Comic vs. Cartoon - round: Energon

Post by bobaprime85 » Tue Apr 26, 2005 8:47 pm

Even though I've never actually seen an episode of the Energon cartoon, I find myself curious about the general consensus regarding its quality. I know many found the old Armada cartoon to be as painful as a dental examination, therefore inferior to the comic, so what about Energon?

Comic wins. But only 'cos the cartoon was SO pump that even DW's dire scribblings looked 'good' in comparison..

Me not read the comic :(

The cartoon suffers from attrocious translation and script writing. In Japanese its probably brilliant (and some people who's opinions on such matters I respect have told me as such). The English version was just clunky, confusing and reliant on a level of writing which could have been outdone by most primary school children.

If you check the end credits, it says that the Japanese to English translation was done by Class 4b. :p

I seriously doubt the translation would have mattered much as most episodes are spent with 10 minutes of Kicker's self-doubt, then 5 minutes of Optimus Prime telling everyone how good soldiers they are and how they are going to win, EVERY time before they face the Cons.

Example, Prime has a loooong speech to Wing Saber when WS faces Shockblast, reassuring him that he will win, even though it's completely unnecessery... while Shockblast, patient as he is just stands there waiting...

The fight scenes are dull and there is just too much monologue... as with every Japanese TF toon since Victory, the villains are all plain idiots (save Megatron and Six-Shot) who couldn't be a possibly threat if the Bots weren't so incompetent.

Oh and there is also the idiotic matter of Alpha-Q, I mean look at the guy, he has EVIL written all over him and they go and make him a good guy.

AND Rodimus actually helps him to revive Unicron, the devourer of Worlds, so that AQ could have his planet back. Umm, what were you going to do with Unicron AFTERWARDS? Roddy? Dumbass...

The comic, is the only sensible thing. :o I think I would enjoy the cartoon if I saw it tho, since what little I've seen of it has acctually been better than the Armada-toon.

But seriously, did anyone acctually think it would be a competition? This is the logical-choice site after all. :)

The comic was good, and that's cause it was scribbled by Furman, and pencilled by skilled men. Don't confuse this with the G1-comic from DW....

Too bad you didn't like it. But to me the Armada/Energon saga is already a TF-classic.

I don't know - I was rather unimpressed by all the DW stories - Furman or not.

The first 10 or so episodes of energon were pretty good, after that it all became quite retarded.

I even stopped watching at some point, but the level went down during that period. The next episode I saw had Optimus Prime (combined with Omega Supreme) being pumped up to Unicron's size.

After that Prime managed to beat Unicron, because he had friends and Unicron didn't, WTF?

Yes, that's right kiddies, just say that you have friends the next time some overpowerd monster wants to kill you

It's definately the comic over the cartoon for me on energon.
