I SO try not to be odd - it's what I hate about myself the most. Unfortunately, I open my mouth and the weirdness just spills out.

Why is it that TF fans are so against a total newcomer taking over as leader of the Factions in TFs? I mean, honestly, leave it to you guys we'd never have gotten Primal or BW Megs.

ANd having new leaders every series can work, go see the Japanese TF shows.

It's the whole 'Mary Sue' thing...an unknown character appearing out of nowhere and immediately being better than the characters we've come to know and love (or, in some cases, hate). What's the point in developing characters at all if some random nobody can just walk out of the ether at any given moment, take over, and be effortlessly better than the well-developed character he replaced?

I much prefer the way things were done through most of the comic run; the characters who became leaders usually served under other people before they took command, and we got an oportunity to know them on their own terms, as opposed to just knowing them as 'that guy who replaced Optimus/Megatron/Shockwave/whoever'. Characters had to work to become leaders.

The Japanese stories (and BW, for that matter) are a bit different, because the new leaders aren't being elevated over anyone; pretty much all of the characters under their command are new too, and we're getting to know everyone at the same time [Ginrai is a bit of an exception to that, I suppose, since he poached Metalhawk's command in the midst of a series]. There's nothing wrong with that, either; that's how the original series started out, after all. And because none of the older characters are around, it's a bit more difficult for the new leader to outshine them.

Err, perhaps gestalt technology was much older than pretender tech, so it was more widely available?
