What do you think were the best and worst of the Earthforce stories (UK issues 255 to 289)?
Best = Cry Wolf/Wolf in the Fold/Where Wolf 3-parter.
Worst=...damn, so many mediocre stories to choose from... Internal Affairs never set my world on fire as a kid and I still can't really take to it. Simply because I don't like the story mechanic, it's tired and doesn't work in 5 pages. Megs and Shockers fight, then join forces to run away from the Autobots. Meh. The fact that Starscream and Soundwave set the whole thing up doesn't even manage to make it an interesting story to me.

Y'know, I always thought they were slightly anti-climactic. It had been a long wait, so long I'd thought Furman was never going to get round to concluding the Carnivac saga. I did think the first part with Needlenose's death was good value, and the last part with a couple more shock exits (nice art in both too). But I never thought the middle part really worked, with all the toing and froing.KingMob wrote:Best = Cry Wolf/Wolf in the Fold/Where Wolf 3-parter.
Bit of a shame the characters didn't stay dead and came back in Matrix Quest. Spoilt it a bit for me.
Carnivac was damn cool tho.

Correct me, but wasn't Earthforce a different continuity? I mean, you can chalk up the stories to the US/UK 'normal' timeline up to Race with the DEvil and the first arc of the Wolf saga, but it gets really weird after that with Megs and Shockers appearing out of nowhere. Not to mention the revival of the 'classic heroes' in Perchance to Dream who were revived by Grimlock in "the Void".
I liked most of the B/W stories. Especially how Simon decided that Grimbo was too 'badass' and made fun of him on several occasions (Snow Fun, Making Tracks, The 100000 (or how many?) year long itch).
The Carnivac story arc was undoubtly the best, but I liked the White Fire too, even though the finale lacked impact. One shots, well, "Shut Up!" is great and so is "Prime's Rib"
There were many mediocre or bad ones... Aspects of evil, for example. It didn't make much sense, especially the Galvatron one. I mean, corrupting the matrix would kill all transformers - which means Galvy too, so what's his point? I liked the Shockwave one though, especially the look UM gaves Rod when he wonders why the radar didn't show the Con attack...

4 million, IIRC. I love this one and 'Snow Fun', Grmilock's hilarious in the former.BB Shockwave wrote:Snow Fun, Making Tracks, The 100000 (or how many?) year long itch
There were others I liked, especially Carnivac's revenge and those where Autobots go save Starscream.
Shame it ended kinda in the middle of the storyline.
It wasn't corruption of the Matrix per se, as in the US/UK timeline that had already been done after Prime's body had been discovered by various dying aliens, it was the Hate that Galvy was making dominate Roddy's actions, something that would probably make the other Autobots retch over, and the Decepticons just feel a little giddy, perhaps. After all, when Thunderwing possessed the Matrix, there wasn't much retching going on, just a lot of battering and bruising.BB Shockwave wrote:Aspects of evil, for example. I myself allways liked to think that the Earthforce stories were set after G2 and before the movie.
All you need it so Imagine that after G2 #12 there was a battle between the Autobots/Decepticons and the Cybertrons and that in the end Optimus and Megatron gets their old bodies back and the "Classic" Autobots from the EarthForce stories die. then comes PoD and the rest of the stories.
It even makes sens if you consider that snarl wasnt in the movie, it was because his mind was transfered to a real Dino in the Earthforce stories.

Not really, you can assum that 219-222 happens after Time Wars but the rest of the story after G2. Again all you need is to belive that bludgun didnt die at the hands of megatron in G2 and that will explain his whereabouts in the Earthforce stories.spiderfrommars wrote:But the Carnivac stuff has to happen shortly after Time Wars, and partly ties into Earthforce. So post G2 doesn't really work.
Also, think why unicron belives that the matrix is the only thing that can stop him? it because he was defeted by it at TFus#75. We all know now that Unicron is not easly killed, and that he comes back again and again in the future. So doring the great battle between the Autobot/Decepticons and the Cybertrons he "Mind Wipe" all the TF memories so they couldnt remember him while he rebuilds his body.
It's just my way of looking at it.

You'd also have to explain why Bludgeon, after being a Decepticon leader and almost having won the war, serves under some guy who looks like a pig, why Slag, Ramjet, Dirge, Slingshot, Highbrow and Cloudburst are alive, why Earthforce happens in 1990 and some other things.
I suppose it's 'explain-able', but it's quite a stretch.
Actually, attempts to mend Marvel continuity can sometimes end up being useful. Cliffy wrote very cool fanfic while trying to squeeze Earthforce after 'End Of The Road'.

Yeah, I read it. Starts out good, but it gets relly complicated around the Bludgeon-Sixshot battle and I don't really see how he can set things straight after this.
What I would really want to see is 'what if' Simon could have wrote Marvel G1 for another 20 or so issues. I guess many Tfs would come back as Action Masters (Megs, Shockers, Screamer all were blown up in a ship full of Nucleon). And it would have been a nice nod to the UK fans to revive Omega Supreme as Omega Spreem...

By 'set things straight' do you mean keep it in continuity? Simply, he doesn't. Generation 2 events are totally changed and incorporated into the storyline. But good story anyway.BB Shockwave wrote:Yeah, I read it.
