DW promised that in the future they would explain why Magnus looked like a 'white Optimus' underneath his armor. Did they ever get around to it? Has this ever been explained? Does anyone have any interesting theories about Magnus' armor?

(I always wondered if it was like some kind of prototype pretender shell. But that's just me.)

They were going to release a 'special' dealing with Prime and Magnus' brotherhood, but DW went under before it was released. I assume that would have gone deeper into it, but as far as I understand Magnus was originally a white Prime and then an accident/injury meant he was forced to wear the larger armour over it.

I prefer the prototype Pretender idea. And I always hated the idea of Prime and Magnus as brothers.

Never took that literally. Considered it more brother-in-arms kind of thing. When you're close with someone, you consider them family. Well, I do anyway.

'Strue...I have no real brothers, but two people who I consider brothers. Not that I had much choice in the matter, they were my friends who spent far too much time round my house and therefore adopted my mom as their own (and vice versa). Now my mom has three sons, my sister has three older brothers and I get more birthday presents

Well I have two moms, both of which I share with one of my "brothers". My other "brother"'s mom died when he was young, but his dad is a transvestite with a female alter-ego, so I guess that's another one.

We're just like one big happy family. Sort of.

I'm not a great Magnus fan. He was always a bit too squeaky clean for me, 'cause even with Prime I got the impression that if it came down to the line he would bend the rules a bit to win the war. With Magnus he always came across as a bit more of a "jobsworth" Autobot - far too idealistic and not down 'n' dirty enough. It's living in Prime's shadow, I guess. If Magnus could have followed his own path - as we saw a bit in AoW - I think he would have made a much better Autobot.

Would've been cool if Prime nicked his exo-frame thingy.
And even if they WERE just 'brothers-in-armour' I'd be a bit concerned about how much the other guy looks like me if I were Prime.

Yeah, if I was Prime, I'd be PISSED that I didn't get some cool exo-frame thingy, or at least some zany DW Pat Lee drawn story where I had to borrow Ultra's exo-frame thingy to stop Shockwave from advancing the plot.

Magnus just yawns at the obviously inferior reverse-engineering.

And then gets laid out by Galvatron.

Who is then himself flattened by Powermaster Prime.

Who laughs at Magnus' obvious lack of detailed analysis of his new form.

Then he goes and gets turned into a Nebulan after killing Unicron.

Who's laughing now?

Just an idea of mine...

The Matrix flame glows while the Matrix exists, right? It's also canon (Ithink) that it can give life to TFs, although not as effective as the real Matrix and needs vorns to recharge.

But by all means, every Bot on Cybertron thought OP died.Perhaps, just perhaps they were trying to bring his spark back from the Matrix through the flame... little knowing he wasn't dead yet, and getting a whole new bot
instead.

That would explain why Magnus looks like him, and also why is he so unsure of himself in the Marvel UKbooks... everyone was awaiting OP,a leader and Magnus had to meet these expectations.

Matrix Flame Magnus (tm) is a good idea - he looks like Prime, but isn't. To have his own identity he spraypaints himself white, but it isn't enough. He requests Autobot engineers build him an exo-frame thingy, which explains why he was still getting ready for Operation: Volcano.

Very nice idea, BB.

Rather than get himself an exo-frame built just to amp himself for the sake, perhaps he was trying too hard ion an early combat mission - trying to act how the history tapes and crazy old buzzard Grandad Xaaron have told him Prime behaved - and took serious wounds, requiring being rebuilt somewhat.
You could then add Autobloke's notion that he makes special request to get a different look than Prime, as he both wants to carve his own way and avoid endangering others with false visuals. And they sort him out with a bruiser combat rig.
So instead of being a figurehead, leader guy, he gets relegated to being tough 'take-the-strain' combat guy. Which then ties into his 'but I'm just a soldier' scthick.
And yeah, acclimatising to being in a enhancement-suit - like Vader - and adjusting to his new role mentally would explain the 'getting ready' thing.

It'd be neat to see someone do a story starring Impactor and Magnus...

Not usually. And when folks that are true poets of writers try, they tend to either never finish them or never reveal the finished story, both the reason that they think they didn't do the concept justice. Or at least that's what I suspect most of the time. The ones that do go on and share said quality work end up as fanfic classics.
