Galaxy Force Episode 1 Discussion

Clips are up around the web. 2005 and Transfandom, among others have em.

Spoilers!

Ok, plot is as follows: Three kids who we will all end up hating are chilling on Earth, and they look over head and see Dreadlock (Jetfire?) in vehicle mode flying around. He's scanning for vehicle modes to take back to Cybertron with him. He collects a bunch and returns home.

Meanwhile, back on Cybertron, Galaxy Convoy (Opty), Excellion (Hot Shot?) Backpack, Gaurdshell and Jackshot (New charecters) are facing a problem- a big frikken Black Hole is threatining to swallow up Cybertron! The bots attempt to fire something into it, but the attempt fails. Opty calls a metting of a bunch of Autobots and from what I gather, instructs them that they have to flee the planet (to Earth?) Here, Dreadlock presents the bots with Earth alternate modes, and Opty, Excellion and Jackshot choose theirs and have nifty transformation sequences.

Then they start loading up to leave Cybertron, with most the population being packed into a big rocket thing. Then a warp gate opens in front of them, and Vector Prime flies through with a really freaken awesome transformation sequence. He explains to the bots that to the stop the black hole, they need Galaxy Forces, little circle things. The bots are bit wary, cause they have no idea who this guy is.

But then, from either hell or a really fiery place, Master Megatron and Starscream watch through a weird hole-thing. They see Vector Prime present the Autobots with a map to the Galaxy Forces, and decide its a good time for an attack.

Back on Cybertron, things are loading fine until Starscream brusts through a warp gate and starts kicking Excellion and Dreadlocks rears. Opty and crew run to aid them, leaving Vector Prime and Backpack behind. Of course,a s soon as their gone, Megatron steps into the room with a really dramatic and cool entrance. Backpack freaks out and charges him, and is tossed aside like a rag doll. Megatron confronts Vector Prime, and attempts to lull him into giving him the map- he promises to trust Vector Prime, which the bots were hesitant to do (I think). Vector Prime is unsure, but then Megatron yanks the map from his hand and sends Vector Prime crashing agaiinst the wall, and then he starts gloating till Prime shows up. Fight ensues, with megs having the distinct upper hand, even after Prime combines with trailer. Vector Prime grabs his sword and leaps at Megatron, and Megatron CATCHES HIS SWORD WITH ONE HAND AND THROWS HIM THROUGH- not into, THROUGH A WALL. Frikken sweet.

Starscream keeps fighting the other bots, and one of his attacks sends an unconcious Gaurdshell up into the black hole, which is getting closer/stronger. Starscream decides its a good time to fall back before they get swallowed up as well, and Megatron agrees, and they both retreat into a warp gate.

The bots mope about Gaurdshell for a moment, and then decides its time to leave before Cybertron goes poof. And they do- and Cybertron does. Cybertron exploads as it is sucked into the black hole. Yeah, you heard me, first episode and Cybertrons already been destroyed.

Meanwhile back on Earth, the three kids who we will all grow to hate are wandering around, when they see the sky turn a funny color, and a meteorite come crashing down to Earth. Stupid kids they are, they go to investigate, and they find an unconcious Gaurdshell in the crater, and while the two older kids are in shock, the younger one distinctly and definatly recoginizes it as a Transformer. End credits.

Ok, now that its done, heres the review.

Animation: The CG Models are incredible, far better looking then even BW and BM- except the faces. The faces are static, and there is some, err, oddness with the mouth movements and rather unexpressive eyes. It took me awhile to figure out why that is, but I think I realize it now. While robots are Gonzos forte, to the best of my knowledge they've never done robots with moving mouths before- that explains the awesomeness of everything else except the faces. I'm sure they'll grow into it over time though. The human kids look decent for an anime, but Im not sure how well the CG/Traditional will mix when we see them next to each other. 9.5/10 If they fix the faces, 10/10 or maybe even 11/10

Music: The music is nice, dramatic and apropriate. Megatrons entrance was really creepy, as was Vector Primes. Very nice. The music for the intro and ending are absolutly awesome. More on those later. 10/10

Voices: Megatron and Convoy were excelent. Didn't really get much of a feel for the other bots yet. The kids were... notsogood. 8/10

Action: Holy carp. That was awesome. Havn't seen a fight this good since the last episode of Armada, and before that, the last episode of Beast Machines. 10/10.

Pacing/directing/ect: Kinda slow for the first episode, but then again, they did have to get everybody introduced and the storyline set up. Expect improvements later. 7/10

Intro: This is always my favorite part of an anime, because they always tend to have exciting and awesome intros. WHile the music was great, the video that went with it, well, not so much. Te intro failed to excite me, but it was better then SLs intro, which I hated. Not as good as either of the Micron Legend or Car Robots intros. 7/10

Ending: This was a very unusual ending. The music for it was easily the best music I've ever heard attached to Transformers. The footage was very stylish, and thats fine. The problem was, that footage focused almost entirely on the kids. While it was good footage, I am still a bit worried that the Transformers were only seen as a backdrop to the ending... I'll give it 10/10 for the music and style, but as I said, Im very concerned about the role of the kids.

Other notes: I am really worried about the kids. REAALLY worried. Bad Armada vibes here, though then again, no stereotypical mexican accents. And no Billy and Fred. I just wonder how the bots are gonna manage to get the kids along for all their plantary exploits, since this is called Galaxy Force and it is known for a fact that we're having at least 5 other planets...

Vector Prime is the coolest looking Transformer ever. Pure love.

Megatron, despite his odd look, was FANTASTIC. Completly and realisticaly conveyed the power, arrogance and authority Megatron should have. Loved him.

Didn't like Starscreams face. Didn't look right at all. Creepy.

Maybe its just the mouth, but Galaxy Convoy screams Primal to me.

If this is a sequal and Excellion IS Hot Shot, he's certanly regressed a lot from his SL state- he's definatly back to being the newbie kid. Dreadlock, however, could still be Jetfire without any real changes. Starscream is also screaming G1 at me- which as you probably know is not something I like.

I feel diry for this, but dangit, they made Lori hot. Damnit Gonzo, you and your fanservice!

To the best of my knowledge, this is the first time I've ever seen fancy flashy transformations- going to vehicle mode! Looked pretty cool actually

And thats all I have to say. I'm looking forward to what comes next!

Well, I dare say we can call this show "Armada reloaded" and forget about it.

Great animation, really. No problem with that... ...though BW had far better facial animation...

Battle scenes, well, anime-ised, as it's nowdays standard. With all sort of dragon-punches and kicks, and mystical energy balls. Am I the only one who yearns for the days TFs remembered that guns were for shooting? And alt modes did actually have some use...

The voices, well. Most of them are okay, but I yearn for Chris Latta.

Story - when I saw the first episode of Energon, I could tell you this was going nowhere and will never be such a memorable series as BW/BM was.

I can tell you the same now. Pretty animation, good toy-advertising, nothing else.

I hope Furman's comic WILL come out eventually...

Sounds quite promising to me, I like the concept of various planets with different Transformer factions inhabiting them.

You can guarantee the voice acting and script will be vile upon americanisation though.

I really enjoyed this first episode, conflict, planning, and some story already in place. I think it helps that through, lets assume 50 eps(unless someone knows how long its going to be already) they are only searching for what is it, 4 objects? so rather than finding one per episode, like mini cons in armada, there may be some sense of accomplishment as these are found.

About the soon to be horrid American dub, I understand how hard it can be. We, generally as fans, want to see the transformers in all their glory and don't really want kids in the mix. These humans, for a transformers 'anime', are over expressive to the point that they have all the normal expressions of other anime thats fun to watch. The thing is... we don't want that in this type of show. The american voice actors will take how the humans move too much into account and give them horrible peppy voices and lines.

It has the potential.

Pretty good first episode. I liked quite a lot the opening and the music (which will quite sure be changed to a midi like music in the american translation. Transformers tatatannnn Robots in Disguise tatatatnnnn). The animation is pretty good and definitely better than superlink. Agreed that the mouths are a little odd. Very amazing transformation sequences, although a few seem quite simple.

So Seibertron is damned and every Cybertron go to Earth but Convoy tells them that they should stay in disguise, every one has to choose one of the designs that Dreadlock brought.

Starscream is a fearless warrior and stays as a loyal Master Megatron servant as shown in the last episodes of Superlink. He trashes with all the Cybertrons who put in his way.

Vector Prime s design is pretty good and the clockish details inside his chest are well done and add a little ancient style to him. He is tricked by Megatron but later he will show some of his potential (episode 3 is great).

Guardlock was saved by Vector Prime s interference who made him possible to reach Earth.

Seibertron is swallowed and apparently destroyed but maybe wasnt that way or like in Headmasters it is really doomed. Time will tell.

The Ending song is very good but like many other Tfs jap songs it doesnt suit the show.

personaly i liked it. although when i downloaded a torrent of it; my computer ran too slow. but from what i saw it looked very good. on a sad note though because my media player keeps acting up; episode would cancel out and freeze my computer like ten minutes into it. but from what i saw i can say "screw you energon".

oh, and thanks for reminding me about the show. or i would've never thought to grab a bit torrent for a peek.

I have caught up on a lot of episodes now, having just watched the introduction of the Vanguard team and Sonic Bomber.

The show flows really nicely. Its not on the same level as Beast Wars but it is probably the next best thing.
