For...no apparent reason...I'd like to discuss Straxus with y'all.
So, was he a smart leader? A brutal overlord? A small-minded tyrant? Were the 2nd Gen Decepticons responsible for his gaining power or was it the Wreckers' assassination of Trannis? Did he know Jhiaxus?
Best moments? Worst moments?
The best "evil" Decepticon we've seen?

I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

Straxus was cool imho. he was big, bad and um, black?
he might not seemed to have acheived very much, but he was keeping the autobots splintered and underground, those foolish enough to come up for air were quite literally slagged.
interesting to note that the autobot resistance didn't really gain any footholds until after straxus bought the bullet (or interspatial warpy thing). and his time as a head in a jar brought out his cunning even more, i mean, who, in their right mind would have thought of trying to possess megatron? especially with the back up plan of having a clone of him built just incase he couldn't possess the real deal? woah, that's pretty far out. and it worked (more or less) too!!
evil genius, that's what Straxus was.
long may he rest in pieces.

Watch yo'mouth!
I'm just talkin' 'bout Straxus.
We can dig it.
Straxus? Awesome character. Too bad a toy was never made of him. I think I'd have bought that. His alt. mode was what Megatron's should have been in my humble opinion.
Muchas gracias to Mob for the Sig, proving why he's called 'King'.
The "i" in "Señior" from "Señior's Covenant" is intentional and part of a stupid & cheesy inside joke from '02. Thank you for your concern.

Straxus got loads done, whether it was regaining the upper hand in the civil war after the complacency of Trannis' latter reign, overseeing the construction of the space bridge to establish contact with Earth, or using the smelting pools to further energise the 'con war effort with supplies.
I also think he was tyrannical and ever so slightly psychotic, and I think of him as akin to your average Nazi war criminal. Nasty.
I also like the way he wasn't even a bit scared of Megatron even when reduced to a head in a fishbowl.
Worst moment: being blown up by Blaster. His overconfidence was his weakness...
Jhiaxus refers to Straxus as small minded. I think the majority of the TF race were, and it was the G2 'cons who led the way in colonisation. They may have departed to much fanfare, but I suspect it was something of a 'dark age' and they were not missed. Jhiaxus I think would have been rising through the ranks at the time and uninterested in challenging Straxus for leadership. Or he might have been 'a small cog in a larger machine' as Prime once refers to him as I think.

Straxus was aiight. Odd mug, tho.
As far as Jhaxius, I always thought of him in terms of his exit as Fort Max's corollary. Both pretty powerful, respected guys, probably on the fringes (pacifism and imperialism) of their respective sides, who probably had enough cult of personality to get some followers to go with 'em. I would think Straxus would know of him like a General would know about an up and coming Lieutenant.

Oooooooooooooh...
Who's conquering Cybertron from a fish bowl?
Stra-xus ty-rant!
Becoming a Megatron via a clone?
Stra-xus ty-rant!
I'll stop.

it does beg the question, if he went to all the bother of having a clone of megatron built and the equipment to tranfer his mind into either the real megatron or the clone, why not, for pity's sake, just build him a new body?
because, he's your typical bond stylee Evil Genius (tm)... can't do _anything_ the simple way!

not very fuel efficient is it?spiderfrommars wrote:Regarding the fishbowl thing, I'd say someone completely loyal to him (Ratbat?) salvaged his head and had him attached to a life support system for the good of the Decepticon cause.
actually, it might have been very fuel efficient, why bother fueling a full body (especially one of straxus' size/power) when just a head will do?

Straxus was really after Megatron's body (f'narr) so I think we can assume his fishbowl days were limited. I can imagine Ratbat totalling up the benefits of keeping Straxus on and the cost saving of turning him off.
I still feel sorry for the Decepticon who was turned into Straxatron. He effectively died when the Straxus/Megatron personality kicked in, didn't he?
And Straxus himself had the weirdest TF head I think I've seen. A sort of cross between Nite Owl and a cobra...?

Perhaps there was some feedback from the Space Bridge or something and it so damaged Straxus' brain module taht it couldn't be removed from his noggin for fear of killing him?
And maybe they couldn't just build him a new one to 'transfer' over to, as perhaps it wouldn't work if the body recieving his mind was not already 'alive'.
Or yeah, perhaps he just really had this disturbing pyschological complex about Megatron, and wanted to so completey 'beat' him that he was manically driven to possess his body and do whatever he wanted with it. Oo-er missus.
Straxus was cool, he was highly accomplished and was both scary and not entirely dumb-as-a-post. He must have had some strategic acumen to do all he did, especially when his lieutenants are the caliber of someone like Octane, as well as influencing everyone with his very strong personality.
That Ratbat was a crafty one. Calling him 'Lord Straxus' and 'Megatron' like that. Nice.

I'm sorry for resurrecting this long dead thread, but I couldn't resist, seeing as I've drawn a picture of this long ago, without even knowing of this board back then.... Great minds think alike, I guess.Autobloke wrote:His troops must have liked him enough to rescue his head and not just boot it into the smelting pools.
