New Comic License?

Over the last 25 years the Transformers have appeared in media from the exquisite to the scribbled and been licensed to the responsible and the... Pat Lee. Discussion of all the branches of TF media within!

Just had to post to say I'm loving that avatar, Denyer. :headbang:

What was this topic about? Oh yeah, comic licence. Interest in the TF comic license and even laughing at DW has dropped to 0 on pretty much all the comic sites and boards I know of, apart from the odd thread when someone has bought a Titan TPB on a whim and comes on going "Remember the Transformers comic, it was great!" and you get a usually quite funny and good-hearted thread full of a bunch of people who haven't read the comic since they were 10 or something fondly trying to remember bits of it.

I love those threads. :)

It seems that the longer we have to wait, the less likely it will be that we get continuations of the DW storylines that were abruptly halted and the BW comic!!!

I guess that could be a good thing or a bad thing, but I for one am having a tough time trying to accept new TF universes . . . especially when we are dealing with G1 characters.

JOsh (the one-time DW colorist) posted a rumor on SEibertron that it's decided, IS NOT Devil's Due (phew, never liked those) but a larger company. Of course, he himself said it's something he was told someone was told... you know how it goes...

well, my friend heard from Hasbro that his company, Alias Comics, didnt get it. He told me straight off that DD didnt get it either and that Hasbro said they were going with someone "more established"

so its not really a "i heard from my roommate who's cousin is the mail man for Hasbro" type of situation. i trust the guy but its nothing i'd appreciate being made public on every TF site :P

just wait for something concrete

So who are we looking at, then? Mor established? I guess that leaves Marvel, DC, and Image . . . and the first 2 don't really do licensed characters anymore, do they? That's why the 80's revival was largely handled by new and up and coming comic companies.

Yeah, Dark Horse haven't been mentioned much thus far, but it makes a lot of sense when you think about it.

Star Wars, Aliens... they've got experience (and acclaim) working on big franchises.

Do you think there's any chance that we won't see a comic until the release coincides with the movie?

hmmm . . . that would be a long wait.

I mean, come on, even G.I.Joe's comic is continuing, albeit in yet another revamp. Why can't we get some TF material?

There's been a few rumors floating around that Dark Horse may have scored the license

I really hope thats true seeing as how i've been busting butt coloring some submission pieces for Dark Horse. If Dark Horse got TFs that'd definately increase my chances :P

Thanks for clearing that up, Josh, I didn't remember the exact way it was said...

Marvel or DC would be nice, though I cannot imagine how DC would squeeze the TFs into their universe...

Dark Horse could perform well here?

I can see this is a movie-tie in situation.

Plus their initials bode well, yes?

The worst thing about it being DH would be absolutely no Don.

Yeah, Don's contracted to DD. I THINK he's going to draw Voltron if they don't get the TF franchise.

yeah

Don is kinda DD only [though he is still doing stuff directly for Hasbro though, so you'll get to see some Don TFs but not as in abundance as a monthly comic]

Which sucks in a way but if say a company like Dark Horse got it, it kicks the door wide open for the next hot talent to show his stuff, which i think is kinda exciting. Especially since Dark Horse doesnt seem to run all their books through one "house style" like Dreamwave did on EVERY of their titles. Be interesting to see [if true] what kind of neat new stylistic interpretations of our bots would come of it

Yeah, I can remember the "robots don't have eyeballs!" arguments from the end of the Marvel run.

Marvel was, in retrospect, extremely diverse artistically. From Perlin to Wildman, they went through a lot of guys.

Too bad they could never find someone to replace Yomtov. Give me a few run down crayons, and I could do a better job coloring.
