At last, I'm watching Beast Machines. May contain spoilers.

Forgive the ignorance, but does anyone know if these are dubbed and available for purchase here in the states? Sub-titled would work as well.Rebis wrote:All other episodes qwith Beast Wars in the title are Beast Wars II and Beast Wars Neo, both are Japanese productions.
Muchas gracias to Mob for the Sig, proving why he's called 'King'.
The "i" in "Señior" from "Señior's Covenant" is intentional and part of a stupid & cheesy inside joke from '02. Thank you for your concern.
No idea about dubbed, but my only experience with the odd few I've seen has been with, what appear to be, quite good subbing.Señior's Covenant wrote:Forgive the ignorance, but does anyone know if these are dubbed and available for purchase here in the states? Yep, they're there for whoever wants to borrow them. Got a few glitches to iron out of the discs, and your DVD player/PC needs to be able to play DVD+R. I'm off to japan for the whole of August, so I thought instead of gathering dust, people who have never seen B.M get the chance to. Yes, I do live in Blighty, Leicestershire. B.M season two is very good, has a lot more humour than Season One and a lot more Megatron. I'll get the discs sorted by next week, just make sure you carry on this thread and pass the discs round the community.

Glad you spotted this Scraplet. I meant to PM you and mention it but I - well - forgot. I've still got me vids, so I'm okay.
Nice board spirit adam - but I suppose you can make as many copies as you like now, so no risk of losing them in the post (did anyone watch those recent 'Dispatches' shows?), whereas I only have one set of vids and I don't want to lose them, or whether they'd copy well considering the age of the tapes. As such - no shame on my part.
And now you have to give us YOUR thoughts on BM, Scraplet.
Like 'Bloke said, thats really cool board spirit. Do you want the discs to make their way back to you at some point, or shall I send them on to the next person who asks?adam.creighton wrote:pass the discs round the community.
Thanks for the thought anyway! I tend to only check the BW board occasionally, 'cos not much tends to happen. Thats why it took me a few days.Autobloke wrote:Glad you spotted this Scraplet. I meant to PM you and mention it but I - well - forgot.
As soon as I've seen 'em, I'll let you know!! If I can convince my son to watch them with me instead of all six 'Land before Time' movies (his current obsession), then I'll probably get through them quicker!Autobloke wrote:And now you have to give us YOUR thoughts on BM, Scraplet.

My ebay-obssessed wife, who is usually quite accurate with her postage-price guesses reckons about £3 (not sure what the coversion rates are; about US$5 ) for a DVD in a case.......Señior's Covenant wrote: How much do you think it would run to get those over here in Texas and back?
She recently got a double DVD recently from the States for £4 P&P.....

Series one is all ready, the sound is completely out of sinc on episode 6, cant do anything about it unfortunately, but the rest of the eps are fine. Having a problem with episode ten on season two, wont convert to MPEG so might have to put it on a VCD, but the rest of the eps are fine. Can do first 14 eps of Galaxy Force aswell, if ive got time.

Cheers mate, you are a staradam.creighton wrote:Scraplet, please e-mail me you adress by 12.00 tomorrow so I can post out the Beast Machines DVD's.
I've just dropped you an email.
Did you say you were off to janpan for a month? Hope you have a great time. Let us know how it was when you get back.....
OK, I've received the DVDs - Cheers Adam
I've watched the first series now (two consecutive evenings of my wife giving me condesending smiles and sniggering at some of the more over-the-top dialogue as she passes - she even tried to appeal to my carnal desires in order to tempt me away.......but I digress )
Initial impressions; the overall look is fantastic. I love the animation, more realistic and less 'polygony' than Beast Wars, but I suppose that reflects the inprovements in technology in the intervening years. It seems a little jerky at times - like there are not enough frames per second or something......but thats a minor complaint. I like the whole premise of the plot - I know a lots of transfans are critical of it, but the whole organic origin works for me.
The way the plot is revealed is very refreshing - at first I thought I must have missed an episode. The suspense is great....
I love the character development in Optimus and Cheetor. Some of the most mature charaterisation in any TF continuity IMO. Optimus' guilt leading to bouts of rage; his hippyish spiritual side coming out; these things effecting his ability to function a a leader - all well scripted and none of it feeling like a forced plot device. You get a gradual feel for the change in both Optimus and Cheetor as the series progresses......real character development in a 'toon
Cheetor's headstrong nature and cockyness / arrogance tempered by his maturation into a potential leader - I love the way the changes in Primal provide the need / catalyst for Cheetors development....this is really effective storytelling. It's driven by characters not situations, if you get what I mean.......a real rarity.
BM Cheetor is what G1 HotRod / Rodimus Prime should have been....
The introduction of Rhinox/Tankor into the equation is a cool twist. Its nice to be rooting for Megatron for once (he's behind you! )
There are a couple of episodes that are obvious fillers which don't contribute to the overall series plot, which could have been better or binned. Most notably, the one where Rat Trap feels he is being unappreciated and goes to Megatron, where he is equiped with what appears to be 'The Wrong Trousers' from Wallace and Gromit Very poor. It could be reformated as a G1 'toon plot. But i won't let one or two bad apples spoil the applecart.
I hate BW Silverbolt. He's not even tongue-in-cheek, just crap. He's only cropped up for about 30 seconds, when BA temporarily revived him, but that was enough to make my heart sink. Please tell me he doesn't make a full comeback in BM series two . Well I'll find out tonight.......
Its nice to see the Matrix given it 'mysticism' back, but vector sigma...... . Ah well, other than sticking it firmly in the G1 'toon continuity it's well handled, so I should't be too critical for purely fanboy reasons. But after all the BW references to Primus, we get Vector Sigma
Series 2 tonight

Hi Adam! I've not quite finished with the DVDs yet, cos my player is broke (bloody children)............up to episode 10 of series two.
And, Autobloke, if he not back then he's probably not able to afford to be online for much longer than that sentence. He sent me an email a week or two back and mentioned that the cost of logging-on from Japan was crippling!! He also mentioned all the cool TF stuff he was seeing in Japan to make you very jealous, 'Bloke!
I think he's away for a month.......is that right, Adam, if you're still there?!? If so he should be a way for another week or so, I think.

Having finally got a new DVD player I've fished watching the series now.
Wow, those last 3 episodes are fantastic - real edge of the seat stuff. If it wasn't for the slightly lame resilution to Meg's and Primal's final showdown, I'd put it in the same league as 'the Agenda'.
Meg new body was a good twist - I didn't see that coming.
And I was happy that they kept a lid on Silverbolt until the end.
I've no problem with the concept of the end itself (which is the part most BM haters seem to criticise), but I do think it could have been handled better. Its like they didn't bother to put much through into what a techno-organic cybertron would actually be.
Overall very enjoyable. Cheers Adam - you are a star and I own you one!!
Right! Who would like the DVDs next? First come first served!!!
