Something I don't remember/don't get. What was the deal with Cosmos' alt form?

Well in the Marvel US 'Return to Cybertron' story, Cosmos' pals Powerglide, Warpath, Blaster, Beachcomber, Seaspray et al were all shown with Cybertronian alt. modes. Cosmos was still a UFO, so it could well be a Cybertronian design that wasn't amended for whatever reason (lets face it, its not a great disguise on Earth).

I love Cosmos, he is one of those Transformers with nothing going for him whatsover, I find that endearing.

He is fat, slow, ugly, weak, is forced to spend his time orbiting planets alone, gets shot down and beaten up on at every opportunity..

What a guy!

Yeah I recall the pic. It's infamous. I just didn't understand why he would've ended up with that mode given the whole EXPLORE, EXPLORE! REPAIR, REPAIR! thing. Maybe he was ejected into space during the battle or something before the crash? I don't know.

I know the pic, its an early 1960's style flying saucer with windows in the side.

Maybe Teletran 1 got confused...

Maybe, as he always seemed to be a later 'recruit' the Autobots obviously figured out that the machines on Earth weren't sentient so the whole 'dsiguise to blend in with the population' bit went by the board. I like to think they also spent time studying our radio transmissions (TV and radio) so they might be aware of the pop view of UFOs and thought even tho it was fictional it might make a nifty alt mode for Cosmos as he's a space craft anyway and it beats making him look like Voyager II ^_^ [/craazy]

So it woldn't be the supposed 1957ish saucer that supposedly disintegrated the squadron of USAF jets that happened to get too close to it*, then?

i like cosmos form it maybe worthless as disquise but it good for deep space(and ya gotta love the voice) but i do agree that whoever designed the toy used that pic for referance.
