Art is amazing - but is it a Transformer?

You see, to me, if you showed me this, and asked 'what is it?' Id say some generic Gundam'esque robot.

Why?

Because a TF normally has parts in its robot form that define it as another object, that it might Disguise itself as. ie, robots in disguise.

On this 'robot' I can see tiny markins, numbers on the knuckles etc which is what exacttly, a part number? thats a slightly human trait is it not? It breaks the concept for myself.

great art, but these gundam suit TF miss the point entirely for me.

Looks kind of cool I will admit, but I'm always weary of these new guys that do comics, for small companies. Do they have the writing-shops? Looks like they've got a great art-team, but what about the story?

Smells a bit like Udon and Dreamwave, and those companies sadly didn't focus on where it should be at, the scripts.

I might check it out for a quickie tho, just to see what it's like.

Raiz art is a bit too busy still, and unlike Don he hasn't started using proper blacks yet. If you look at the pages you can see that they're doing it DW-style, digital outlines on faint pencils and then colour right on top.

Wonder if the story is really about alien robots taking over the world tho? Maybe they're actually terrestrial bots taking over the world. Sort of like Terminator I guess. Would explain all the version-numbers.

I don't think they transform, now do they?

you know all the steaks of light you can see - do they just stick some multi-gradient ramp over each section, set to colour burn or somthing?

Nah, not colour-burn alone. I'd say they're using a bit of a process similar to the simulated specular bloom you showed me once.

I know I would. Not many pro's that use colour-burn for much at all, to my knowledge. And then I think they do use a bit of selections with darker colour, here and there.

I must admit, I'm horrible at getting the metallic look myself. I usually use greater contrast on the metal parts, and then perhaps add a bit of extra little highlights in a place or two. But I've never gotten that real-deal complex look that metal has. With all those streaks and stuff in it.
