Is a big ass hole (cartoon)

He smacks his fellow autobots around, barks orders at them, continually condiscends them and generally talks a lot of crap.

I have never hated an incarnation of Prime so much

I've not seen Energon, but does he really give the bots a kicking himself?

I think it's fair to say E-Prime is a lot more rough-and-ready than most Primes so far. He's not especially gentle and will readily employ more violent methods to get his point across.

Well I just read "Wanted Galvatron - dead or alive" Where Rodimus does just
that with a poor generic Con. He even uses OP's words! Scene-stealer...

Energon Prime talks a lot, and generally barks orders at everybody... idiot.

The way he and that always-shouting loudmouth Ironhide were treating Demolishor I can understand why he defected.

I have the (un) fortune of seeing the cartoon being translated to hungarian, with horrid names and voices. OP is "Optimus the First" I guess Cybertron 's Prime will be the second, is this a dynasty? :D

There hasn't been a decent Prime since Beast Wars - although that was a 'Primal'. Energon Prime is all yak yak yak, telling people they can't go on a mission 'cos it's too dangerous, but then immediately changes his mind when someone says 'But I want too'.
The unfortunate thing was that ALL the Energon characters had absolutely NO personality - except perhaps Shockblast and Sixshot. Even Starscream's character was totally neutered, becoming Meg's/Galv's resident arselicker.
Personally, I think that most cartoon Primes are/were flat, uninspiring drones.

More a translation issue than anything else. There s a lot of crap when you compare what they say in SL to what they translate in Energon.

TF shows translated from Japanese really suck - all the more reason to have a US or UK made show for the next one. The main problem is that Jap shows love to talk and do in-jokes that we definately won't get. Poor old translators have to find something to fill those lip-flaps - unfortunately it's usually pointless waffle.

How about whoever does Megas XLR doing the next TF cartoon?

Or the other way around. For instance there is a scene where Inferno faces the terrorcons and in Energon he gives a loooonnnggg speech of why he is a warrior and the like; in Sl he says "Fire".

Or all the crap of Demolisher being almost a traitor waiting the right time to defect. In SL we see how he really struggle to decide wheter to follow Megatron or stay with the autobots, not a simple one dimension character like he was portrayed in the US.

Is there ANYONE that thinks Energon was ever a good cartoon? No? Good - that's that sorted then. Not sure I want to retire from any new TF shows though (perhaps the one we'll get in 2455 will be better. Although probably not if we have to suffer ANOTHER Japanese one).

Haven't ever really been a fan of Gundam. It's got big robots in it, which I absolutely LOVE, so I don't know why I just can't get into it. Then again, I also haven't watched any of it for ages, so perhaps it's more compelling now.
I'm a big fan of the Guyver, Project A-ko, Cyber City OEDO 808 and Fist of the North Star, so perhaps my Japanese show tastes just aren't 'big robot' compatible (including Jap TF shows). I love Star Fleet 'cos of Dai-X, but then, that wasn't a cartoon.

That's the general concensus.
I think we'd have to agree that the toys are a bit better than Armada's were though. Perhaps if we get toy improvement in increments, then we'll have Binaltech quality stuff as the standard main line in... oh, say, fifty years. That said, the GF stuff looks 'not too bad' - mostly for Optimus and Starscream though.

I think Energon sucks becaue it's made by Japanese and they never try anything other than what makes a usual TF anime.

I mean, watch their TF shows starting with Headmasters. From there to Cybertron, they all have the same settings and characters:

Cybertrons:

-One big boring hero guy (Prime, Fort Max, Star Saber)
-One guy whose only duty is to combine with the hero guy (Victory Leo, Victory Saber, Armada Jetfire, and now Liger Jack...)
-One sub-commander who does absolutely nothing (can be the above candidate at the same time) (Energon/Cybertron Jetfire,Metalhawk)
-One young hot-headed idiotic punk who usually in the forefront of the series (Chromedome, Siren, Hot Shot, Ironhide, Cybertron Hot Shot)
-Myterious elder/big guy/annoying girl, only role to utter cryptic words or be a general good-for-nothing narrator (Grand Maximus, Vector Prime)
-Little sidekick for the annoying kid(s) Babysits... (Wheelie, Fixit, Browning, Moon, Minicons... friggin Minicons)

Destrons:

-One shogun type leader (=sits on his throne, barks orders, hardly does anything and treats his troops like *hit) (Megazarak, Deathsaurus, RID Megatron, ARmada Megatron, BWII Galvatron) To be honest, the japs learned this doesn't interest people in the least and the latter leaders (Energon/Cybertron Megs) are more active.
-One traitorous liuteant (Hellbat, Cybertron SCreamer, Shockblast, Sideways, BW2 Mega/Gigastorm, BW2 Starscream)
-One loyal to-the-end dumbass (Demolishor, Energon Screamer, Sky-Bite)
-One shadowy ninja with a sense of honor who usually defects to the Bots in the end (Sixshot, Sixknight, Quickswitch, Armada Scavenger)
-Big nasty combiner/giant who's only a threat to the Bots in his first appearance (Black Zarak, King Poseidon, Leokaiser, Tidal Wave, Energon Combiners)

HUmans:

-Annoying kid(s). Is everywhere, in every episode, sometimes the star of it. The bots take him to EVERY FRIGGIN battle! I remember "Robot-Buster" fondly at times like this. (Jan, Daniel, Siren and the gang [I admit, they were the most tolerable of the sort] , Rad, Alexis, Carlos, Kicker, Misha, new Cybertron kids)

Story:

-Cons want to find fuel/mysterious power source/power keys/energon/big doomsday weapon/doughnuts, Bots follow them and stop them, perhaps collecting energon/etc. themselves on the way.
-Around midway in the series, mysterious elder/someone else. appears and warns them of an impending danger that could destroy the Universe.
-Nasty dark very evil being/doomsday weapon appears (SCorponok's master plan, DEvil Z, BWII Galvy 's thingmabob, Deathsaurus' space fortress, BW Neo UNicron, Armada Unicron, Energon Unicron, Cybertron's black hole.)
-A: Bots blow it up, perhaps sacrificing themselves in the process (BW II killed off the whole cast in the end!!!)
-B: Bots ally with Cons, then blow it up, Con leader nobly dies in the process (Armada, Energon)

That's the short story of TF anime, and that's why I don't watch Energon or Cybertron... having watched Headmaster, Masterforce, Victory, BW II I can already tell you how they are going to go and end... No suprises here. Compare these shows with the US/UK comic, or even a show like the Batman/Superman serieses, even Batman Beyond...

I wonder if fans hadn't got so nasty about Beast Machines, if things would've gone down the Japanese-produced road.

If it would have been Japanese...

-There'd been humans on Cybertron for some unknown reason...
- In the end, Nightscream would have saved the day...
- Silverbolt never would have come back.

I think we can all agree to blame it on the japanese by now?! :x I wanted Mainframe or Mike Young Productions to do Energon, and Cybertron too. :(
Western companys are schweet at doing toy-based cartoons. :)

All said tho, apparently Cybertron looks to be the best of the new-age 21th century japanese toons.

Heck, Japs do great animation... just remember they did TF the Movie, too... But leave them out of the cartoon writing.

Yes, they can, and do make great animation. Except when it comes to Toy-based cartoons. I think youre right when you mention the writing, cause TFTM was indeed written by westerners and animated by people from the east.

I think maybe the good thing to do is to combine the two, other cartoons have reportedly done so with smashin results.

Let the West write (hell, I'LL write it - it couldn't be any worse than the Jap stuff) and let the East animate.
Let the Megas XLR people make the show - that cartoon kicks botty. Let Mainframe have another crack at a TF show. Or the guys who did the FMV for the TF PS2 game - I certainly liked the rusty, chipped paintwork look to the 'bots. It may have only been computer game movie graphics but it kicked the crap out of the Energon cartoon etc.
If a Transformers cartoon is really only to promote the new toyline, then surely it has to be realised that we hate the Japanese originated cartoons so much that it'll deter us from watching them and possibly harm sales of the toys.
Give us something good that turns what could have been so-so characters into classics (Bumblebee or Rattrap say) and the toys will shift like nobody's business because we actually like them. If it hadn't been for the fact I already had Energon Ironhide, I don't think I'd have bothered buying him based on his whiney c*ckhead character in the show. That and the fact he's also a bit of a rubbish plasticy brick as a toy too.
From what few clips I've seen of Galaxy Force, there also seem to be too many humans in it again. To this I say: NO! NO!! NO!!!

Oh well, we can only hope for next time...
