Transformers is the 37th best cartoon ever, apparently.

Over the last 25 years the Transformers have appeared in media from the exquisite to the scribbled and been licensed to the responsible and the... Pat Lee. Discussion of all the branches of TF media within!

I suppose the Beast Wars series bumps up it's quality somewhat, as the original G1 show didn't have much going for it other than some memorable voice acting and that transforming sound.

Do you think it's placing is justified?

Now, if it was Top 100 toys I think the TFs would derseve to be in the Top 10, but Top 100 Comics? I fear TFs wouldn't make the grade... :(

I like their disclaimer:

Poll is indicitive of the opinions of those people who both knew about it and were in a position to vote; as well as being compiled from a subjective shortlist of a hundred nominations decided upon by a bloke with ten minutes to come up with an idea to plug a hole in our schedule.

Ah. :x I just read about that list on he-man.org. Apparently they made fun about just about all of the cartoons and just sawed em down, and saw it like spoof. Made those british f*cks (bloody bollocks named channel4 is a british channel innit? I believe they said so in the other place, that and that you talk about it all the time..) should have considered the fact of doing an acctual list of the greatest cartoons ever, and list their strengths and why they should be in the list, but nooooooo...

I believe that the list was compiled by people voting on the internet. I see nothing wrong with that, as the greatness of a cartoon is also judged by it's popularity.

Gonna check that list out now, and come back and rant and rant & rant some even more.

I just felt as if they were showing alot of disrespect for these cartoons, as if there had never been any good about any cartoon ever made. I suppose I fired myself up a bit too much I guess. I tend to do that for some reason.

Dogs-bollocks was the good one? Slag. I knew that, 51st State & all: "So dogs-bollocks is the good bollocks?" I'll correct it. :(

Oh, and... *clicks link*

EDIT: That list is a swizz-cheese of errors! And why on earth is animated movies included in the list?? South Park shouldn't be that high!

I have to disagree. South Park is one of the finest animated series/movies I have ever seen and long may it continue to reign over us.

I think the point is here, that yes, it was voted 37th in the poll, which is a great thing, because it wasn`t even on the original shortlist, so people`s opinions DID count when the voting took place, but the programme didn`t reflect this.

The "celebrities and experts" (so quoted because I didn`t know who the hell they were) that commented on the cartoon slagged it completely, saying that it wasn`t memorable, and that the toys were crap anyway.

Shows what they know. 21 years after their original release, and they`re still going strong. The stuff they commented that they DID like (mainly Disney bollocks) was all MUCH lower down, so it seems the public don`t really like Disney as much as they`d like to think.

Did they show clips from Beast Wars or the movie?

Thats probably fair comment, though Jungle Book is still a bit too low for my liking.

As are the non-Disney genius of Road Runner, Pink Panther and Top Cat. Oh well.

They didn`t show either. They showed the tiniest bit of the opening titles, and a transformation sequence.

I love Family Guy, but I don't think three seasons is enough to put it in the Top 5. I also thought King Of The Hill should have been rated higher, but I had a hard time putting it in front of anything that was above it.

C4 always make **** programmes.

TF:TM should have been in there, that's the only good part of the cartoon other then the first 3 episodes.

The list is a load of ****, as are all C4s 'top 100s'

Hehe, they had Legend of the Overfiend in there, that`s enough to piss Disney fans off, so that`s good enough for me.

Meh, that list is also clearly mince due to the notable lack of The Dreamstone. Which ruled.

Yeah, Dreamstone was awesome, in an uber-camp sorta way. I've only seen about half a season in total, bits there and there. But it's genuinely cool. :) The Transformation/Creation of Zordrak is awesome. :D

Ah, so that was it! I saw that on Pro7 and never understood a thing of it, but the main villain was very cool-looking, and I loved that fish-dog... :D

Btw, did you notice... where is Ice Age? :eyebrow: Was far better then the Incredibles, which is propably on the upper regions only 'cause it has been in the cinemas not too long. Give it a few years and it will disappear, while Toy STory still holds it's place...

Also, I 'm mad for Monty Python, but unless you take Mr Gilliam's animations, it's not a cartoon, it's a film....

Edit: Just realised. Where is BATMAN TAS? I would have voted that one for sure.

Exactly. Nothing but the Simpsons was ever going to be No.1, seeing as C4 has to push it and push it.

The fact that the TFs were in there at all is bloody amazing, they weren`t even in the original nominations.

37th? Thiry-bloody-seventh!?!

Post by Autobloke » Sun Mar 06, 2005 2:10 pm

Top 100 cartoons. CARTOONS dammit! Not CGI - that isn't a cartoon - so bugger off Shrek, Toy Story et al. Although, no Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within? Yeah, it was crap, but it LOOKED nice. And how can the poor old TF TV series, made on an entire budget of 5p, compete with multi-million dollar Disney movies? Movies aren't cartoons either - they're animated FEATURES! If this was the allowable criteria, then at least judge Transformers by the friggin' movie. And Tom and Jerry at number two? I suppose the number was apt in some respects, if you know what I mean.
