Okay, pretend for a moment that DW didn't implode, thereby dragging Energon into the dark abyss. Now, as of issue 30, the story was in an interesting place, what with OP inside Unicron, Megatron back, and Avalon cooking up nasty stuff. So.... where would you go from there? Any particular ideas or directions? And to make things a bit more interesting, there's no need for a Cybertron reboot!
Sooooo.... any thoughts?
Fun with speculation!

I really love the last splash page of Energon, with Optimus Prime loaded for bear and about to blast his way out of Unicron. I always imagined the next issue as being a 'Die-Hard' style blast-a-thon as Prime tears his way through Unicron's innards.
In my perfect world, Avalon and Alpha Q would hold a bloody coup and conquer Cybertron. After murdering all the other Autobot council members, Jetfire and the remaining Autobots are forced to flee Cybertron.
Megs regains control of the Decepticons and leads them on an attempt to seize Cybertron. They battle their way to Avalon and Alpha Quintesson, who combine into some horrible mishmash of parts. This new and powerful enemy, Omega Quintesson, tears the Decepticons limb from limb. They are forced to retreat, and Omega Quintesson begins to build a massive, impregnable fortress on Cybertron.
Meanwhile, Optimus Prime finds his way into the core of Unicron. Whereas in the cartoon Megatron was able to control Unicron, in the comic version Prime takes command. The Decepticons, Autobots, and Minicons all meet on Unicron's surface, and Megs and Prime have one final showdown. In the battle, Prime is mortally wounded but manages to tear off Megatron's head and hurl it into Unicron's furnace/orifice.
Starscream's powerful ghost appears to challenge the dying Prime. However, it is discovered that his body is made entirely of Energon. Kicker and the Omnicons use their Energon-handling properties to disintegrate him, cast his spark into space, and then create new body parts for Prime.
Prime, now a glowing Energon battery, leads the Autobots and remaining Decepticons into Cybertron. In one final battle he confronts Omega Quintesson, defeats him, and thereby restores peace to Cybertron. Unicron's lifeless body is cast into a newborn white star, and it explodes in a burst of Energon, creating a powerful sun that radiates enough Energon to power Cybertron for millenia to come.
The End.

Nice story, but knowing Furman (and trust me, I read everything he ever wrote) unlikely.
How things would have gone on? Judging from the scraps of info we posess (the previews and covers, I'd say this way:
-WE won't see OP for a while. He's lost in UNicron.
-After Scorpy's death, AQ names Mirage new Terrorcon leader and recruits new members Doomlock and Command Ravage (Simon said they would feature).
- Megatron starts building a secret base, helped by the scientist Shockblast. He recruits Slugslinger and later - possibly - trades away the location of OP in return for Snowcat and Sharckticon, who are in Autobot captivity at the time.
- The Autobots fortify the earh bases, now that Megs is back. The building of Omega begins. Jetfire leads for now.
- AQ approaches the mortally wounded Demolishor with an offer - hunt down Kicker in return of a new body. He naturally accepts and manages to capture the boy despite the best efforts of Rad and the humans.
- We learn that the resurrcetion of Starscream WAS planned... by Avalon, no less.
- While the Horseman's attack distracts the Bots on Cybertron, the Terrorcons kidnap Over-run.
- Optimus discovers Avalons treachery but cannot warn his teammates.
- In the end, it all comes down into one big battle where AQ is pulling the strings. The Omnicons engage Starscream and eventually suck his energy into them, which causes them to run wild. Then comes phase two, where AQ forces Kicker and Over-Run to direct the energy from Starcream, Cyberton (hence why they needed Over-run) and Unicron (which Megs unleashes trying to empower himself) into the device Avalon has.
The device is capable of breaching the barriers between parallell dimensions, like Unicron does, only ona greater scale. Avalon and Levitacus clash and he destroys the traitor.
Optimus defeats the super-powered Megatron but arrives to late to stop the device... a blindig flash envelops everyone, and then...
Prime finds himself on a Cybertron different to this one, and he's already in his Galaxy Convoy body. AQ explains to him that he destroyed the boundaries between dimensions, collapsing all realities into one - just to get his homeworld back. Laughing, AQ departs, leaving OP alone in a 'brave' new world...
