Comic talk

So, anyone suffering TF comic withdrawal symptoms yet?

Be honest!

Hmmm... how long would you be willing to wait if the guarantee was a **** hot TF comic?

And does anyone want to share some tips on some other ongoing titles worth collecting at the moment?

Yup. For roughly ten years now.

Muchas gracias to Mob for the Sig, proving why he's called 'King'.

The "i" in "Señior" from "Señior's Covenant" is intentional and part of a stupid & cheesy inside joke from '02. Thank you for your concern.

I'd be willing to wait maximum 6 months. :x Already the symptoms are showing up, I find that I'm having an immense crave to see the beutiful knuckles of Predaking in action in sequential art again.

As for ongoings, hmm. Perhaps the new Green Lantern title that will come out after the current Green Lantern Rebirth is over? And of course the ongoing Green Lantern Rebirth, there's a reason it's gone back to press twice you know. And also She-Hulk, a very fun light-hearted little comic really. Quite good. Altough it might have been cancelled now or soon. Good stuff tho.

Oh! Oh! And the NEW Hulk ongoing, with Peter David on the writing chore once more! :D And of course, how could I forget, Ultimates volume 2. It atleast features art by a former TF-artist.

What kind of stuff do you like? Just superheroes, or some other things as well?
I don't really pay attention to much of what's happening in mainstream superheroes, I tend to follow my favourite writers+artists around instead. 8 years of picking up almost every X-book released pretty much burned out my interest in traditional serial superheroics.
But from reading some things online, I'm not sure there's a great selection of 'jumping-on' points at the minute, a lot of good stuff just recently finished or is around the halfway mark.

But, lemme think. One thing I'm interested in is the Seven Soliders project that DC is putting out shortly. Grant Morrison and a squad of hand-picked artists are doing a 30-issue series that's split over 7 mini-series and 2 bookends. It sounds mad and daring and brilliant etc. Should be of interest to the superhero crowd as well as those with more esoteric interests.
For a bit different, We3 just finished, but when it gets collected, you should totally buy it. His newest mini-series, Vimanarama is coming out soon, it might be worth a look. Phillip Bond is on the art.

Garth Ennis' Punisher is criminally under-rated. It should be just about to go onto a new storyline, IIRC.

I believe Black Panther just started a new run. There's a good buzz around it, the first issue was put on-line and it was quite good, as these things go.

Oh, and if you like X-Men, Phoenix: Endsong just started, and they're going to be reprinting both issues due to high demand. It's a mini-series, but enjoying it kinda relies on one having read New X-Men. (The Morrison title, not the new Academy X thing).

For something a bit more different, all 4 of Warren Ellis' Apparat books should still be available; they're 1-shots designed to showcase what comics might be like if men-in-tights punching each other wasn't the dominant genre, and are quite lovely. Frank Ironwine, Quit City, Simon Spector and Angel Stomp Future are the names.
He has a new ongoing series coming out at DC with JH Williams soon, called Desolation Jones.
Yup. For roughly ten years now.
There it is. :(

War Within and the first 5 issues of DW's TF/Gi-Joe crossover are the closest to having quenched my thirst for good TF comics.

A shame #6 went tits up so badly...

A 9mm killed Starscream.

argh.

Some good suggestions KM.

I am a sucker for superheroes, though the only regular comic subscription I could afford recently other than TFs was my Spidey stuff. That and the odd old Moore or Miller TPB.

So I guess I'm on the look out for some good jumping in points or a decent TPB or two.

Gone to Texas.

You won't regret picking up Preacher. It's fan-dabbie-dozie.

My fanboy-obliged Morrison plugs; All of the Invisibles is available in TPB, and Seaguy just came out in TPB yesterday. ;)

If you don't already have it, it might be a good idea to pick up Alan Moore's V for Vendetta soon, so you can join the rest of us in being gutted when the film comes out and it's a piece of crap.

That link don't work mate. But I must've been thinking of From Hell.

Anyhows, VFV and Gone to Texas are in my Amazon basket for now.

As for Grant Morrison, I'd heard murmerings that he'd lost the touch recently?

Hmm, the link works when I'm on Firefox, but I tried it on IE and got a forbidden message. Anyway, no matter.

I'm a big Grant Morrison fan, so I'm gonna tell you 'nonsense' to any claim that he's 'lost the touch', but in all seriousness I dunno where that rumour came from; him and Frank Quitely (who I'm going to have the pleasure of getting some things signed by in 9 hours, yay!) just finished up We3, which is being hailed as the best mini-series of the last several years and is massively critically acclaimed, and he's one of DC's Big Things this year, what with Seven Soliders and his All-Star book.
(He's been signed by DC as one of their top-line talents; their highest profile books this year are going to be All-Star Batman + Robin by Frank Miller and Jim Lee, and All-Star Superman by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely. When those books were announced, the entire board of Marvel could be heard crying quietly in the corner, and the shock even shut Mark Millar up for more than 5 seconds.)
Morrison is the bomb, mate.
But then, I would say that. :D

I do know he's getting some stick from some Marvel Zombies, particularly the conservative X-fans, but then those guys just want everything in the X-books to be dialled back to 1983. You know, when Chris Claremont could actually write decent comics.

Morrison's stuff is not to everyone's taste, fair enough. the fools, the blind frightened fools

You def won't regret picking up Preacher. Good choice. 8)

Me too. :)

The current B.P.R.D. mini-series holds my great interest, too. I read first two issues, and can't wait for more (third is out already, yes?).
