Hmm..... I think I liked this issue. The Megs/Scorpy fight was well done, though the art could have been better. At least Milne will be back next issue. The only problem I have with the Megs/Scorpy fight was the use of the 'other' Megatron. It would make less sense without the toy, even though the two Megatrons were mentioned last issue. and Matere's artwork didn't help.
A bit dissappointed that the Avalon/Alpha-Q plot didn't advance much, nor did Prime's whereabouts, but if the last panel is any indication, the Autobot leader should retake the spotlight next issue
8/10 for now.

Really liked it.
Nice to see they didn't fall into the old "you may still be useful, so I will keep you around" trap. Scorpy's had his moment in the spotlight, now it's Meggy's turn.
Could complain about the lack of progression on the other storylines, but after however many issues with all the characters fighting for limited pages and phenomenally decompressed arcs, it made a refreshing change to get an entire issue almost entirely focussed on one event.
Goodness.

Re: Energon #30
This was great fun. Between this and Age of Wrath I think I'm starting to get excited about TF comics again... certainly a few months ago my love was on the wane.
The fight was good, the main failing was the art. I miss Milne's detailed less cartoony look. However, if it means we get the comics out on time, I'm cool with it.
Sorry, but I want these things spelt out for me. Thats what the art is for. In the ol' days you didn't have to own every single toy to understand what was going on... eg. if a 'con was a triplechanger it would show 'em triplechanging! Sheesh.
Can someone just explain the Megs toy for me so I know in future?
Another thing I didn't like was Hoist mentioning that he'd died once. If I hadn't have read Armada MTMTE I wouldn't have known what the hell he was on about.
I liked the Armada flashback at the beginning.
The Scorp/Megs fight reminded me of G2Megs/Bludgeon.
How powerful is Megs anyway? If he can deal with millions of clones surely he's approahing demi god status. Eh?
Where did Prime get the gun and ammo from?

So thats what happened? I really didn't have a clue. Being the naive fool I am, I thought the camera had changed positions and Megs just came out of the rubble to impale him.bobaprime85 wrote:The only problem I have with the Megs/Scorpy fight was the use of the 'other' Megatron.

Well, I'm not really following it myself and I own the toy...spiderfrommars wrote:Can someone just explain the Megs toy for me so I know in future?
You've got Megatron. He turns into a jet.
You've then got a little tank that (on the toy at least) doesn't transform - it's a mini version of his old Armada body.
In the comics, we seemingly have a little tank running about (as we saw) and also two big robot-mode jet Megatron things.
I may need to read his techspec/profile thinger. *
I actually quite liked that part. It gives the sense that there was more going on back in ye olde days than we were shown. I always hate the implication that the "on camera" stuff is the only storyline happening. I don't feel it was necessary to know that Hoist is an upgraded version of Smokescreen (well, that was my presumption from it - not read A-MTMTE) - works fairly well as just "well, this 'bot's obviously bitten the dust once before.Another thing I didn't like was Hoist mentioning that he'd died once. If I hadn't have read Armada MTMTE I wouldn't have known what the hell he was on about.
Armada flashback was great. Nice to see use of Wheeljack, Skywarp, Predacon, etc. Ties in with what I just said about "more going on."
Gunrunner? [/obscure G1 reference?]Where did Prime get the gun and ammo from?

"In robot mode, MEGATRON fights his enemies with a remote triple-change tank module"
Forget the "have to read elsewhere to know what Hoist is talking about" thing. I feel "having to read elsewhere to understand the major plot device" is a lot more Mad Brick in tone...

Best... isssue.. ever!
Alas, poor Scorpy. I started to like him. Megs burned him out... quite literally.
Also, there was no triple-changing module. Megs simply teleported out before the mountain fell on him... letting Scorpy think prior that he has no power to "fade" again. And how Scorpy thought the drone-tank was a Minicon.
I liked how Meg's explained his fighting style - he doesn't endangers himself needlessly in close combat because he's too valuable for the cause.
One thing worries me, they officially said Energon will end with 36. and Cybertron is compeltly new.

Well new in the sense that Energon was "new". Cybertron will be a continuation of the same overall storyline, just with new toys...BB Shockwave wrote: One thing worries me, they officially said Energon will end with 36. and Cybertron is compeltly new.
Anyways, issue 30 was great fun, tho it kinda reminded me too much of Armada Megs v. Galvatron.
The final page was fab tho...

I think this was waaay better then Armada 16. The dialogue between Scorpy and Megs was priceless.
Also see how Megs never confronts Scorpy at close range. Perhaps he's stronger then old Megs?

Or maybe it's just to underline the theme of the differences between the two.BB Shockwave wrote:Also see how Megs never confronts Scorpy at close range. Perhaps he's stronger then old Megs?
IE that Scorponok is willing to get his hands dirty, whilst Megs stands back.
And that's reflected in the way they act in this battle.
Sensible, no? Thematic consistency - not necessarily an indication of strength.

Surely, "TEN... YEARS!!!" inside Unicron's brain made him a bit more careful and cautious....
Also, I liked how Alpha Q is still over-confident, despite that Megs broke free and Optimus is waltzing around in Unicron with big ***guns. Poor bugger, he'll learn... Avalon is more clever and careful.
And what is the lesson we learned from Energon, kids? Never trust politicians...

Hmmm
I acctually also got the feeling that at a few panels Scorps had the upper claw , but I don't quite seem to be able put my finger at exactly where it was.
And Alpha Quintesson..does he really have any idea what he's playing around with?? We all know what Unicron is capable of when mortally wounded and written by Furman, and we all know how strong his will is compared to puny mortals, so I just can't shake the feeling that Unicron, altough his body is inert at places, is aware of everything, and is chaotically playing Megatron, Alpha Quintesson and everyone else for his own purposes...
We'll see who's the biggest player in all this soon, as the final arc is getting into motion next issue. Shame, it was just getting good! (Overall, I think it's been pretty good consistently.) But since Furman has said recently that he sees it as one continuous saga one realize that it is all good.
Especially if what I suspect will come true, that Cybertron doesn't begin years after Energon, but mere hours! As reality will get shifted and turned...
