TF Prose Stories

Post by veritech » Mon Dec 27, 2004 5:25 pm

Hello! I'm a newbie on this board but a longtime TF fan. I have been enjoying the many new prose TF stories. I just read "Another Time, Another Place" which bridges the gap between Marvel US G1 and G2. Also I have read Furman's continuation of G2.

Are there any other prose stories written to bridge various gaps in Marvel US or UK continuities? Am I missing some? Thanks

An essential TF prose story is State Games by James Hill, charting gladiator Megatron's rise to power amid the early days of the civil war.

Hopefully someone here can direct you to some scans.

Is it just me or does the short story, Another Time, Another Place, have some major continuity problems with the US Marvel Generation 2 continuity??

For instance, in the prose story, Bludgeon is disassembled on Hydrus at the Nucleon medical center. Yet Bludgeon is alive and well in G2.

Another potential discrepancy arises when Megatron, destroyed with Ratchet in the Ark on earth in "The Last Autobot" is partially rebuilt in the prose story (at the Nucleon medical center) and is destroyed yet again by Prime and Grimlock by the end of that story. Yet in G2 he is back on Earth and cuts a deal with Cobra Commander to rebuild him.

Am I missing something here? Didn't Simon Furman write both "Another Time, Another Place" and G2?? :eyebrow:

Another Time Another Place was written for the final UK G1 annual in 1992, when the G1 comic was heading for cancellation.

It worked well as an epilogue at the time, but when Furman was asked to write G2 two years later, he wisely ignored it and set up the much larger saga involving the Second Generation Decepticons, and Bludgeon and Megatron as enemies instead of allies.

No, it's in the 1986 UK Annual and is pretty fantastic.

Uh, Eugenesis by James Roberts, maybe? I haven't read it but would dearly like to.

I'm half way through it. I can't believe someone hasn't bought the rights to publish it properly.

I wonder if Roberts will ever put it up on the net. All Transfans should read it.

Okay, here is the next most obvious inquiry: How do you get a copy of Eugenesis?

It had a small limited print run. No word on a second printing I'm afraid.

Found State Games here:

Here is another question (semi-related) . . . .

I understand that the G2 introduction was a bit different in the UK . . . actually a retelling that did not include the G.I.Joe portions.

Can anyone give me a brief synopsis of the UK G2 intro? and I don't suppose there are scans someplace . . . .

Is this the Fleetway G2 we are talking about? If so, the Fleetway issues must be rare . . . none show up on ebay search.
