Just wondering, but how the heck was Death's Head able to beat up on two of "Unicron's Spawns" when they're supposed to be much stronger than other beings? We're supposed to believe some random bounty hunter is that powerful and no other Gods or something tried to take him for themselves? Galvatron I can semi-believ, but DH pushed it sometimes, Furman's gotta show restraint and swallow his pride when it comes to his "pet" characters...

I did like Shockwave.
His Marvel persona was class.
I even liked (although it bared no relation to his Marvel persona) his cartoon appearances. Yes he was megatrons lap dog, but I always imagined him like a Knight of the realm The Purple Knight and we all knew he was nails even in the cartoon.
As for DW, they didn't quite get him.

The MArvel incarnation of Shockwave was my favourite Decepticon, no wait, favourite Transformer full stop. He was ace. By far the most unique and standout character of them all, and the most unique looking. The 'are all dead' cover was the best and most sinister cover of the whole marvel run.
Shockwave rules!
Shockwave rules!

Not to mention that he knows where Hoffa is buried...Stormwolf wrote: I wouldn't be suprised if DW said that it was Shockwave who shot JFK

Why 'Angel' was cancelled.....
Anyway, Shockwave was the great genius of the Decepticons, even though he was a bit of a hypocrite in terms of his adherance to logic. Of course, it was interesting to see his progression after Time Wars, and how he started his sentences with "Fact: Autobots are wussies" and so forth. It felt almost like he was overcompensating for his breakdown in Time Wars.

Well... whaddaya think why I use this nick?
He still remains as my favoruite Transformer, Carnivac and Prowl as close seconds.
Perhaps the most intersting thing with him is that he's pretty much as emotional as you or me, he just hides it very well. In that department he's just like Mr. Freeze from the Batman cartoon...
Shockers' best moment, that is forever burned into my memory is the way he saves the day in TIme Wars and he speaks with Prime. "Of course... anything else would be illogical!" You get the feeling that perhaps he's as much tired of the war as Prime is and would rather have they were working together - but he knows what logic dictates, and he does that, no matter the cost.
The little talk of his with Ravage was also a great moment for both characters. Also when he tells DH "You think I stayed in power so long by trusting anyone?"
Btw. a few answers to what you said on this topic...
- Shockwave propably did die aboard the crashing Ark, however, he died in a ship full of Nucleon... Simon himself said he would have brought him back had G2 lasted longer. More on this on the episode synopsis of the Marvel Cartoon - coming soon! (well or whenever I finally sit down and write it...)
- Ratbat pretty much controlled the flow of fuel to Earth, so in the beginning Shocky didn't have much choice of disobeying him. However, after Ratty failed soundly with his master plan (you know... Car wash...) I 'm sure he got some more power in the hierarchy. The more reason for Ratbat to get rid of him...
After he fell to Earth, some of his followers deserted him for Ratbat, nonetheless Soundwave remained loyal. (and everyone knows, Soundwave serves only those who are good for the overall Con cause. And as long as they are usefull). After 'Enemy Action', Shocky's poor performance made him lose the most of his troops. Only a few remained loyal when he relocated to the old Con base ('Salvage'). After he even failed with Megatron, the last of his troops left him and he wandered alone, slowly recruiting/repairing the likes of Ravage and the Battlechargers.

I still think it would've been better if they just left him alone after his fight wiht Fort Max, and just gotten someone else for the in-between appearances in Salvage and Time Wars, it makes more sense story-wise and shock-wise to him again in TF# 66 considering everyone's reactions to seeing him again.

Yeah, sorry bout that. I refer to the US comic by number, I just refer to the UK comics by the title of the story arc.
Furman did a few things to try and merge the US and UK comics that didn't quite work. Shockwave and Megatron's "shocking returns" was one, it made sense for the US comic chars to be surprised they were back, but not the UK ones yet there it was the same reactions.
Another magled plot point was mentioning Deathbringer as if his story was told in the US comic.
Then there was Grimlock's inconsistent characterization between Bob and Furman, but I blame that more on Hasbro forcing Bob to make Grimlock like the TV version.

...Aside from Blaster, who went entirely the other way under Furman's regime.
I thought Shockwave's re-appearance in the late US run was one of his finest moments - the fight with Scorponok is legendary, and proves why Shockers is one of the TFs you should never underestimate.

I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

Bob was the one who made most of them 'cool' in the first place, due respect bub. I told you the probable reason Bob made Grimlock into a madman was becuase of Hasbro, Bob originally wrote Grimlock the way Furman would eventually write him. It was Bob's characterizations that Furman simply expanded on.Impactor returns 2.0 wrote:but bob stopped and furman came in - he changed lots of characters from cartoon crappy into comic cool. its not like they were swapping back and forth each week or month.

yes but you suggested this
Grimlock changed from Bob to Furman.
And yes Bob designed each character but it was Furman who developed them properly.
Only Blaster was lame.
Incosistent requires this to change back and forth. Then there was Grimlock's inconsistent characterization between Bob and Furman

In Bob's US stories he had Grimlock be the cartoon idiot version, but when FUrman was writing the UK comics at the same time in conjunction with Bob's US stories he had him being the truer comic book version.
The when Furman came on he just made him the comic version all the way. Of course, there never was an explanation as to why Grimlock suddenly turned over a new leaf either times. For Bob and Furman it was "First I'm smart, next issue I'm a bombbastic caveman tyrant, and then I'm back to being smart" with nothing in-between.
