretty sweet." And even if the movie DOES come off horrible, I still think we as a fandom won't really be given a hard time because I think in the mind of pop culture, Transformers is 85% toyline, 10% cartoon and 5% comic. We're seen as people who like the toys, and what is written or told to sell the toys is on some degree inconsequential to us.

Anyway, just throwing some thoughts out on the subject, giving a rebuttal, playing Devil's Advocate, drinking and smoking while typing, yada yada yada.

The third thing I suspect might be true, but that's nothing I care about. The first two might still go either way and I wouldn't be surprised if they did.

Like with IDW upcoming comics, I reserve my judgement until I finally see the final product.

Hell, the movie will kick ass to many fans, and seeing those live-action TFs stomping about will be enough for me 'cos I KNOW the CGI will be top notch.
It's just the writer in me that knows the story will be lacking, whatever happens.

Or not?

Just not going to get my hopes up.
