How much influence does Hasbro have over what gets published in the comics? Are they pretty hands on and set the agenda, or do they give the authors free reign?
It seems to me that it would be pretty hard to write a comic if the toy company was looking over your shoulder the whole time, and I think some of the problems in the TF comics come from authors being forced to give the limelight to the toy line's flavor of the month.

From what I've heard, Hasbro pretty much let them get on with it to a certain extent these days. Sure, they're more hands on than they were in the dying days of G1 and during G2, but I think the main thing they insist is that its not too violent for the kiddies.
I think Budiansky was under far more pressure than Furman was during Armada/Energon. There would have been some requests, and I think Furman did well considering. However, it didn't seem aimed at the kiddies, which you'd think Hasbro would have preferred.
