That's quite correct. With a big-arse cannon that looks a bit like megs Fusion-cannon. (Funny that altho they state that Prime is the only one that has a fire-power potential comparable to Megs he doesn't utilize a weapon as monstrous as his for the most part. Must be that autobot-thingy with peace-lovin')
I also believe that one of the reasons that they change appearance several times troughout the comic was because the guys at Marvel kept getting new model-sheets of what the characters should look like. Anybody notice that horrendous toy-accurate(??) version of 'Cybertronian' Bumblebee? Ugh!
Don is indeed the best thing to happen to TF since creamed corn.

Am I the only one that feels that Senior isn't the best TF-artist ever? I was always more of a Wildman-man myself. The Shockers - Scorps fight for instance shows that he can indeed convey much motion.
Heck, I even like Delbo! I think I might be the only one in existence that does that...of TF-fans that is. He's worked on quite a few DC & Marvel titles.

I believe all the early artists had to go on WAS the toy models, or at least that's in fact what they went with.
What's the exact release of the comic vs. cartoon?
I remember hating Wildman when he first showed up on the scene, and then swearing that he and Senior were the only ones that should EVER draw TF by the end.

I have always wondered, who came up with the idea to change the designs of the TF characters from toy to cartoon/comic. Obviously, the cartoon and comic were marketing tools to sell the toys. I don't see how changing the designs so much would help sell toys that didn't look at all like what they see on the television.
I remember being very upset when I picked up a Bumblebee figure only to find out that it looked nothing like the cartoon.
Of course, in hindsight it worked and the comic/cartoon marketing really did work. Maybe kids are just ignorant, huh?

I think Floro Dery said that the animation models for the characters came over from Japan reasonably similar to how they ended up onscreen and he only had to simplify them a bit. I could be wrong about that, but I still think he's the one who translated the designs to the anim mods that got used.
The pics in the Generations book....are they the original designs?
The pages in the comics aren't produced in reading order. I believe the Marvel guys were given the anim models late, and had already started work on the comic. Which is why there are a lot of toy-based designs scattered about in the first couple of issues. Chages to animation model was also reflected in the comics, for instance in Megatron IIRC.

Wildman's art was certainly the most striking...the way he would include battle damage (and carry it over from issue to issue) and the detail he put into his TFs was unprecidented.
Senior's work was a lot more blocky and...simplistic, for lack of a better word. That's not meant to belittle him...he did a great job conveying emotions and his use of shadows was masterful. It just wasn't as pretty as Wildman's stuff.
Delbo actually had talent, so I'm left to assume he just couldn't be bothered most of the time (possibly because he knew Yomtov was going to ruin anything he produced anyway...). I mean, his work on Rhythms of Darkness or Totalled is miles and miles better than a lot of the dreg he produced.Heck, I even like Delbo! Yeah, Meg's head design changed quite a lot early on before settling on the bucket we know and love. I have a hoodie with his original model on the front, weird head and all...KingMob wrote:Changes to animation model was also reflected in the comics, for instance in Megatron IIRC.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

At first Wildman wasn't so hot, especially because the comics looked like a two-year old was doing the inking. Later on, Wildman returns (the issue following the battle with Unicron) and for the rest of the series his art is Grade A stuff. The last few issues have the best art of the entire series, and the best writing of any TF series.

i think GS just pips it for me, Wildman is close tho.
Both are better comic artists than any of the new crop though, of that i am certain.
Of the new boys i think Guido and Raiz are the best at telling stories with their art, even though Don is obvioulsy the best technically.
I was realy enthused when Guido said he would like to emulate their more paired down renderings in his recent interview - i hate this notion that mech art has to contain **** loads of detail. Get the basics right first.
Plus it was nice to see someone actually acknowledge these artists massive contribution.
what was this topic about again?

Dunno, my friend bought it for me from the Glastonbury festival...most probably a bootleg or something...Darth Aux wrote:I almost bought that t-shirt (is it made by W.K.E?)
AW's Scorponok vs. Shockwave fight is awesome. Then again EOE is probably the best single issue of any TF series...
