Thanks to Denyer as well for the swift design job.
I'd gather he thinks it's quite good going by that. I'm sure IDW are well aware of Dreamwave's lack of clarity in that department.

Did you think I would say "I am pretty bad."?Dead Head wrote:One question I would have asked is how good he thinks his art, in terms of clear panel storytelling, is.
If storytelling is your concern, you could check out some sequential samples on my website, eventhough most of them are over 3 years old.

Sorry for the shameless plug.

I dunno, I thought maybe a "man, I wish I could blob out Marshmellow TFs like the greats". Recent numbnuts would adore you for your honesty.E.J.Su wrote:Did you think I would say "I am pretty bad."?Dead Head wrote:One question I would have asked is how good he thinks his art, in terms of clear panel storytelling, is.
Nice. The humans have the more updated look which isn't top-notch in my preference but can look good and absolutely does in your work. I guess I'm just more for the look of people like in that Megatron cover shot recently presented. But I can totally live with this. And there's nothing wrong in shamelessly plugging yourself. Just wash the cork afterward ffs. Oh, that one shot over the city is fab.E.J.Su wrote:If storytelling is your concern, you could check out some sequential samples on my website, eventhough most of them are over 3 years old.

Sorry for the shameless plug.
Since it's now fairly apparent the public names for IDW do take note of what's said on TransFans, all I'd like to add is thanks for the notice.
Muchas gracias to Mob for the Sig, proving why he's called 'King'.
The "i" in "Señior" from "Señior's Covenant" is intentional and part of a stupid & cheesy inside joke from '02. Thank you for your concern.
Having looked at all those pages E.J. , I'm reassured that you've got what it takes, clear-storytelling-wise. Cool stuff. It's good that you've surfaced here to directly address our ponderings like this too. Again, props.E.J.Su wrote:If storytelling is your concern, you could check out some sequential samples on my website, eventhough most of them are over 3 years old.

On a separate point, I can't say that I like 'cute manga moon-eyed girly-posed pixie-nosed babes', like in the following image. It turns my stomach, frankly. But that's a general style I hate, nothing specific to you, Su:

As a contrast to the above point, I've seen your gallery also contains less manga-fanboy-ish images of women too, which is great. This one caught my eye. The woman looks relatively normal, face-wise, the high-wide shot of the first panel is a very nice contrast to the other three panels, and the investigator climbing under the police-line is well posed:

Simply good action panels here. Very promising for "The Transformers". I love the ax-kick in the 3rd panel:

^ I don't think we've anything to worry about on the subject of framing.

Great interview guys, hello E.J.
I've just been re-reading DD GI Joe/TF #4 and I can really see the industrial influence now, especially when Shockwave is being repaired by the Decepticon medic. All the Transformers look great in this issue, though I think the best thing by far is the large number of generic Decepticons about the place. More of this please!

I'd like to see a few more pieces of art with vehicles and machines in to get a better idea of whether anything dynamic can be done with vehicle mode TFs. And I don't particularly like the manga human look either - it was one of the things that royally got on my nips about the DW stuff.
Still, at least the guy can draw, eh?

Yeah, as incredible as the sequential action is in Su's black & white Spider-Man stuff, the style of the humanoid form makes Spidey look like a caricature or a child. Still, it's more a thing I dislike rather than hate, there is art of similar style that takes it to extremes, and the fact is with some proper colouring it could still be decent. If Furman's story is great, Su can properly capture the look with some of those gorgeous TFs, and the action as well with his apparent knack for sequentials, I'll be a happy camper with the style of human used.Autobloke wrote:And I don't particularly like the manga human look either - it was one of the things that royally got on my nips about the DW stuff.
Still like that fleeing crowd on the Megatron cover though...

I was so impressed on closer reading of this issue. Almost every page has another "generic" Decepticon on it, yet each is individually designed as if it were a proper character. It makes the TF universe so much more complete and whole, instead of the DW-esque showcasing of the major players and then using Japanese TFs to fill in any non-speaking parts...Señior's Covenant wrote:Yes, there never was enough of that.Metal Vendetta wrote:More of this please!
