Ever tried to get a friend/family member/lover etc. into TFs? What did you show them? How did it go?

I've tried getting my best budd into TF for some years ago. With the help of incessant programming, such as downloading the cartoon and making him watch it, and hyping the comic-continuities and the super-revival that came with Armada, I've had some limited success.
He now accepts it as cool, and can enjoy it's media on a good level. I'll probably never be able to turn him into a die-hard fan tho.
My next project is getting him hooked on comics, wich is working splendidly.
You simply gotta find some pop-phenomenon that they enjoy (in his case: Street Fighter) and supply it for free. Then follow it up with nothing but easily accessable, yet top of the slice, things like JLA/Avengers.

I tried with my friend but he wasn't interested...
However I had more success with my boss, I've shown him comics and I usually take some toys into the office to sit on my comp.
There was a long time when I run out of space at home and had to store my Overlord in the office... my boss was simply amazed of it!
And when I told him how much money I make on selling TFs he accepted it as a "serious" hobby.

"I've come to believe you are working for the enemy, Vervain. There is no other explanation... for your idiocy." (General Woundwort)
Whenever TF comes up in polite company, I rabidly expound all the things that make it so cool (in my mind). It normally ends up with a look something like
I find its quite similar to trying to explain why League of Gentlemen is funny to someone who thinks the Two Ronnies is as good as comedy gets.....
I think you had to be there when you were ten, or you just won't get it......which makes it a kinda exclusive club!

Crikey! How small IS your house?BB Shockwave wrote:There was a long time when I run out of space at home and had to store my Overlord in the office
My best mate was a TF fan when I met him. Now he isn't. Perhaps he could see his future in me (snuggles under TF duvet).
Girlfriends just don't 'get' Transformers.
Oh, and the Two Ronnies beats the League of Gentlemen every time.
Hmm?Autobloke wrote:Girlfriends just don't 'get' Transformers.
I didn't particulary aim to 'convert' my girlfriend into being a fan, but she's become quite interested in Transformers in the last couple of years, largely due to the Beast Wars cartoon series, which she is totally into. She buys the DVDs for herself. She really likes Dinobot and I had to keep it a secret that he snuffs it for ages.
She likes all the dinosaur Transformers, come to think of it...she took one of my Cindersaur toys and I don't think I'm getting him back. And she's read some of the comics.
She didn't like the Dreamwave ones.

Pretty much anyone I show the movie to thinks it's cool. It helps that there's a high body count and nice animation.
Anyone who knew TFs as a kid I usually lend G2 and get back positive vibes.
Though recently I was going to lend a mate War Within 1 but thought better of it and lent him Watchmen instead.
Why can't all TF cartoons be that good?

Same here! It was easy to get my girlfriend into Beast Wars and I too has to keep Dinobot's demise a secret.KingMob wrote:She really likes Dinobot and I had to keep it a secret that he snuffs it for ages.

I thought of that yesterday, but thought it would be too obvious. And perhaps expected of me to mention it. I can't become TOO predictable now, can I?Metal Vendetta wrote:f'narr f'narrsprunkner wrote:However, I did get her into Buffy.
[edit] Damn you Brend! You always get there before me!!!
Ha, I said 'dick table'.
Sort of.
