Over the last 25 years the Transformers have appeared in media from the exquisite to the scribbled and been licensed to the responsible and the... Pat Lee. Discussion of all the branches of TF media within!

War Within despite bumps. In fact, I'd like to present the ending to our first run-through with the Fallen as a prime example of the editing that some claim lacking from Dreamwave. There was clearly a puzzled gorilla with a pair of scissors making an effort.

Muchas gracias to Mob for the Sig, proving why he's called 'King'.

The "i" in "Señior" from "Señior's Covenant" is intentional and part of a stupid & cheesy inside joke from '02. Thank you for your concern.

Megs was the best character indeed, closely followed by Armada-Prime, and believe it or not, G1 Jazz, but that's probably colored by the fact that Jazz is one of my favorites. :)

Best story arc ever was Worlds Collide, mainly cause it finnally gave the fans what many of them probably had wanted for a long time, a G1-crossover(sorta) and subsequent smack-downs between them and the Armada characters. Good writing too. :)

I supose that the old Furry-man was the best writer after all. To think some people were very unhappy with his efforts when he first came onboard.

Don was the Don of artists and you could see how he evolved his style from his own MacroMasters comic the whole time, getting better and better.

Best single issue? Wow, that one was hard, I'll have to take one with a good individual moment, Transformers Armada #16. (I kinda liked Energon #29 too, TEN...YEARS!) :D

Best series,War Within or Armada, TWW or TFA, TWW or TFA..hmm, TWW had more stabile writing, but I'm going to go for Armada since it's a new take on Transformers.

Best story arc was Worlds Collide. Best cover? I'm going to have to check all this I think, hold on... Owwf, many a favorite here, (hrrm, yes, they may have done a few too many..) but I'll haveta go with G1 v3 #6 :) Jetfire and Sunstorm locked in mortal combat above earths atmoshere, second is acctually Armada #16, Bludgeon lurking in the shadows and all. ;)

Anything else? The graphical style acctually, they (as in mostly Pat Lee?) invented a new way of drawing Transformers, and altough Lee indeed skews proportions a lot, others did not. And I have to say that overall I like this look better than the organo-mess that was G2 or the Marvel Trans-formers toy accurate-itis. (It had nearly as many styles as there were artists, I know, but meh..Wildman rules btw.)

I admit that some of the choices might not neccessary be 'best', but 'favourite.

Character

I think Sparkplug it is. Always thinking of his companions, not afraid to tell off even Prime when neccesary. Shame he's not around in Energon.

Megatron loses many points because of 'The Prime Directives'. "I am Eric Meganus Lehnsherr, these humans are not worthy your attention Optimus, join me..."

Story

Though I love 'Dark Ages', 'World's Collide' has better ending.

Writer

Simon Furman. Some of his stories were dodgy, but he actually didn't have serious competition.

Artist

Don Figueroa. Though he must work on his humans and if Wildman and Raiz were given more chances, they might give him a run for his money. I personally prefer Wildman.

Single issue

'Dark Ages' #3. Damn, I like this series.

Series

War Within, it had less weak points than Armada/Energon.

Cover

Not paying too much attention to covers, but like the one from 'Dark Ages' #2 by Figueroa.

Anything else

Ummm.... they kinda blazed a trail, showed that Transformers are at least a little popular and now a more serious company with more resources can take over the license and produce material of better quality?

They also introduced few talented artists and helped them to take their first steps in professional comic industry.

Sparkplug would be, if he was in Energon... Thus, Armada/Energon Megs wins by a mile. I also loved Bludgeon Jr. too..

Best story?

Dark Ages, by miles. It was like reading Marvel TF again...

Best writer

Look at my sig...

Best artist?

Don and Guido, joint place.

Best single issue?

TWW DA #4. Trypticon is like Roger Moore...(and I never thought I would say that...)

Best series?

The War Within.

Best cover?

Armada 13? The one with Over-Run, Starscream, and G1 Galvy...

Best anything else?

MTMTE! I mean, that was something I waited an eternity for... I even started drawing and writing profiles for those who were missing from Marvel's TFU...

Best character?
WW Starscream, particularly in AoW#1. I really thought he was spot on. Ruthless and cold-blooded to excess.

Best story?
The Dark Ages. Pure joy from start to finish.

Best writer
Furman. Duh.

Best artist?
The Don.

Best single issue?
AoW#1. Honourable mentions though to Ongoing#4 and World's Collide #3. All top notch.

Best series?
The War Within.

Best cover?
Hmmm, tough. Don's Prime on the cover of Ongoing #1 was pretty sweet.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

And me too.

Would have liked him, if at least 50% of what he said would have made sense... but it didn't. And face it, listening to some religious techno- babble for 6 issues without understanding what the hell is going on is not an enjoyment...

The Sunstorm saga for me was a cut above the average TF tale, but Sunstorm himself was more of a cypher than a character. Besides "You're in my way, suffer heretic!" he seemed to have very little characterisation. Mick did quite well with this arc, don't get me wrong, but Sunstorm was pretty one-dimensional.

I really like Pat Lee's work [particularly his stuff from years back and his most recent stuff. I really like how he's starting to play with blacks a lot.] but i dont care for Rob Ruffulo's artwork very much

He's got details down totally but proportions and puffyness seriously detracted
he's a great colorist though.

Just for the record, i couldn't disagree more. Tastes like underbase.

Pat isa great cover artist, but his interior art seems to utterly lack any understanding of basic story telling IMO. Plus i get teh impression he struggles with eadlines, his later issues are always noticably poorer tht the first.

it still had his usual problmes tho - some of the facial expressions are hilarious and there are still a lot of issues with perspective and proportions - especially towards the end of the issue in teh woods.

Best character?

(Classic)
WW/G1 Optimus Prime
2nd Place: WW Megatron

(New Gen)
The Fallen

Best story?

Hardest to decide.
I love War and Peace (Classic G1 Stuff), Worlds Collide ( Made Armada an worth reading and valid-from-the-old-fan-boy-perspective-series) and Everything War Within ( I mean Dark Ages honored its name, Vol. 3 was going very good but Vol 1…) yeah, I am going for War Within Vol 1, simply put, it was Dreamwave’s best addition to Transformers canon.

Best writer?

Simon Furman of course.

Best artist?

I would say Don Figueroa, he is the best drawing TFs, but everybody has voted for him and his humans simply suck, so I am going for Jae Lee. I loved Guido Guidi too.

Best single issue?

War Within Vol 1 #3: Prime and Megs fighting for the first time, Starscream`s first betrayal, an all-out Decepticon attack on Iacon, that’s number one in my scale.

Best series?

War Within

Best cover?

War Within Vol 1 # 1

Best anything else?
!Bringing back TFs!

Making Armada and Energon memorable, something impossible if we could only have had those poorly written cartoons.

its important to say it twice.

altho personally i think a lot of DW's articist are encouraged to use too much detail - often it interferes with the calrity of the work and teh storytelling.

Yeah, def. One of the (many) reasons Ruffalo wasn't just a poor comic penciller, but actually an irritatingly inept one, IMHO. He went overboard putting soooo much detail into the characters and half the time you still couldn't tell who they were or how they were feeling/what they were thinking!

Joe Ng is good but I don't think he'd really feature on any of my serious 'Best of' lists, with the possible exception of WW: tDA #1 as best single issue.
