Over the last 25 years the Transformers have appeared in media from the exquisite to the scribbled and been licensed to the responsible and the... Pat Lee. Discussion of all the branches of TF media within!

It's cool that you've appeared here, Ryall. It makes business sense, I guess, to get the core fans on your side with 'small things' like this (though I imagine that this flurry of posts across different Transformers fan boards isn't a feasible thing to maintain once things get up and running more, which is only to be expected).

20 years ago, Simon Furman didn't 'write down' to his young readers, and in turn made the original Marvel UK/US stories the most intelligent, deep and interesting continuity. With your new TF continuity, it would be nice to see it continue the 'spirit'/characterization of that Marvel comic.

Oh, and throw in a token background 'easter egg' picture of the cartoon character "Nightbird" to appease the barbaric hordes of chest-beating, pea-brained cartoon fans. (No offense meant to any taste-crippled, cartoon-loving, style-over-substance, huge-manga-sig-posting neanderthals reading this!)

Good fortune with your Transformers comics Ryall.

.
To help IDW succeed, I've concocted a plan:
---------------------------------------------
Step 1: Publish a monthly Transformers comic, on time.
Step 3: Profit!

The "i" in "Señior" from "Señior's Covenant" is intentional and part of a stupid & cheesy inside joke from '02. Thank you for your concern.

Osku speaks the truth. There is no such thing as comic-stores here. The only time I've ever seen one was when I went to Swiss for vacation a few weeks ago.

As far as I know, the only place where it acctually exists comic-stores are indeed in the biggest cities, Stockholm and Gothenburg. And those two cities are about 100 (hint: more than 70 english miles...) metric miles away from me, I believe.

So, that Egmont can't publish any stuff because the f*ckin' c*nts that are the general populace here hates TF makes me sad.

On the other hand, the lack of a direct-market here in sweden is in my view over all good for the small comics-market here. And it's encredibly convenient. :)

Trying to funny? They don't hate transformers. More like people just don't know or care.

And to be honest I can't blame them. I couldn't recommend the book's six first issues even for my friends who read comics. :(

Exactly. The test of a comic is whether it's a good comic, not whether it's "good for a TF comic."

I suppose you're quite correct.

Still hurts tho. And BF, I'm trying, but then there's always some slag that shows up that makes it all worse again. :(

As I can't get sleep, let's mention it here as well.

DW editor Dan Taylor has posted at least on TFArchive and Allspark forums and asked for opinions on favourite stories from old Marvel US & UK comics.

By Taylor:
" Marvel (US & UK) Comic Question

Hey Gang -

This is where I'm going to start asking you some questions.

First off... In order to get a feel for what you dig along the lines of Transformers comics I'd like to know what issues/stories are some of the favorites when it comes to the Marvel titles - both the US and UK.

Thanks in advance."

AND

New interview and/or article on Comic Book Resources.

Little snippet:

"The first book will be called, simply, 'The Transformers.' "

Simple, effective. I like.

Yeah, you guys are far sharper than me when it comes to this stuff, particularly as you won't be doing it at 4am...
"On some TF message boards, we've seen complaints about restarting the continuity again, but it would honestly take an 'Avengers Forever'-style maxiseries to even make sense of all the current continuities. And even then, we'd never make everyone happy. I liken it to the James Bond movies-- every movie, the character and situations are essentially the same, even if certain details change. They're just focused on telling good stories (well, they used to be…)
All very true.
"When I was nine or ten and reading comics, I enjoyed them as much as anyone ten or twenty years older, mostly because they were challenging and didn't talk down to me.
Yes.

Right, time to go grab a few hours...

If I understood that correct, awesome. Good to hear they're pulling inspiration from the more quality material.

Yes.

Man I'm really liking this dude.
"And since we'll be in market first, we're obviously 'canon' here, not them!"
An attitude I prefer.

they are making a much more promising start than DW ever did.

Rather than the nonsense - we are fans ourselves that DW spouted every five seconds they are actually using teh online community.

ok, maybe it won't lead to anything, buts its promising.

I acctually just became cautiously optimistic to mr. Ryall and his associates. :)

It's back! Cause the fan-community demanded it! The Transformers! We've waited more than 10 years for it's return. Hopefully the format will be slightly different when it's published in brittain, so that they'll have to use the good ol' -. Trans-formers ahoy. Order might just be restored after all. ;)

Now, there's so much good material, what on earth should the community be presenting to them, and what should they not? I'll leave that one to the more skilled ones here.

Such unnecessary excitement over such a small thing.

Hmm, a creator that cares about the product and actually takes some time to interact with fans in a fun fashion without condescension.

Too good to be true. I'm beginning to suspect this is all a plot by Bicycle Pump Pat. :lurk:

OK guys, sorry if this sounds stupid, but I was moving so Ijust missed all this hubub about the comic license..

So who are IDW? Never heard about them before... are they a new company? If not what comics did they publish before?

I'm glad Simon is back on the comic. Hopefully this new continuity will be finished properly when the time comes, unlike DW's not-too-memorable timeline.

They're a 'proper' small comic company, whose books tend to fly under the radar.
Apparently best known for their license titles such as CSI, 24, Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid, giving Ashley Wood and Steve Niles a lot of work and high prices on some of their serials.

Seem to be rather nice chaps. :)

Since I wasn't paying attention to TF at the time, what exactly was the initial fan reaction to DW and Pat Lee?

Many seemed not to know who they were, IIRC. And there was general rejoice, but that was more because of comics being back after eight years.

Also Pat had done a v nice piece for Wizard which preceded the whole thing, so at the time people were quite keen.

skeptecism started to creep in once the preview and issue 1 arrived if i recall.
